Electronic Arts will return to Los Angeles ahead of E3 2019 for its annual EA Play event, but the publisher’s independent show will be quite different this year — EA is foregoing a traditional press conference in favor of a series of live streams.

EA Play 2019 will “see less talk and more play,” Electronic Arts said in an announcement. The three day event will kick off on Friday, June 7 with a new style of presentation.

It’s the end of winter here in the United States, but Nintendo has arrived with a bumper crop of new games. Today’s Nintendo eShop update includes includes a heaping helping of titles for the Switch, as well as one big-name game for fans of their handheld system.

The biggest addition by far is Kirby’s Extra Epic Yarn, available on Nintendo 3DS. It’s the latest version of the game originally released on Nintendo Wii in 2010, and later on Wii U in 2016. A new “Devilish Mode” has been added to the side scroller, making it just a little bit more difficult. It also includes new minigames featuring Meta Knight and King Dedede. The game will be available March 8.

A new system software update for PlayStation 4 rolled out today, giving console owners the option to control the system from their iPhone or iPad, via Remote Play for iOS. A new app, PS4 Remote Play, is available to download for free from the Apple App Store.

PS4 Remote Play will let iOS device owners control their PS4, join voice chats using the microphone, and enter text on their console using the keyboard on their mobile device. The app requires iOS 12.1 or later, a PlayStation Network account, and a home WiFi network. PS4 Remote Play cannot be used over a mobile network and is not compatible with a DualShock 4 controller, according to the app’s release notes.

Anthem patch to fix PS4 crashes coming next week, BioWare says

BioWare says it has identified the issues in Anthem that were causing players’ PlayStation 4 systems to crash and will issue a patch to fix that problem in an update expected on March 12.

In a stream on Twitch today, Anthem lead producer Ben Irving said that BioWare “discovered a bunch of things that were causing crashes, and we’ve addressed them in our patch.” Irving also said that, based on BioWare and Sony’s investigation into the crashes, they haven’t found any consoles were actually “bricked,” or rendered completely unusable, by Anthem crashes.

Nintendo announced a new addition to the Labo line on Wednesday: a cardboard construction set that includes will bring “simple and shareable” virtual reality experiences to Nintendo Switch. The Nintendo Labo: VR Kit is described as a “unique first VR experience” that will be made available on Apr. 12 for Switch.

The new Labo VR Toy-Con set will come in a variety of packages. The full $79.99 set will include six Toy-Con Projects: a set of VR goggles, a rocket launcher-like blaster, a camera, a bird, a wind pedal, and an elephant. There’ll also be an additional screen holder and safety cap included.
