Ian McDiarmid says the Emperor is definitely ‘dead’ before Episode IX

Ian McDiarmid, the man who played Emperor Palpatine, wants you to know that the powerful Sith master is absolutely, positively “dead” heading into Episode IX. Whether or not you believe the man who played one of the most devious traitors in movie history is up to you.

McDiarmid made an amazing cameo last week when he dropped into Star Wars Celebration in Chicago as the lights came up on the first screening of the trailer for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

Sekiro costume mod lets you be a lizard shinobi

Sekiro costume mod lets you be a lizard shinobi

Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice does away with a number of FromSoftware staples from the Dark Souls games. There’s no multiplayer, there is far less character customization, and combat is effectively limited to just one weapon. Along with no character customization, there are no armor sets or outfits to equip, just Sekiro’s default outfit — in other words, no “Fashion Souls.”

Modder Zullie the Witch — the modder who has also uncovered their share of content cut from Bloodborne and Dark Souls games — is here to address Sekiro’s costume variety with a mod that swaps Sekiro’s model with those of other characters. That includes human characters like Emma the physician and the Nightjar Ninja, as well as non-human characters, like the sword-wielding monkey and the poisonous lizard. (Since publishing the mod, Zullie has also experimented with putting some Dark Souls 3 characters into Sekiro.)

Fans cheer as Ninja tells Fortnite player to ‘suck a dick’

The Fortnite World Cup is underway, with the first week of qualifiers wrapping up this weekend. Fortnite hopefuls wishing to compete in the $30 million finals threw their hats into the ring, and earned points to participate in the tournament. Twitch superstar Tyler “Ninja” Blevins streamed his qualifier matches, and while he did not place high enough to make it into the finals, he had an outburst that is making fans chatter.

The match, which begins with Blevins dropping onto the Fortnite pirate ship, appears to be a normal skirmish. At first he encounters an aggressive enemy, but he gets into a Baller vehicle and is whisked away. He gets hurt, but patches himself up near a campfire. Eventually the match unfolds onto Retail Row, where he encounters a rival. As Blevins dispatches the enemy, he tells him, “Suck a dick, dude. Literally, the fattest one you can find.” Blevins then mimics fellatio on a huge imaginary penis. “I want you to literally just ... shove the whole thing in your mouth,” he says.

The Mandalorian fills a gap in the modern Star Wars canon, and also embraces its fandom

Ever since Timothy Zahn’s Heir to the Empire trilogy was tossed out the airlock, there’s been a bit of a gap in the Star Wars timeline. Disney’s first live-action streaming television show, The Mandalorian, aims to fix that. Thanks to a panel at this year’s Star Wars Celebration fan convention, we finally know how the series fits into the revised canon of a galaxy far, far away.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens takes place some 30 years after the end of Return of the Jedi. Writer and producer Jon Favreau has set his series directly into that gap, placing it just five short years after the destruction of the second Death Star.

Borderlands 3 brings back Ashly Burch in her first big role

Ashly Burch will return to one of her first voice acting roles — Borderlands’ Tiny Tina — with Borderlands 3 later this year. Gearbox Software honcho Randy Pitchford confirmed the detail on Twitter.

Burch was known for the web comedy series Hey Ash, Whatcha Playin’ before landing the Tiny Tina role in 2012’s Borderlands 2. Her brother, Anthony Burch, was hired by Gearbox as a writer for that game, and apparently created the character with his sister in mind. She still had to audition for the part, and did, and got the job.

The first teaser for The Mandalorian shown at Star Wars Celebration

Disney and LucasFilm finally unveiled the first teaser for The Mandalorian. The short video was shown live to an eager audience at this year’s Star Wars Celebration fan convention. But it was blacked out from a live stream of the event, and hasn’t been made public yet.

The Mandalorian will be Disney’s first live-action Star Wars television show. It will also headline the media company’s new streaming service, Disney Plus, which will be the show’s exclusive home when it premieres later this year.

Marvel’s Star Wars comic will be handed off to Phil Noto and Greg Pak this summer

Marvel’s modern Star Wars comics will be trading hands this summer. Eisner-award winning writer Kieron Gillen and artist Angel Unzueta will be replaced by writer Greg Pak and Eisner-nominated artist Phil Noto. The announcement was made during a panel at this year’s Star Wars Celebration.

Gillen announced he would be leaving the series in his newsletter in January. Both he and Unzueta, who took a while to ease into the Star Wars style in my opinion, have been on a streak lately. Their time with the franchise will culminate with The Scourging of Shu-Torun arc, which will conclude with issue #67. Pak and Noto will pick up with issue #68 in July.

Elite Tetris player takes the NES version where no one has gone before

Forgive us, we missed this when it happened two months ago. But given this is a world record that concerns a game celebrating its 30th anniversary, it still seems timely to me. Not only was a new level reached in Tetris for the NES back on Feb. 15, the Tetris savant who accomplished it made it past what is considered the game’s kill screen.

For the record, that’s Joseph Saelee (via Reddit’s r/videos), also the record holder for fastest to 300,000 points, and co-record holder for fastest time to reach 100 lines. He’s playing on Level 18 difficulty, which means he starts the game at that speed but must still clear 130 lines before advancing to Level 19, and so forth.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order puts a new hero on the run

When Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order launches later this year, players will find themselves in the role of an all-new Force-using hero, on an all-new Star Wars world, on the run from an evil Empire sending new villains to wipe out him and his brethren.

Respawn Entertainment outlined its vision for the hotly anticipated game in a panel at today’s Star Wars Celebration in Chicago. The protagonist is a Padawan named Cal Kestis (portrayed by Cameron Monaghan, the Joker/Jeremiah Valeska on Gotham) who is on a journey to complete his Jedi training and master the elegant art of lightsaber combat.

Disney’s Star Wars Land will be one big multiplayer game thanks to mobile app

Disney’s new Star Wars-themed parks will include a unique augmented reality experience powered by an in-park mobile app. New details on the app integration were announced today at the Star Wars Celebration fan convention in Chicago. The app will reportedly transform Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge in Anaheim, California and Orlando, Florida into interactive, immersive digital experiences.

The app, called Play Disney Parks, has been available for some time for both iOS and Android devices. It was originally pitched as something for guests to do while waiting in line for rides or character meet and greets, with hooks like player progression and collectibles.
