Fortnite’s newest vehicle and patch have been delayed

Just hours after teasing the existence of Fortnite’s newest, probably snowboard-like vehicle, Epic Games has announced that the vehicle, called the Driftboard, won’t be released with the game’s upcoming patch.

Fans initially glimpsed the board back in Epic’s first official tease of the new season, where a character riding a snowboard could be seen just off the side of the image. The season 7 update came and went with no mention of the new vehicle. However, it appears Epic was just biding its time.

Top player presents Super Smash Bros. Ultimate tier list

Zero, the so-called “King of Smash 4” competitive play and the top streamer for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, has proposed a tier list for the latest Smash Bros. game, one of the first comprehensive, analytical rankings since the game’s launch earlier this month.

Since his initial tier list at the start of last month, some characters have made some serious moves, as seen in the video above. Inkling is now listed as the best character in the game — according to Zero — a big upgrade from nearly last on the earlier lists Tier 1 section. Chrom has perhaps seen the biggest improvement, moving all the way from one of the worst characters in the game to the second-best.

Fallout 76 introduces more atom cosmetics, and a potential loot box system

Fallout 76’s bi-weekly patch schedule and upcoming weekly events haven’t quite been enough to stem the tide of complaints about the survival-based open world title. Everything from bug fixes that change the distribution of meat stew, to game breaking bugs and long load times, to security leaks from the Bethesda support site, have come under fire.

Bethesda’s developers have stated that they intend to be more open with the community that is sticking with the title, but they have a lot of work to do: Recent datamining of an upcoming changelog suggests that loot boxes may be coming to the game, which might add another layer of controversy to Fallout 76.

Escape From Tarkov team barrages YouTuber with DMCA takedowns over `misinformation`

Battlestate Games, developers of the multiplayer tactical shooter Escape From Tarkov, have issued nearly 50 Digital Millennium Copyright Copyright Act (DMCA) claims against a YouTuber with the handle “Eroktic.” Rather than citing piracy or unfair use of content for monetization, Battlestate tells Polygon those claims were made because of incorrect information and overall negativity about their game.

Reached for comment, Battlestate said it had no other choice than to issue DMCA claims, which could result in serious legal issues for Eroktic up to and including the removal of his channel from YouTube. The law, which is broadly written, tends to support these kinds of actions by game developers.

Fresh Prince’s Alfonso Ribeiro suing Epic Games over Fortnite Carlton Dance use

Alfonso Ribeiro, who starred as Carlton Banks in the ’90s sitcom The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, is the latest celebrity to sue Epic Games over claims that the company stole his dance and recreated it in Fortnite, according to Mr. Ribeiro’s law firm.

This dispute comes specifically in regards to the game’s dance “Fresh” emote, which came out in January of 2018. The dance was immediately recognized by the community as the “Carlton Dance,” which Ribeiro made famous. Even the Fresh name is a clear reference to the sitcom itself.

Remixed Filipino history inspired this fighting game

When fighting games pull cultural inspiration for characters, often the byproduct is merely skin deep. It’s true that some classic franchises have based characters off real-world fighters, but the influences hardly encourage a second thought. A small studio in the Philippines hopes to change that, with a fighting game that remixes the personalities and histories of some of the country’s greatest heroes.

Bayani, currently on Kickstarter, is a project by the Ranida Studios games division, which pulls inspiration directly from the nation’s most notable figures. Those figures include Filipino revolutionary leaders, politicians or explorers mostly from the country’s Spanish colonial era.

PS4 players release rare total player counts due to social media data

Sony recently launched a social media program called “My PS4 Life,” which automatically edits together a history of each player’s time on PlayStation 4 and releases some of the information in a video. You just log into your PlayStation account, and in a few minutes, Sony will take you through a guided tour of your PlayStation 4 highlights.

Clever players have discovered that the data given in these videos can be combined with the information already available through the trophy system on the console to apparently show how many people have played each game.

Kingdom Hearts 3 trailer hints at the intense conclusion we’ve always wanted

Kingdom Hearts 3 may have leaked a little (or a lot) early over the weekend, but for those of us who choose to remain unspoiled, the game’s newest trailer serves as an amazing way to hype us up.

This one prepares us for the final fight of the Kingdom Hearts trilogy, with Sora, Donald and Goofy splitting their time between chilling with the Frozen cast, Tigger and Remy from Ratatouille, and watching the decimation of worlds like that of Toy Story and Hercules.

Street Fighter 5: Arcade Edition’s fourth season kicks off today with a new character, Kage. Capcom revealed the new fighter, described as “the physical embodiment of the evil spirit, ‘Satsui no Hado,’” after today’s Capcom Cup finals.

Kage is not the Evil Ryu, despite the fact that he’s an evil Ryu doppelgänger, but something else. Here’s how Capcom describes the new character:

Artifact’s first big update brings quicker tournament play

Artifact, the Dota 2 card collecting game, got its first major update since launching Nov. 28. The 1.1 update, announced at the end of the week, brings in two new decks and three types of short-duration open tournaments, to streamline participation.
