Epic and YouTube’s Keemstar are butting heads over weekly Fortnite competitions

Friday Fortnite has been the premier weekly Fortnite tournament online over the last six weeks. Regularly drawing almost 600,000 viewers, the tournament, run by YouTuber Keemstar and UMG, is a wildly popular staple among fans and players. This week for the first time since its launch, however, Friday Fortnite won’t be happening, because Epic has a tournament of its own.

Epic Games — the developers of Fortnite — have started a weekly competitive series for the game known as Summer Skirmish. The competition’s first week pit 100 well known players against each other in custom games, and took place on Saturday meaning it wouldn’t conflict with Friday Fortnite. That event didn’t quite go as Epic had hoped. Now it seems the publisher is switching things up in week two, and that means the addition of Friday nights to the schedule.

Media Molecule’s Dreams makes me wonder if there’s anything it won’t let you create

Media Molecule’s Dreams makes me wonder if there’s anything it won’t let you create

Dreams is similar to Media Molecule’s LittleBigPlanet series, which the British studio created in the PlayStation 3 days, in that it’s as much about creating as it is playing. Along with a single-player campaign of stages authored by Media Molecule, Dreams offers a mind-bogglingly expansive suite of level creation tools for budding game designers out there. But where the LittleBigPlanet games were limited to a side-scrolling 2.5D perspective, Dreams on PlayStation 4 lets you build in full 3D, which vastly increases both the possibilities and the complexity of the game.

The game creation engine in Dreams is so robust, in fact, that even the pros use it. If you’re wondering why all the screenshots bear a “Made In Dreams” watermark, the answer is that Media Molecule built all of the story mode levels using the game’s built-in creation mode.

Fortnite is coming up on its one-year anniversary, and developer Epic Games has a few surprises in mind to celebrate.

Complete all three of these and you’ll unlock a birthday cake back bling.

Stardew Valley multiplayer leaves PC beta in August

The full release of Stardew Valley’s multiplayer update will launch Aug. 1, publisher Chucklefish announced. Previously available only as a public Steam beta, the mode will launch across multiple PC storefronts, including Humble and GOG.

It sounds like the multiplayer mode will remain mostly the same when it’s out of beta. Among its features are the ability to recruit up to three friends as either farmhands, who work for the host player, or fellow farmers, who get their own cabin on the host’s farmland. Either way, Stardew Valley’s co-op encourages people to collaborate, not compete to see who’s the best and richest farmer.

Dragon Ball FighterZ is the most popular game at Evo 2018

Dragon Ball FighterZ is officially the most popular game at this year’s Evo fighting game tournament, according to Evolution Championship Series co-founder Joey Cuellar. Arc System Works and Bandai Namco’s anime fighting game has 2,530 registered entrants, Cuellar said on Twitter.

That’s more than Street Fighter 5: Arcade Edition, which has 2,421 registered entrants, according to Cuellar. Typically, Capcom’s Street Fighter games draw the highest number of players at Evo, but Arc System Works’ popular, well-received fighter outpaced it this year.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe update adds Link from Breath of the Wild

Nintendo released an update for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe for Nintendo Switch today that adds a new playable character: Link, wearing the Champion’s Tunic, from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

In addition to Link, the version 1.6.0 patch for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe also adds the Master Cycle Zero, the motorcycle that was added to Breath of the Wild in 2017 as part of that game’s Champions’ Ballad downloadable content. Rounding out the new content are a set of new tires, called Ancient Tires, and a new glider, based on Breath of the Wild’s paraglider.

Pokémon Go throws Registeel into newest Raid Battles

Pokémon Go’s new Raid Battles feature the steel-type Registeel, the second of the legendary “Regi” Pokémon trio to enter the game. Registeel is available now until mid-August, ample time for hardcore trainers to grab one their complete collections.

Otherwise, we can’t blame you if this new Pokémon leaves you twiddling your thumbs until the next update launches. When the third-gen legendary Registeel’s cousin Regice launched in mid-June, players were unenthused by the Pokémon’s reveal. It’s not a great competitor in the metagame, and it’s not the most exciting Pokémon to carry around in your collection either. Registeel is much the same way; it’s a high-defense, low-speed monster that doesn’t have much else to offer.

Blood of the Dead will send Black Ops 4 players back to Alcatraz, where they’ll play as Edward Richtofen, “Tank” Dempsey, Takeo Masaki and Nikolai Belinski as they explore a secret laboratory beneath the island prison.

First Dragon Ball Super: Broly trailer shows off Legendary Super Saiyan power

Dragon Ball Super: Broly is coming to theaters this December in Japan, with the English dub showing up in the United States in January 2019. At San Diego Comic Con, Funimation revealed the very first trailer for the new film, which officially makes fan-favorite character Broly a canonical character.

In the English dub trailer above, Broly can be seeing beating the life out of Goku, Vegeta, and even Frieza — a matchup that many fans never expected to see. The panel also stated that series creator Akira Toriyama had more of a hand in making Broly than any other Dragon Ball Super film before.
