5 things to know from Fortnite’s season 5 patch notes

The rifts in Fortnite’s sky that have brought items from the game’s world into our own have spread, and now characters from different times in history or ready to do battle. Season five is here, and with it come a variety of changes that invite exploration and even more conspiracy theories about what exactly is going on in the game.

“Viking ships, desert outposts, and ancient statues have appeared across the island,” the Fortnite team wrote in the official patch notes for season five. “Hop in an All Terrain Kart (ATK) with your squad and uncover all-new mysteries and locations that await.”

“The All Terrain Kart has room for your entire squad,” the Fortnite team wrote in the game’s official patch notes. You’ll get a speed boost from drifting, and players can use the roof of the vehicle as a bounce pad. Players will have to time their jumps to get over bigger obstacles, however.

“Work together as rear passengers to leap over obstacles with the All Terrain Kart (ATK). Lean back and release at the same time for a higher jump,” the team’s description states. “Lean back by holding S on keyboards or holding back on the thumbstick for controllers.”

Here are Fortnite Season 5’s teases so far

Fortnite Season 5 is almost here, but we still don’t really know much about it. Sure, we have a pretty good idea that the theme of the season is going to be time travel, but we know a whole lot less than we did last season when we thought the theme would be superheroes.

While time travel, or different historical eras, has been teased in a few different places, the best evidence we have to go on is the tease we’ve been receiving from Epic in various places. Whether they are coming from inside the game, or just tweets about the game, Epic has given us a few good hints as to what we might see when we log in tomorrow at the start of Season 5.

A new RoboCop is in the works with Neill Blomkamp

A new RoboCop movies is in development at MGM Studios, with District 9 and Chappie director Neill Blomkamp at the helm, according to a report from Deadline. The sequel, RoboCop Returns, will reportedly be based on a story from the creators and original writers of RoboCop, Edward Neumeier and Michael Miner.

According to Deadline, Neumeier and Miner wrote a draft for a sequel to RoboCop that was never put into production, thanks to the 1988 Writers Guild of America strike. (Frank Miller was responsible for penning 1990’s RoboCop 2.) Writer Justin Rhodes, who is also writing the new Terminator movie, is reportedly overhauling Neumeier and Miner’s RoboCop sequel script.

The best and worst changes from Fortnite Season 4

Fortnite’s fourth season is drawing to a close and for the most part it seems to have been a resounding success.

Just like previous seasons, developer Epic Games kept the Fortnite changes coming throughout the season. And while some temporary additions to the game, like jetpacks, are probably better left in the vault forever, things like hop rocks and the original Dusty Divot are likely to be remembered fondly by most players.

The Mortal Kombat movie reboot sounds a little different

Warner Bros.’ New Line studio has been trying to get a new Mortal Kombat movie off the ground for years now in the form of a reboot of the franchise. The latest effort has a director and a screenwriter attached, and based on some early details about the film, it will take some intriguing departures from the established Mortal Kombat story.

Pop culture site That Hashtag Show reported earlier this week that the Mortal Kombat reboot will feature an original character in the lead role: Cole Turner. He’s described as a “struggling and widowed boxer who cares more about his young daughter than anything” and said to be “incredibly determined” in the face of adversity.

Monster Hunter getting 3D animated special in 2019

Capcom is continuing to ride the wave of Monster Hunter’s success with a computer-animated special, the company announced today. Set to premiere in 2019, the developer is working with Western production company Pure Imagination Studios on this latest iteration of the franchise.

Neither studio is offering many specifics on the nature of this 3D-animated project, but there is both a name and a vague premise. Monster Hunter: Legends of the Guild will tell the story of a male warrior who leaves his unassuming hometown to take down a dangerous Elder Dragon.

Emperor Palpatine remains missing from Star Wars Battlefront 2

Emperor Palpatine, one of several playable heroes and villains in Star Wars Battlefront 2, was taken out of the game five days ago by its developers at EA DICE. The studio acknowledged his departure in a post about the latest patch to the game, but didn’t say exactly why it removed the sinister Imperial overlord.

Fans think it may have to do with Palpatine’s Force lightning power. The Emperor already has tremendous range thanks to his leaping ability, and combined with a “chain lightning” attack that zaps multiple foes, anyone getting their hands on him in the multiplayer shooter was a Force (sorry) to be reckoned with. His chain lightning was at one point capable of targeting opponents through walls, before DICE tweaked that issue earlier this year.

Pokémon Go leak shows off new Pokémon, including one we’ve all been waiting for

Several elusive Pokémon have been found within Pokémon Go’s code, with all of them shown off last night as part of a livestream reveal. These sprites include the obvious, like legendaries that Niantic has promised are on the way, as well as some especially well-hidden ones.

The list of Pokémon discovered by Chrales, whose gained renown both on Reddit’s The Silph Road and the game’s data-mining communities, doesn’t run long, but his stream showed off each model of the uncovered Pokémon, from original versions to shiny ones.
