Fortnite season 8 patch adds pirate cannons and new locations to the map

Fortnite’s newest season is here and with it a massive patch. While this patch includes plenty of gameplay changes, the most noticeable additions have come to Fortnite’s map.

Epic is changing up the environment a bit. Change has come to Wailing Woods, which has burned to the ground and replaced by a giant volcano — the one from all the teasers — and a dense jungle. Also new to the map are Sunny Steps, an hidden series of steppe-like pyramids in the jungle, and the Lazy Lagoon, a secret pirate cove that now occupies most of the map’s northern edge.

IGN will play host to the new Alien: Isolation series, all seven episodes of which will be available on YouTube on Feb. 28. The debut trailer, which you can watch above, promises to tell Amanda Ripley’s “journey from a new angle.”

The Happy Homeroom is a new location on the Pocket Camp map, where players can participate in a design minigame that challenges their stylistic chops. Happy Home Academy maven Lottie, whom Animal Crossing fans first met back in Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer on 3DS, teaches classes in interior decorating. Joined by a panel of judges, Lottie doles out assignments that require fixing up a room to an animal camper’s particular tastes.

In the meantime, the games for February — including Hitman: The Complete First Season and For Honor — are still available.

Overkill’s The Walking Dead is no more, after Skybound terminates deal

The console versions of Overkill’s The Walking Dead have been canceled, in just about the most definitive way possible. Skybound Entertainment, the company that licenses and manages Walking Dead video games, said yesterday it terminated its contract with the bankrupt Starbreeze Studios and “will discontinue all efforts” on the game.

“We did our best to work with Starbreeze and resolve many issues that we saw with the game, but ultimately Overkill’s The Walking Dead did not meet our standards nor is it the quality that we were promised,” Skybound said. “We are exceedingly sorry to our fans and share in their disappointment in the game.”
