WarioWare Gold’s re-dubbing feature lets you make silly, cinematic masterpieces

WarioWare Gold is packed with over 300 minigames — or rather, microgames — and dozens of extra features. From turning your amiibo into art to replaying everything with additional challenges, there’s a lot of fun to be had in the game.

One of the strangest features lets you dub over all of the game’s cinematics with your own voice. Throughout the game’s story mode, where you can hear a fully voiced Wario, our lovable villain enlists his former cohorts to help him construct new microgames. When players start a stage for the first time, they are treated to a story cinematic featuring WarioWare favorites like 9-Volt, Mona and Dr. Crygor. Each of their scenarios is just as weird as you’d expect — and being able to provide your own voice-over for these videos is, too.

Super Smash Bros. Direct August 2018: What to expect

Just ahead of Evo 2018’s Super Smash Bros. Melee grand finals, Nintendo announced an upcoming live presentation focused on the franchise’s next entry. A Nintendo Direct on Aug. 8 will have new information about Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, with director Masahiro Sakurai on deck to share it with fans.

It’s hard to predict what this Direct could entail, especially since a runtime hasn’t been revealed and the last Smash Bros. livestream spent nearly 30 minutes detailing the game. But there are some key features we have yet to hear about, and it seems like a good time for Nintendo to start discussing them.

Where Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker came from

Where Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker came from

In July, Nintendo re-released its 2014 puzzle adventure game Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker for Nintendo Switch and 3DS. Treasure Tracker originally spawned from a series of bonus levels in Super Mario 3D World, a 2013 Wii U game that featured six courses known as The Adventures of Captain Toad.

But the original idea for Captain Toad’s treasure-hunting escapades dates back further, when the title was originally pitched as a game starring Link from The Legend of Zelda. Nintendo developers explored the idea of small, diorama-style levels featuring a character that was incapable of jumping. Designers originally envisioned Link as the main character, as he’s known more for his dungeon exploring skills than his jumping abilities.

The Animal Crossing letter system, explained

In the world of Animal Crossing, you can indulge in all sorts of delightful activities: living in a village populated entirely by adorable, anthropomorphic animals, crafting cute items out of resources you scavenge, and maintaining friendships with the aforementioned adorable, anthropomorphic animals.

One of the ways to build friendships with the villagers is to send them lovingly-crafted letters. After obtaining stationery from the store, you have the option to compose a message and send it off at the post office to whichever villager you want. And if your letter is good enough, you might just get one in return — with a special present attached.

The World Ends With You comes to Switch in October

The World Ends With You is now set to be one of Nintendo Switch’s marquee fall titles. Nintendo announced that the Final Remix version of the game, revealed earlier this year, will launch on Oct. 12.

Alongside the release date comes one heckuva nice trailer, serving as a reminder that this remains one of the most stylish Square Enix games ever. The World Ends With You’s version of hip Shibuya incorporates bold colors, great fashion and stylized character designs that remain unlike any Square Enix game since. Watch it above for your dose of early-morning jamming.

5 things to know from Fortnite’s patch v5.20

Fortnite’s newest patch is here and it’s ... a little odd. In terms of additions to the game, patch v5.20 is easily the smallest released so far this season. On the other hand, thanks to its bug fixes, it technically has quite a few changes in it.

In other words, patch v5.20 is going to feel like playing a better version of the same game, rather than switching things up too much. While that may not make everyone happy, it at least means a more stable game and one with a little less unintended frustration.
