MLB The Show 19 at long last has its cover star in uniform

Less than a month before its launch, MLB The Show 19 finally has its cover in place. This has to be some kind of a record for latest cover reveal in the history of console sports gaming.

Anyway, we’ve known since November the cover athlete would be six-time All-Star Bryce Harper, but not if that would be Bryce Harper of the Dodgers, Bryce Harper of the White Sox (lol), or Bryce Harper of the Phillies. Thursday’s news that Harper has inked a stupefying 13-year deal worth $330 million puts him in red pinstripes on the box for the PlayStation 4’s baseball flagship:

Destiny 2: Season of the Drifter’s new roadmap details 90 days of content

Bungie just revealed Destiny 2: Season of the Drifter and released a development roadmap alongside it. The roadmap details the next 90 days of planned content for Destiny 2.

Starting on March 5, Annual Pass owners can try out the new modes: Gambit Prime — a more focused, class-based version of Gambit — and The Reckoning — a four player matchmade event like Court of Oryx or Blind Well. Three days later, The Reckoning’s second difficulty tier becomes available. Gambit Prime will only launch with one map — New Arcadia on Mars. A week later on March 12, Gambit Prime will get its second map — Deep Six on Titan.

Disease sim Plague Inc. will add anti-vaxxers after player petition

Coming soon to the virus-spreading strategy sim Plague Inc. is a new threat to humanity: anti-vaxxers.

Should you have the luxury to never encounter one of this crusade of science deniers, a brief definition: Anti-vaxxers are people who choose not to vaccinate their kids for reasons religious, political, or otherwise misguided, generally influenced by the unproven belief that vaccines can cause autism or illnesses. (Instead, vaccines can protect and prevent outbreaks of health risks, like measles.)

Horizon Zero Dawn: more than 10 million copies sold lifetime

Horizon Zero Dawn celebrated its second birthday today with this announcement: It has sold “well over” 10 million copies since its February 2017 launch, placing it in the company of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, which has also hit eight figures in sales in a similar time.

That is quite a return for Guerrilla Games, whose wagon had been hitched to a Killzone franchise that last published with the PlayStation 4’s launch. Horizon Zero Dawn is the Sony studio’s first new intellectual property since Killzone, though 2013’s Killzone: Shadow Fall did sell well (more than 2 million copies in its first two months).

An Anthem update will change how Inscriptions work on late-game gear, beginning with an upcoming patch.

In a post on the Anthem subreddit, lead producer Ben Irving detailed some of the incoming changes to Inscriptions — small but important bonus effects added to each weapon or gear piece (such as a percentage bonus to all assault rifles or increased flight time).

Disney reveals new details for Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge theme park

While we still don’t know the opening day for Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, at least we know that Disney’s newest theme park will have blue milk. That and a million other tiny details emerged today following a press tour of the nearly-complete 14-acre facility at Disneyland Park in Anaheim, California.

But the most interesting news by far comes in the form of new details about two new rides, Millennium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run and Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance.

Red Dead Online’s latest patch didn’t solve the game’s biggest problems

Red Dead Online’s latest patch didn’t solve the game’s biggest problems

Red Dead Online’s Feb. 26 patch was meant to address some of the game’s biggest issues, including griefing and a lack of content. While the update does improve some aspects of Red Dead Online, it worsens others, and worries players about the future of this cowboy-themed sandbox in Red Dead Redemption 2.

The most recent patch introduced a law and bounty system. A bounty system is, in theory, intriguing. In practice, the current system either needs more refining or far more explanation. Players who defend themselves against griefers are incurring bounties; self-defense does not apply. And previously inoffensive activities, like bar room brawls or accidentally trampling a wandering NPC, now incur a bounty.

Kingdom Hearts 3 DLC will add more difficulty, deepen the story

There’s more Kingdom Hearts 3 content coming this year, according to series director Tetsuya Nomura. And that includes both free and premium DLC, both of which will bring some desired updates to the role-playing game.

In an interview with Japanese outlet Dengeki Online, Nomura said that Square Enix will add Critical Mode to the game as a free update in the coming months. Fans will remember Critical Mode as the apex of challenge in the Kingdom Hearts series, restricting players’ health, strength, and abilities. This falls in line with a reported data mine of the game; data miners shared what they said were files hinting at a Kingdom Hearts 3 Critical Mode.

A Weezer-themed island has appeared in Fortnite ... for some reason

Fortnite is no stranger to brand collaborations. The world’s biggest game teamed up with the world’s biggest movie franchise for a one-of-a-kind Thanos game mode; that was pretty cool. Electronic musician Marshmello once held an in-game concert in Fortnite, a combination that makes perfect sense given the visible overlap in audiences. Today, though, Epic Games has released the most baffling combination of 2019 thus far: Weezer and Fortnite.

In addition to introducing a new volcano-filled season to the world, Epic Games has also placed a jukebox on a Creative Mode island that only plays Weezer songs. The collaboration is likely meant to advertise Weezer’s 2019 albums, known as The Teal Album and The Black Album, but even so, one can’t help but ask: Why?

Here’s a theory. Resident Weezer nerd and Polygon news editor Allegra Frank explains that being a Weezer fan means “having a pretty inextricable, and at times inexplicable, connection to a plaintively vulnerable soul.” And few video game genres make you more vulnerable than battle royale games.
