Donkey Kong villain King K. Rool is in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. will introduce another Donkey Kong character to the game. King K. Rool, a long-time enemy of D.K. and his simian dudes, enters the fray for the first time.

During today’s Super Smash Bros.-centric Nintendo Direct, the company announced two new characters, including Simon Belmont and his echo fighter, Richter, before ending the presentation with King K. Rool. Donkey Kong fans have wanted another rep from the franchise for some time — and K. Rool in particular. He first appeared in Donkey Kong Country for the Super Nintendo, a series where he continued to be the main villain.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate lets you listen to the soundtrack whenever you want

Nintendo showed off a new feature in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate as part of today’s Direct presentation about the game. The game will allow you to listen to its hefty soundtrack while you’re in handheld mode, just by plugging in your headphones.

Director Masahiro Sakurai hosted the presentation, the first to heavily focus on the game since E3 2018. He introduced footage of the feature, which basically turns your Nintendo Switch into an iPod (remember those? Good times). You can turn the console’s screen off and tuck it into a bag, listening to Smash Bros. Ultimate’s 900-plus songs on the go.

PUBG is getting fixed: 6 things to know

PUBG Corp. is launching an extended effort to “fix PUBG,” a phrase the developers say they’ve heard from fans for some time. There is now an official plan to make the game feel more like a finished, polished product on both the PC and Xbox One, which is great news for players who have long complained about its often inconsistent feel.

“Our dev team is gearing up for battle,” PUBG Corp. stated on the official page. “Our mission: Destroy bugs, deliver long-needed quality-of-life features, and take PUBG to the next level by shipping fundamental performance improvements. Throughout this campaign we’ll share specifics about what we’re working on and the expected time it’ll take to address the issues.”

Castlevania’s Simon Belmont and Richter Belmont join Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

Simon Belmont is entering the Smash Bros. ring, Nintendo revealed during a livestreamed presentation about the series’ upcoming Nintendo Switch entry. The Castlevania hero is not only one of the first newcomers to be revealed for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, but also its first exclusive third-party character.

The Nintendo Direct opened with a clip showing off Luigi with his ghost-hunting vacuum in a haunted mansion (of course). But Luigi isn’t the most equipped fighter of ghosts, so Simon comes in at the last moment to help him out. The brawny fighter uses coffins, whips chains and throws his fists to take care of his enemies. He’s also got his own stage, the pitch-black Dracula’s Castle — a classic battleground for this Castlevania hero.

Nintendo first teased Super Smash Bros. Ultimate during a memorable Nintendo Direct back in March of this year, but it wasn’t until E3 that we were given more information about the game. That means it’s just about time for some more news before its Dec. 7 launch on Nintendo Switch.

Nintendo will broadcast a special live presentation dedicated to the game on Wednesday, Aug. 8, at 7 a.m. PT/10 a.m. ET. The show will focus on Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and will feature new information on the game from director Masahiro Sakurai. You can watch the presentation at the top of this post.

Overcooked 2 is strengthening my roommate relationship

The beauty of Overcooked 2’s level design is its ability to reveal the key to success when there are only 30 seconds left on the clock.

Overcooked 2, now available on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One, thrives in the stress of delegation. Each level gives you a few minutes to cook and deliver increasingly difficult-to-make meals to hungry patrons. With kitchens continually shifting and players constantly multitasking, the game is meant to overload chefs and leave you screaming at your partners to take the pasta off the boiler, take the pasta off the boiler, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD TAKE THE PASTA OFF BEFORE IT SOMEHOW MANAGES TO LIGHT ON FIRE.

Bungie reveals Destiny 2: Forsaken’s new weapon customization system

Bungie finally shed some light on the revamped weapon customization system for Destiny 2 in a livestream Tuesday. While no new weapon systems are coming in Destiny 2: Forsaken, the studio is seriously overhauling the Masterwork and mod setups from the base game.

All weapons will now have Masterwork levels, up to tier 10. Each time the level is raised, the weapon’s Masterwork stat will go up by a single tier. The first few levels are relatively cheap to increase, only taking a handful of Glimmer. However, to reach tier 10, players will need to invest Legendary Shards and Masterwork Cores into their weapons.
