Ubisoft store leak apparently gives up next Ghost Recon

A listing for what appears to be the next Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon game leaked through Ubisoft’s own online store earlier today. Ghost Recon Breakpoint is the game’s name. The release date is said to be Oct. 4, for PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One.

According to an earlier, and since-removed post on the Ghost Recon subreddit, Ghost Recon Breakpoint features the character Cole D. Walker — introduced in last week’s Operation Oracle update for Ghost Recon Wildlands — in charge of an army of weaponized drones.

Players datamine new Year 2 Exotic Catalysts in Destiny 2

In Destiny 2: Warmind, Bungie introduced the concept of Catalysts. More have trickled out in waves over the past year, but Bungie just added a large group to the game’s files in the 2.2.2. patch on May 7. Through datamining, players have found nine new Forsaken Catalysts, which have been confirmed on Light.gg via the game’s official API database.

Catalysts usually provide bonus weapon stats or even additional perks. Weapons with Catalysts also spawn Orbs of Light on multi-kills, meaning players can charge their Super abilities faster.

John Wick is getting a ‘gun fu’ strategy game

John Wick is getting his own video game. And, in a fascinating but brilliant twist, it’s a strategy game. John Wick Hex, coming to console and PC platforms, is in development at Bithell Games, the creators of Volume and Subsurface Circular.

Bithell and publisher Good Shepherd Entertainment describe John Wick Hex as a “fast-paced, action-oriented strategy game that makes you think and strike like John Wick” that was developed with input from the films’ creative and stunt teams. They say that every action in John Wick Hex will have cost and consequences, requiring “precise strategic thinking.”

US senator wants to legislate loot boxes in games targeted at children

Freshman senator Josh Hawley, a Republican from Missouri, today proposed guidelines for new legislation on loot boxes. His potential bill, which would be titled The Protecting Children from Abusive Games Act, could “apply new consumer protections to games played by minors.”

His proposal, published today, includes only the barest outlines of a potential bill, which would prohibit loot boxes and pay-to-win features in video games aimed at minors. The most contentious part of the potential bill, however, may be in how it determines which video games are targeted at minors.

China’s PUBG replacement makes people wave goodbye after they die

Despite having around 70 million average daily active users in the mobile version, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds in China is no more. Instead, we’ve got Game for Peace now, which, while almost identical to PUBG in many ways — it’s Tencent’s replacement for the battle royale sensation — the finer details are a little absurd.

Take, for instance, Game For Peace’s new dying animation, where your enemies wave goodbye at you after you slaughter them. OK then.

Fig is trying a new funding model, indie game to be the first guinea pig

Fig, the crowdfunding platform launched in 2015, is mixing things up. Now, instead of time-limited, all-or-nothing campaigns, it will allow for open-ended campaigns. The first title to utilize the new Open Access program is a turn-based role-playing game called Vagrus — The Riven Realms.

Open Access, currently in beta, is a play on “early access,” or the practice of selling in-development games at a discount to fund their ongoing creation. Early access success stories like Minecraft and DayZ spawned an entire category of early access games on Steam and elsewhere. In recent years, even AAA titles like Fortnite and the Call of Duty franchise have gone the early access route with certain game modes.

Apex Legends is probably headed to mobile

Apex Legends is already this year’s biggest new battle royale game on PC and consoles, and it looks like Electronic Arts wants to carry that success over to mobile devices. During the company’s fourth quarter earnings call on Tuesday, the publisher mentioned that it is actively working on bringing Apex Legends to mobile platforms as well as the Chinese market.

“We are in advanced negotiations to bring Apex Legends to China and mobile, and we will update you on time frames when those negotiations are concluded,” EA said during the call.

Detective Pikachu’s ‘full movie’ upload on YouTube is a super effective troll

Pokémon Detective Pikachu has been uploaded in its entirety to YouTube, just days before the movie hits theaters — or so Warner Bros. would have you think. What appears to be a rogue account uploading all 102 minutes of the live-action Pokémon movie and ruining its box office chances is instead a fantastic marketing stunt that’s also very much worth watching.

The YouTube video — “POKÉMON Detective Pikachu: Full Picture” — was uploaded on Tuesday by a user named Inspector Pikachu, who also tweeted it out. Actor Ryan Reynolds, who voices Pikachu in the film, then retweeted it.

Destiny 2 players discover secret Exotic quest after new patch

Destiny 2 patch 2.2.2. went live on Tuesday, and players have already found a new quest in the game. In the Heroic Adventure “Bad Neighbors” on Titan, players discovered a secret door. Through the door, they found a Fallen Transponder — a new Exotic quest item.

At the moment, nobody knows what to do next. Opening the Transponder in the Pursuits menu shows a panel of six nodes. Riddles behind the nodes request that players find hidden locations around the world of Destiny 2. Thanks to a data mine and the SIVA-themed symbols around the Fallen Transponder, players are confident this new quest will lead to the Destiny Exotic weapon Outbreak Prime.
