Praey for the Gods, a spiritual successor to Shadow of the Colossus, has us hooked

The independently produced action-adventure game Praey for the Gods entered Steam’s Early Access program on Jan. 31. Described in its original Kickstarter campaign as an ambitious blend of Shadow of the Colossus, Deus Ex, DayZ, and Bloodborne, the game has been in development since at least 2014. After spending just a few hours with it last week, I’m a little bit blown away.

Praey for the Gods is a third-person survival brawler set on a desolate, frozen island. I take on the role of a silent protagonist on a mission to destroy a collection of powerful gods. The opening mission provides only a basic understanding of the controls before throwing me into battle with a a frost-breathing monster as big as a mountain.

What you’ll be playing in The Division 2’s beta next week

The closed-but-not-if-you-preorder-the-game beta for Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 gets going on Thursday, Feb. 7 (through Sunday, Feb. 10) and if you’re in, it sounds like it’ll serve a slice showing all the layers of the final game, including endgame stuff.

That means the three specializations, which unlock at level 30 in the full game, will be playable in the beta a day after it begins (on all platforms). On Friday, Feb. 8 beginning at 11 a.m. ET, players will be able to take on an “Invaded” mission, using a character at the level 30 cap. That will show them how The Division 2’s three specializations — survivalist (all-rounder), sharpshooter (sniper) and demolitionist (blow stuff up) — work.

Watch the full Marshmello Fortnite concert here

Today saw bizarre new ground broken in the world of live concert spectacles. Marshmello, known D.J. and EDM artist, hosted a live concert within the confines of a video game. Fortnite was of course the venue, specifically Fortnite’s Pleasant Park.

The concert lasted about 10 minutes, and featured a small handful of Marshmello’s most well-known songs, including “Happier” and “Alone.” The songs were blasted through the in-game audio, removing all player sound for a cleaner experience.

Reports: Titanfall battle royale game coming very soon

The worst-kept secret in video gaming right now is that a battle royale set in the Titanfall universe is going to be announced on Monday, which is also the day the game launches.

Rod Breslau, the esports journalist, says he received tips from several streamers who were in Los Angeles yesterday for an event tied to the game, which is called Apex Legends. Breslau said (and Kotaku’s Jason Schreier confirmed) that the game will be free-to-play and launch on PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One.

Groundhog Day VR game is coming this year

Today is Groundhog Day, which makes it the perfect time for Sony to announce a VR game set in the (I cannot believe I am typing this) cinematic universe of Groundhog Day, the goofy-yet-heartwarming 1993 hit starring Bill Murray as a beleaguered Pittsburgh weatherman stuck in a time loop.

Groundhog Day: Like Father Like Son, is “an immersive VR game” that continues where the film left off, 26 years later. Players will take the role of Phil Connors, Jr. who is, like his Dad, “charming but arrogant” and also stuck in Punxsutawney, Pa. (so, Phil and Rita did make good on their desire to settle down there). Also like Phil Sr., Phil Jr. must repeat the day over and over until he, too, “learns the true value of friends and family.”
