5 things to know about Fortnite’s Halloween patch v6.20

Fortnite’s newest patch, v6.20, is the biggest of the year so far, and not just because of the Halloween event. While Fortnitemares is likely going to be what holds most players’ attention, this patch also includes a few more additions to the game.

First, v6.20 will return the revolver from the vault, while also updating the gun to give it a more defined place in the game. Meanwhile, Epic is also adding some new items to Playground mode and testing out some changes that would allow players to redeploy their glider during any Battle Royale game.

Fallout 76 desperately needs private servers

Fallout 76 is in desperate need of private servers. The time I spent with the beta Tuesday night on Xbox One felt awkward, with other players as well as global events intruding on what has traditionally been a solitary experience. I understand that Bethesda is taking a calculated risk with its next game by trying to add something new to the Fallout series, but if the company isn’t careful, Fallout 76 may diminish the franchise in the eyes of its most dedicated fans.

Last night’s beta was weird. I was dropped into the game world rather unceremoniously, waking up inside my bedroom underground in Vault 76. From there it was a straight shot past a few tables filled with supplies and a few helpful tutorial messages. In minutes I was outside the vault, squinting into the daylight.

Pokémon: Let’s Go! legendary Meltan’s evolution revealed

It turns out that Meltan, the adorably small mythical Pokémon that’s exclusive to Pokémon Go, has an evolutionary form. The latest video in the Professor Oak/Professor Willow saga, released in anticipation of Pokémon: Let’s Go!, introduces Melmetal — the first legendary Pokémon evolution in the franchise.

Unlike Meltan, which is only eight inches in height, Melmetal is over eight-feet tall. It also weighs nearly 2,000 pounds — which, in the clip, freaks out Oak and Willow, who aren’t ready to transfer something that big between the Pokémon Go and Pokémon: Let’s Go! universes.

Red Dead Redemption 2 companion app coming to Android, iOS

Rockstar Games will release a companion app for Red Dead Redemption 2 on Oct. 26, the same day the full game hits stores, that will deliver “real-time interactive information” to Android and iOS devices.

The Red Dead Redemption 2 app will let players view the game’s world map, and set waypoints and mark areas of interest as they explore, according to a post on Rockstar Games’ website. The app also promises real-time information on Arthur Morgan’s health, stamina and other stats, which Rockstar says will aid players who prefer a HUD-less game presentation.

Here’s everything we know about Fortnitemares, the 2018 Fortnite Halloween event

[Ed. note: Fortnitemares was temporarily disabled by Epic Games just a few hours after it went live, thanks to some matchmaking issues that it may have been causing. According to a tweet from Epic, it’s working on a fix and the event should be back as soon as it’s ready. And when it is, here’s everything we know about it.]

Ever since last year’s infamous Skull Trooper skin was released, Halloween has been a special time for Fortnite, and this time around Epic is going all out to celebrate.

Fortnite patch v6.20 change list: Halloween event and more

The new Fortnite patch has a massive amount of content to explore. While some of the patches so far this season haven’t been so big, patch v6.20 makes up for all of them with one of the biggest patches the game has ever seen.

The biggest addition in this patch comes via the game’s Halloween event: Fortnitemares. Instead of a normal limited-time mode, this is going to be a limited-time event, which completely changes every single game across all of the different Battle Royale queues. Fortnitemares is adding new AI enemies to the game, as the Cube has come back to haunt players and is sending its minions after everyone. Killing these enemies will give players loot, but it looks like they do present some danger.

SpongeBob SquarePants’ next movie tells his origin story

We’ve known that SpongeBob SquarePants would be headed back to the big screen since early 2015, but only now have we received our first real details of what he’ll be up to in his third feature film.

During her talk at the VIEW Conference in Turin, Italy, Paramount Animation president Mireilla Soria gave fans a brief description of the movie, according to Cartoon Brew. Soria said that the movie, which will be called The SpongeBob Movie: It’s a Wonderful Sponge, is going to explore the character’s history, taking Bikini Bottom’s favorite sponge back to his roots at Camp Coral, where he first met all his undersea friends. The film will also, based on its title, bear a heavy influence from Frank Capra’s 1949 Christmas classic, It’s a Wonderful Life.
