‘Orange Shirt Kid’ mom sues Epic Games over Fortnite’s Orange Justice dance

The mother of “Orange Shirt Kid” wants justice for her son, and is suing Epic Games over Fortnite’s Orange Justice dance emote. It’s the latest legal tangle for Epic, which is now facing multiple lawsuits over dance-based emotes in its battle royale game.

The complaint, first reported by Variety, was filed in California court by Rachel McCumbers, the mother of the boy known as Orange Shirt Kid (named as C.C.M. in court documents) whose video went viral within the Fortnite community last year. The suit alleges copyright infringement, arguing that Epic copied the dance move — named “the Random” by the boy — and the catchphrase (“It’s also a great exercise move”), but “did not credit Orange Shirt Kid nor seek his consent to use, display, reproduce, sell, or create a derivative work based upon Orange Shirt Kid’s Random dance or likeness in Fortnite.”

Final Fantasy 14’s new job, Blue Mage, is out now

Final Fantasy 14’s newest job, Blue Mage, dropped today as part of patch 4.5. Unlike the other jobs in the game, Blue Mage learns spells from enemies, requiring players go out on hunts to collect them.

The Blue Mage is considered a “limited” class, which means it can’t be taken into dungeons, trials, or raids through normal party-finding queues. You can take Blue Mage into these types of content in pre-made parties, however.

Resident Evil 2 remake’s Tofu: everything we know

Capcom will release its remake of Resident Evil 2 later this month, giving fans a new opportunity to play as Leon S. Kennedy and Claire Redfield as they attempt to escape zombie-infested Raccoon City. The remake will also bring back two additional playable characters, Hunk and Tofu, the latter of whom has been impressively remade to be more photorealistically tofu-like than previously rendered.

Tofu appeared in the original Resident Evil 2 in a scenario named “The Tofu Survivor.” It was a more challenging version of Hunk’s scenario, “The Fourth Survivor,” because Tofu is armed with nothing but a knife and a few herbs.

Crafting games could learn something from My Time at Portia

Crafting games could learn something from My Time at Portia

My Time at Portia might seem like familiar territory. It has all the farming, crafting, relationship-building, mining, and monsters you’ve seen in other farming and crafting sims. But where it sets itself apart from Stardew Valley and its ilk is not only in its charm, which it has in spades, but also in how developer Pathea Games streamlined some of the genre’s biggest time wasters.

Before the game delivers its twist on the formula, it treads some common ground first. After I created my character, I set off to claim an old cottage that was bestowed upon me in a town called Portia. As is often the case with these types of games, it’s up to me to restore the aging home to its former glory, improve the lives of the town’s residents by taking up odd jobs and slowly piecing together the potentially post-apocalyptic subplot.

Super Dragon Ball Heroes World Mission brings RPG-card game to Switch, PC

Bandai Namco Entertainment will release Super Dragon Ball Heroes World Mission, a card game-meets-RPG, this April. The company announced that the Nintendo Switch and Windows PC game will mark the popular franchise’s first appearance outside of Japan.

The Dragon Ball Heroes series kicked off last summer with both the card game and a promotional anime tied into it, which lies firmly outside of the primary Dragon Ball canon. In this game, players star as Beat, who lives in a place called Hero Town, and takes part in World Mission’s meta-game: He wants to be the best in the world at playing the Super Dragon Ball Heroes card game. Turns out that his in-game desires bleed into the real world, bringing the fighting out of the game.

Elite: Dangerous’ Distant Worlds 2, a journey to the edge of the Milky Way Galaxy

On Jan. 13, 2018 nearly 12,000 commanders in Elite: Dangerous embarked on an epic, 200,000-light year journey to the edge of the Milky Way.

What began as a bold adventure for a single player named Commander Erimus Kamzel has spawned the largest fleet in MMO history. With nearly 12,000 players signed up on day one, the fleet is roughly 10 times larger than the one assembled for the original Distant Worlds in 2016. The one-way trip to Beagle Point, the star farthest from the center of Elite’s simulation of our Milky Way galaxy, will take roughly 18 weeks. Then, the fleet will need to chart a course home.

The launch of Distant Worlds 2 crashed Elite’s servers, but fans didn’t seem to care

On Jan. 13, players in Elite: Dangerous came together to embark on the most ambitious expedition in MMO history. It was an incredible event, albeit one fragmented among dozens and dozens of in-game instances. In the middle of the festivities, the servers themselves crashed spectacularly. But by the dawn of the next morning, a new community nearly 12,000 players strong has sent itself hurtling into the void together on a mission of peace and exploration.

The expedition, called Distant Worlds 2, hopes to recreate the journey taken by a player who goes by the in-game handle of Commander Erimus Kamzel. In January 2015, Erimus was the first player to reach the most distant star in Elite’s complex simulation of the Milky Way galaxy. The game’s creators at Frontier Developments chose to honor him by renaming the system, originally called Ceeckia ZQ-L C24-0, after his ship, the DSS Beagle.

Rocket League gets full cross-platform play — yes, even on PS4

Rocket League players can now battle each other regardless of the system they’re playing on. Developer Psyonix rolled out cross-platform play support for the vehicular soccer game Monday across Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Windows PC, and Xbox One.

Psyonix and Sony added Rocket League to PS4’s cross-play beta program today, an initiative that launched in September, in large part thanks to Fortnite and player outcry. Cross-platform play is now available in all of Rocket League’s online match types, including casual, competitive, and extra modes.
