Super Mario Party’s online minigame mode is outrageously limited

There’s online multiplayer in Super Mario Party, a franchise first. But we wouldn’t blame you for skipping over the mode entirely. Instead of having a wide array of the game’s entertaining minigames available, Super Mario Party’s online mode has less than a dozen total — and on a rotating basis.

The Online Mariothon mode is a free-for-all competition for players worldwide, where players must focus on racking up the most points to place on the leaderboards. Unlike most marathons, this one is more of a sprint; groups of four only get to play five minigames together. These are culled from a list of just 10 different games.

Bungie will nerf Sleeper Simulant in Destiny 2’s Gambit mode

After weeks of frustration in the new Gambit mode for Destiny 2: Forsaken, Bungie has revealed how it plans to nerf one of the game’s most powerful weapons, the Sleeper Simulant exotic linear fusion rifle. In this week’s blog post, the team revealed how and when Sleeper will become less powerful, as well as how frequently the Malfeasance boss will spawn in an upcoming update — another source of player frustration.

In an upcoming update — tentatively scheduled to release on Oct. 30 — Bungie will change the ammo values for some heavy weapons specifically for Gambit. When picking up an ammo crate in Gambit, the Sleeper Simulant will now only receive two shots instead of four. Swords in Gambit will also get 12 ammo per brick in the update, instead of only six.

How to watch week 3 of the Fortnite Fall Skirmish

Fortnite’s latest competition, the Fall Skirmish, is well underway as the various competitors prepare for week three of the event.

This week’s competition will once again focus on a duo game mode, leaving players to pair up with partners from their in-event teams. This sometimes leads to unexpected pairings of players, since players weren’t allowed to select their own teams but can select their own partners. Thanks to these rules, players who play competitively for competing teams might team up, like a FaZe player grouped up with a Team Liquid or Cloud9 player.

New Dragon Ball Super: Broly trailer retcons the origins of Goku, Vegeta and Broly

Yesterday at New York Comic Con, a new trailer dropped for Dragon Ball Super: Broly, the series’ latest feature-length film, coming to Japanese theaters later this year. While previous trailers have shown off the battles yet to come between the three warrior Saiyans — Goku, Vegeta and Broly — this new one delves into the origins of their entire race, as well as the Saiyan’s ultimate destruction.

However, the trailer suggests that Broly will be retconning the Saiyan backgrounds as originally depicted in Dragon Ball Z and beyond. For instance, we see both baby Vegeta and baby Goku, both of whom are sleeping in mysterious test tubes at the same time. We later see a slightly older Vegeta, who’s around the same age as young Goku in Dragon Ball. Subtitles also directly state that all three Saiyans were born around the same time.

Destiny 2’s Festival of the Lost event starts Oct. 16

After taking a year off, Destiny’s Festival of the Lost event is finally coming to Destiny 2. The festival is intended to celebrate all things spooky, and is an in-universe stand-in for Halloween. Past years have offered players masks and quests to trick-or-treat around the Tower. However, Bungie teased in this week’s blog post that the Festival of the Lost will ask players to solve a murder this year.

While we don’t have a lot of details yet, we know that the Festival of the Lost will include some kind of costume party and murder mystery. In a screenshot that we grabbed from Bungie’s most recent ViDoc, you can see a Warlock player kneeling near a glowing bust. While we aren’t entirely sure, it looks like this could depict Master Ives, the Reef’s cryptarch from Destiny. Could he be the victim in the murder Bungie alluded to?

Nintendo patented a playable Game Boy phone case

Back in March 2017, Nintendo filed a patent that hinted at the Game Boy receiving the NES and SNES Classic Edition treatment. The United States Patent and Trademark Office has finally published the application for what looks exactly like a Game Boy phone case — but with fully operational buttons.

Nintendo’s patent filing “describes a cover that is removably attachable to electronic equipment having a touch screen.” In layman’s terms, it’s a phone case. Most interesting is that this Game Boy-esque design doesn’t just wrap around a smartphone to protect it from inevitable drops. Nintendo’s patent suggests a design that covers the front of a phone.

Red Dead Redemption 2’s PS4-exclusive content revealed

With exactly three weeks to go until Red Dead Redemption 2’s release, Sony has revealed the timed-exclusive content that will be available in the game for PlayStation 4 customers — and while it’s hard to tell from the descriptions, most of it seems like small potatoes.

When Rockstar Games unveiled Red Dead Redemption 2 all the way back in October 2016, the publisher and Sony announced a marketing partnership through which PS4 players would receive “first access to earn select online content” in the game. Neither company has provided details on the exclusives until now, although Sony announced another piece of the co-marketing deal in September: a Red Dead Redemption 2 PS4 Pro bundle.

Kingdom Hearts: The Story So Far collects the entire saga on PS4

One of the most lukewarm takes in gaming is that the story of Kingdom Hearts is impossible to follow. Spread across 12 unique titles thus far — Kingdom Hearts 3 will be the 13th entry — the timeline is notoriously complex, sure. But Square Enix is doing its best to help out anyone who’s fallen off the Kingdom Hearts train since the first game launched in 2002, releasing the most complete compilation yet for the series this fall.

Out Oct. 30, Kingdom Hearts: The Story So Far for PlayStation 4 will include every relevant piece of story content in a single set. The package collects both Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 + 2.5 Remix and Kingdom Hearts 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue, so that fans will no longer need to make two separate purchases to get the entire series under one roof.
