Mortal Kombat’s newest fighter, Kollector, gets handsy with his grisly fatality

Meet Kollector, an all-new kharacter koming to Mortal Kombat 11. How many arms does he really have? I kount six.

Look klosely! A tiny T-rex set are on Kollector’s back, holding up his satchel. From this bag o’ goodies, Kollector goes all American Pickers with both his fatal blow and fatality. In the former, Kollector beats Baraka senseless with a flea market’s worth of bric-a-brac. I half expected to see the snow globe from Sons of Anarchy in there. The latter is sort of the same thing in reverse, as Kollector disassembles Baraka and decides what parts to keep in his bloody black back pack.

The Division 2’s White House staff won’t bother you so much after the latest patch

The Division 2’s White House staff won’t bother you so much after the latest patch

Tucked inside the patch notes published on Friday for the big-ass update to Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 is this welcome quality-of-life change: “Hey agent! Staff in the Base of Operation will now shout at the player less frequently than before.”

It may sound like a petty thing, but the fact Massive Entertainment saw fit to change it means that it wasn’t petty to a lot of players (and possibly some developers, too). You spend a lot of time in a menu in the White House, whether that’s crafting, sorting out/breaking down loot, choosing a new perk or just being a smart shopper at the gear desk. And doing so, you’ll hear “Hey Agent,” so many times you’ll think it was your own name.

Drawdog is a playable coloring book where staying in the lines doesn’t matter

Greg Lobanov’s 2018 title Wandersong may have been a nominee for the Independent Game Festival’s “Excellence In Narrative” category this year, but its presence at the 2019 Game Developers Conference was overshadowed by Lobanov’s alpha of Drawdog, a game that allows players to express themselves through paint and coloring.

Backed by a soundtrack by Lena Raine (whose work you may know from Celeste), as well as sound effects from Wandersong alum Em Halberstadt, Drawdog follows a cute, paintbrush-wielding canine in a world drained of color.

Simple dice become the heroes in Terry Cavanagh’s newest, Dicey Dungeons

Terry Cavanagh, creator of VVVVVV and Super Hexagon, thinks balance is overrated. Or, at least, he thinks that balance is overrated in Dicey Dungeons, the title he’s been working on alongside musician Chipzel and artist Marlowe Dobbe for the past few years.

Dicey Dungeons is a card and dice game that follows six quirky characters through procedurally generated episodes of a game show hosted by Lady Luck. Polygon got a look at the title at this year’s Game Developers Conference in San Francisco, and it’s shaping up to be a delight of a game.

Review-bombed Borderlands 2 is the first to have user scores thrown out by Steam

Borderlands 2 is the first game to get Steam’s “off-topic review activity” flag in its user reviews, under new measures that went into effect last month to combat so-called “review bombing” of games by gamers who are unhappy with their publishers or developers over something else.

On Borderlands 2’s customer reviews page, the 2012 game is listed as “overwhelmingly positive” in the opinion of its 92,497 user reviews, and 1,107 recent reviews are listed as “very positive.” Accompanying that is the note that the April 3 to April 6 time range of reviews “contai[n] an abnormal set of reviews that we believe are largely unrelated to the likelihood that you would enjoy the product.” These reviews are excluded from Borderlands 2’s aggregated reputation score.

Someone created Super Mario Maker inside LittleBigPlanet 3

Get ready to stare, once again, into the hall of mirrors that is the sandbox creation genre. Especially when a sandbox creation game apes another one. Yo dawg, here’s Super Mario Maker inside LittleBigPlanet 3, so you can have fun building levels while you have fun building levels.

This work is by Claptrap9; it hit YouTube last week-ish. They got to work on it on MAR10 day (March 10) to celebrate the announcement a month before that Super Mario Maker 2 was coming to Nintendo Switch this June.

Destiny 2’s Arc subclasses are getting overhauled next week

Arc Week has been on the Destiny 2: Season of the Drifter’s roadmap for over a month. In this week’s Bungie blog, the studio revealed the details of Arc Week.

Bungie themed Arc Week around the game’s different Arc subclasses. In next week’s patch, the team at Bungie will update some of the older Arc abilities. The goal is to make each subclass more impressive, as many of the older versions feel underpowered after their Forsaken updates.

Candid documentary about For Honor’s development hits Netflix

Candid documentary about For Honor’s development hits Netflix

Playing Hard, a surprisingly candid documentary about the making of For Honor, is available now on Netflix. Only a year old, it seems even more timely next to recent stories of working conditions, work/life balance, and ongoing stress in the game development community.

The documentary was not commissioned by Ubisoft. It’s the work of Jean-Simon Chartier, who wasn’t interested in video games as a subject per se. But he definitely noticed Ubisoft Montréal’s growing presence in the neighborhood where he worked and got curious enough about what they did to follow everyone around for several months.
