Starlink: Battle for Atlas boxes are showing up empty for Best Buy customers

Ubisoft’s toys-to-life space shooter Starlink: Battle for Atlas launched earlier this week, but some excited buyers are finding themselves totally unable to play it. They’re not encountering any in-game glitches — instead, Best Buy has been reportedly shipping customers empty packages without the game inside.

Across Reddit, Twitter and Best Buy’s online listing for Starlink itself, Nintendo Switch owners say that the game case and cartridge has been left out of the box. This seems to primarily affect the starter pack, which comes with toys of Star Fox’s Fox McCloud and his Arwing, as well as the hardware to use them in-game.

Red Dead Redemption 2 developers open up about work conditions at Rockstar Games

Rockstar Games, still battling blowback from the offhand comment that a company co-founder gave about long work hours in an interview published this week, last night gave current employees permission to speak about their work experiences over social media. Some, who have worked on the Red Dead Redemption and Grand Theft Auto franchises, have taken that opportunity and have pushed back at the depiction that they work under unfair conditions and expectations.

“I haven’t worked a 100-hour week in my life,” Zoe Sams, a tools programmer with Rockstar North, said on Twitter. “I’m thanked for any overtime I am asked to do, and it feels like in those circumstances it truly was an unfortunate situation.”

Blizzard tempers Diablo hype for BlizzCon 2018

With anticipation building for a big Diablo announcement at next month’s BlizzCon, Blizzard Entertainment got out ahead of its annual fan convention to temper expectations about what to expect from the franchise.

Blizzard made a similar expectations-setting announcement last year, outright saying it wouldn’t have news to share about Diablo at BlizzCon 2017. For this year’s show, Blizzard appears to be suggesting that we shouldn’t expect what many Diablo fans are expecting — aka Diablo 4.

Loot Crate launches Loot Play, an indie games subscription service

Loot Crate, the subscription service known for delivering boxes of geeky memorabilia and collectibles to video game fans, is now offering a monthly digital subscription of indie games for PC players.

Loot Play, available now for $10 a month, begins with Crossing Souls, which debuted in winter and in July launched for Nintendo Switch. Key reseller Chrono.gg is partnering with Loot Crate to deliver the bundle. Each month, subscribers will get five games. One, like Crossing Souls this month, will be named ahead of time and featured on Loot Crate’s Tuesday livestreams on Twitch and Mixer.

Obama announced that he doesn’t care about Pokémon, thus ushering in an age of heartbreak

Today, sad news rippled across the nation: Former President Barack Obama revealed that he does not like Pokémon.

For everyone imagining the former commander in chief going on a Pokémon adventure of his own (his starter would probably be a Squirtle, I can say, in my totally official, presidential Pokémon starter voice), gone are those dreams. Because Obama, apparently, doesn’t like the greatest video game franchise of all time.

Destiny 2 data mining suggests the return of Destiny’s Thunderlord

For weeks, there has been a rumor in the Destiny community that the Thunderlord exotic machine gun will be returning as part of Destiny 2’s Festival of the Lost event, the series’ Halloween stand-in. After the recent Destiny 2 patch, players have been able to search through the game’s new data to find evidence of the exotic’s return.

As of patch 2.0.4, there is a new classified heavy exotic in the Collections tab — one that nobody has or knows how to get. One of Thunderlord’s original perks, Feeding Frenzy, has also appeared in the game’s database and is currently unattached to any weapon. This is similar to what happened when players first discovered Black Spindle’s signature perks — the weapon is called Whisper of the Worm in Destiny 2 — in the game’s database.

Epic takes big-time YouTuber to federal court over Fortnite hacks

Epic Games, maker of Fortnite, is now going after two YouTubers — one with more than 1.7 million subscribers — alleging they used aimbots to hack the game and sold their cheats to others for as much as $300.

Brandon Lucas, operator of the “Golden Modz” YouTube channel, and Colton Conter, host of Exentric, are named in the complaint filed Oct. 10 in federal court in North Carolina, where Epic Games is based. The lawsuit (first reported by TorrentFreak) says both promoted hacks that gave players “magical powers” and laughed about the unfair competitive advantages they got in the popular battle royale shooter. Lucas’ channel, which also deals in Grand Theft Auto 5 and Call of Duty modding, has 1,730,767 subscribers. Conter’s has 7,101.

Players can finally earn an achievement that required five years of not trying

The Stanley Parable can be “finished” in under 30 minutes, but you’ll want to go through the game multiple times to see everything there is to see. The short length of the game does mean, however that many players who bought it on Oct. 17, 2013 — when it launched — and never picked it up again are now eligible for a very special achievement.

The achievement is called “Go outside,” and it requires that the player not touch the game for five years. Davey Wreden, one of the game’s developers, marked the occasion on Twitter today.

Dream Daddy to teach PS4 owners how to date-while-daddying

Consoles have been in dire need of dating sims, especially ones that are about relationships both romantic and familial. Dream Daddy: A Dad Dating Simulator won fans for nailing that rare intersection on PC last year, and now the game is heading to PlayStation 4 to bring its teachings to the rest of us.

Dream Daddy: Dadrector’s Cut follows the premise of the original game: Players’ custom-made, single hot dad woos other bachelor hotties, while still managing to be a good parent to his daughter. New with the console version, however, are added sidequests, previously cut content and another minigame to try out.
