WarioWare Gold makes the best use of your amiibo collection

WarioWare Gold is coming to Nintendo 3DS on Aug. 3, marking the first time the beloved troublemaker’s minigames have made it onto the handheld. While the game boasts over 300 microgames and a story mode, one of the game’s most interesting features will breathe new life into your amiibo collection.

Throughout your time with the game, you’ll earn coins that you can spend to randomly unlock a series of interactive toys, minigames, pieces of Nintendo history and more. One of those “toys” is a mode called “Wario’s amiibo Sketch” and it’s an absolutely wonderful and silly use for amiibo.

The best parts of the new No Man’s Sky outweigh the bad ones

Polygon’s Tara Long put more than 250 hours into No Man’s Sky before the Next update launched this Tuesday. Here, she breaks down what it is in the new game that really caught her attention. And it’s much more than just the new third-person perspective or multiplayer features.

Some might differ on the changes — refining resources, for example, adds another layer to crafting and resource management in the gameplay that some might find more time consuming than worthwhile. The new guide feature, for example, catalogs all of the items you can acquire in No Man’s Sky and is a huge assist for a game with such a big crafting component.

No Man’s Sky save glitch is already fixed, but learn how to protect yourself today

Some No Man’s Sky players are having issues with their saved games after the latest update, but it looks like the problem has already been fixed. In the short term, however, be careful if you run into this bug.

“A whole bunch of people, including myself, have run into a bug in Next that prevents you from loading an existing save file. Instead of putting you back into the game at the point you saved, the game simply restarts you on a new planet with the ‘Initializing’ white screen,” a player wrote on Reddit.

Leaked video gives a first glimpse of FIFA 19 gameplay

A first look at the gameplay (and user interface) of FIFA 19 has slipped out, in advance of Gamescom 2018 where more is expected to be seen of EA Sports’ soccer franchise.

The 10-minute video surfaced yesterday on the FIFA subreddit; it shows a Manchester United vs. Manchester City match with UEFA Europa League presentation. Electronic Arts picked up the UEFA tournament licenses this year after league’s exclusive deal with Konami and Pro Evolution Soccer was not renewed.

Xbox Games With Gold includes For Honor, Forza Horizon 2 in August

August is a good month to be an Xbox Live Gold subscriber, as Microsoft announced a strong game lineup for Xbox Games With Gold next month, lead by Forza Horizon 2 and For Honor on Xbox One.

Xbox One owners will be able to download Forza Horizon 2 — the standard, 10th Anniversary Edition of the driving game — from Aug. 1 to Aug. 31 as part of their Xbox Live Gold membership. Starting on Aug. 16, they’ll also get access to For Honor (again, the Standard Edition of Ubisoft’s historical fighting game), which will be available through Sept. 15.

No Man’s Sky update has unleashed new horrors in our galaxy

The team at Hello Games has done the impossible, effectively raising No Man’s Sky from the dead. The spacefaring game now has much more depth in almost every regard, and appears just as good at generating stories as it is at generating planets. Up until last night, there was one addition to the game that had so far eluded public knowledge. With everyone hunting feverishly across billions of worlds, those who found it managed to keep the secret for a few days. That is, until one small group of players had the ultimate first encounter.

As Carl Sagan would say, they should have sent a poet. Instead, they sent a narrative designer.

Nintendo Switch gets the Wii Sports-style game we’ve been missing this week

Nintendo Switch is lucky to get at least a few new, interesting games each week, and this week illustrates that those games also run the real gamut of genres. While an obvious callout goes to Go Vacation, the closest thing Switch has to a Wii Sports collection, there’s also some super family-inappropriate games out alongside it.

Go Vacation was a minor hit when it launched on the Wii way back in 2011. Although the Wii Sports games certainly held the crown for the console’s most popular competitive mini-game collections, the response to Go Vacation’s unexpected Switch port suggests it also developed a big fanbase.

Ni no Kuni 2: Revenant Kingdom DLC will be free to all in August

The first wave of downloadable content for Ni no Kuni 2: Revenant Kingdom will launch on Aug. 9, Bandai Namco announced. It won’t be exclusive just to owners of the season pass, however — the initial DLC, the Adventure Pack, will be given away to all Ni No Kuni 2 players.

The Adventure Pack will introduce additional quests, bosses and costumes. While players should be able to access some of the new additions before completing the game, the quests will only go live after finishing up the main story mode.

Discord strikes popular server over NSFW room, leaves community-at-large concerned

Discord’s somewhat recent policy regarding not safe for work (NSFW) content, which often includes pornographic images or cartoons, has some gaming communities concerned about future sudden changes.

Recent controversy sprung up after one popular, partnered Discord server dedicated to Final Fantasy 15 was issued a warning for an NSFW channel and lost its partner status as a result. Server members were reportedly sharing lolicon, a specific type of cartoon subgenre that depicts young girls participating in erotic acts or lewd behavior, and received a warning from Discord administrators. The email, which was uploaded to Reddit by user Eanae, instructed the Final Fantasy 15 server admins to remove the channel, as it violated the company’s terms of service for sharing digitally altered pornography that depicts minors. The server would be deleted otherwise.
