Mojang announces Minecraft: Dungeons

At Minecon today, Mojang announced a new role-playing game set in the Minecraft universe. It’s called Minecraft: Dungeons.

Due out next year on Windows PC (no word yet on other platforms), the game is being developed at Mojang’s home base in Sweden. Visually, the world is an enhanced version of Minecraft’s familiar landscape of blocks.

Awesome Games Done Quick 2019 reveals list of speedrun games

Organizers for Awesome Games Done Quick 2019 have released the list of games and speedrunners for the 10th edition of the charity marathon, set for early January.

The list is not a schedule, it’s simply the games accepted by the committee, the categories under which they will run, and who is competing. Bonus events are specified (these are usually unscheduled exhibitions played under certain conditions if donation goals are met).

World of Warcraft revisits an old character, and fans are (still) mad

World of Warcraft is all about a world of generational warfare, full of fantasy races led by bigger than life heroes. Some of those characters, like Kael’thas Sunstrider, are set up to have an excellent story, and then end up becoming raid bosses — and a bit of a joke in the World of Warcraft community.

With patch 8.1 for Battle for Azeroth, we’re getting a glimpse of Kael’thas in the past, and that cameo re-opens some old wounds for lore fans.

Destiny 2: Forsaken’s new Shattered Throne dungeon will only be available every three weeks

Destiny 2: Forsaken had one of its best surprises yet this week with the introduction of the Shattered Throne dungeon. A strange amalgamation between a raid and a strike, the Shattered Throne is filled with puzzles and difficult boss fights. It also packs appropriate rewards, offering players three powerful pieces of loot and the quest for the Wish-Ender exotic bow. But in Thursday’s This Week at Bungie, the studio announced that the dungeon is going away — for a few weeks, at least.

In the blog post, Bungie said that the Shattered Throne will only be available every third week — as the curse upon the Dreaming City reaches its max. This may be a problem for some players who hope to get the dungeon done before the end of the week, as the recommended power for the final encounter is 590 — only 10 below Forsaken’s current max of 600.

Bungie to tweak Destiny 2: Forsaken’s economy, reduce duplicate exotic drops

Destiny 2: Forsaken has been out a little over a month now, and while players have few things to complain about, the annoying aspects of this expansion are fairly prominent. Many players — including our own reviewer — have found frustrations with some of the randomness that comes with exotic hunting. In the most recent This Week at Bungie, the studio clarified how it’ll be changing this issue, as well as some others.

In the blog post, Bungie commented on some of the original goals it had in mind when making exotics more difficult to get — mainly, making them feel rare again. But the developers admitted that they failed to make exotic drops cool because players tend to get so many duplicates. To fix this, Bungie said it intends to increase players’ chances of receiving an exotic they don’t have yet.
