Panty Party for Switch turns underwear into fighting machines

A game called Panty Party will launch on Nintendo Switch this spring — but it is not at all what you’re expecting it to be, based on that name alone. Cosen, a Japanese indie studio, released a mesmerizing trailer this weekend with an important, surprising caveat: “‘Warning!’” writes Cosen. “NO HENTAI contents in this game! All you get is funny and stupid panties!”

Cosen isn’t kidding. Panty Party is a fighting game starring a diverse cast of underwear, all of which (or whom? they are sentient, after all) can shoot out lasers from their hems. Doesn’t matter if it’s the panties with the teddy bear attached, the schoolgirl skirt-styled briefs, or the pink striped bikini; they all are ready to murder each other.

‘New’ Wii U hardware prices have skyrocketed

Nintendo ceased Wii U production by January 2017, and the demand for new, unopened hardware has caused resale prices to soar. Finding the console in new condition for under $500 is next to impossible, and the price can be much higher on retail sites like Amazon and eBay.

Nintendo launched the Wii U in the U.S. on Nov. 18, 2012, with the white 8 GB models selling for $299.99 and the black 32 GB models that included a copy of Nintendo Land selling for $349.99. Fans bought 13.56 million Wii U consoles in the hardware’s lifespan, making it Nintendo’s least popular gaming platform to date (with the obvious exception of the Virtual Boy, which even Nintendo wants to forget about).

A new Alien game is coming to mobile. Survival horror game Alien: Blackout will star Amanda Ripley, daughter of Ellen Ripley and the protagonist of 2014’s Alien: Isolation, when it comes to Android and iOS devices later this year.

“Try to stay alive while trapped aboard a crippled Weyland-Yutani space station carrying a deadly Xenomorph as it tirelessly hunts you and the crew,” reads the official description of Alien: Blackout. “Outsmart the perfect hunter by making perilous choices. Players must rely on the damaged controls of the space station or risk sacrificing crew members to avoid deadly contact, permanently altering the outcome of the game.”

14 Days of Fortnite comes back for 7 days

Epic Games is extending — or, rather, bringing back — the 14 Days of Fortnite event that just wrapped up last week. So it’ll get going again sometime this coming week (early, they say) and run until Jan. 15.

This is because Epic originally gave an incorrect end date for the event. After catching the mistake, the publisher offered a free Equalizer Glider as a make-good. Now they’ve decided that wasn’t the best approach, and are bringing back the event to let everyone earn all the rewards they may have missed because of the date screwup.

Count Dooku arrives this month in Battlefront 2

Star Wars Battlefront 2 will continue its Clone Wars-themed slate of updates with Count Dooku’s addition to the roster of playable Heroes on Jan. 23.

Dooku (Darth Tyranus if that name makes you snicker like a 7-year-old) will be the highlight of a Battle Point Event the following weekend (Jan. 25 to Jan. 27). In this event, Heroes can be acquired for half their Battle Point cost, provided players are playing Galactic Assault in a map specific to that Hero’s era. In Dooku’s case, that means Prequel-era maps.

Why Smash Bros. players think Dragon Quest DLC is next for Ultimate

Data-miners are digging into Super Smash Bros. Ultimate’s source code and pulling out what they say are hints about the game’s upcoming new fighters. Among details about characters’ speed and weight values — important info for the competitive scene — there appears to be a codename for an unannounced character in the mix, dataminers say.

One dataminer posted a shot of in-game files, highlighting several lines of code; one of those is for “fighter_kind_brave.” The text suggests that this is a kind of fighter internally referred to as Brave (obviously), which may seem too vague to speculate on. But Smash players theorize that the file for “Brave” could be a Dragon Quest hero, and they say there’s evidence to support their claims.
