For Honor adds lightsabers in this year’s best Star Wars Day tribute

Ubisoft Montreal surprised For Honor fans with an apropos patch for Star Wars Day — lightsabers! But the studio may feel like the dog who caught the car, because their community is so delighted they want the elegant weapons for a more civilized age to remain full time.

For Honor’s subreddit has since come alive with memes, videos and tributes, ranging from throwdowns set to “Duel of the Fates” to the reenactment of Revenge of the Sith’s “it’s treason, then” parley between Palpatine and Mace Windu.

Apex Legends cheater ban count: over 700,000 served

Shortly after launching Apex Legends in February, Respawn Entertainment developers said they had already banned 16,000 cheaters from the game. That figure has since increased almost fiftyfold.

In a development update posted to Reddit on Thursday, Respawn’s community manager for the game said a total of 770,000 players have been banned since Apex Legends’ Feb 5. release. Moreover, Respawn has blocked more than 300,000 attempts to create new accounts, and in the past 20 days, banned more than 4,000 accounts associated with cheat selling. The figures are for the PC version of the game. Apex Legends is also available on Xbox One and PlayStation 4, where cheating and modding are easier to control.

How to watch Fortnite’s Loot Lake Unvaulting event

After over a month of buildup, the mysterious vault at the center of Fortnite’s Loot Lake is finally going to be open on Saturday, May 4, at 3 p.m. ET. The time was revealed to players with an in-game countdown clock that appeared above the sealed door on Friday afternoon. Whatever is going to happen, it appears that this will be this season 8’s big end-of-season event, with season 9 starting next week.

It should be in the middle of Loot Lake, where the giant metal door is right now. If leaks and assumptions are correct, that door should open revealing a special new area to explore.

Wait a minute, the Video Game Hall of Fame inducted ... Solitaire?

The World Video Game Hall of Fame today honored four more inductees, three of them landmark works of home computer gaming, and one of them a staple of the office.

That would be 1990’s Microsoft Solitaire, a pack-in with the Windows 3.0 operating system that “became ubiquitous around the world.” In today’s announcement, The Strong National Museum of Play in Rochester, New York, noted that the game “has been distributed on over a billion computers,” and has seen “35 billion games per year in over 200 markets.” The Strong’s Jeremy Saucier correctly observed that Microsoft Solitaire “helped pave the way for the growth of the casual gaming market that remains so popular today.”

How Rockstar built the love story at the heart of Red Dead Redemption 2

Red Dead Redemption 2 is a slow, deliberate game that focuses on far more than protagonist Arthur Morgan. Each member of the Van der Linde gang gets their time in the spotlight as Dutch and his boys make their way east toward St. Denis and onward to the vague, increasingly desperate dream of freedom.

It’s a grim march through America, but there’s a love story at the heart of the game that provides hope. John Marston and his wife Abigail represent a potential path forward, and it’s that story that eventually leads to the plot of the original Red Dead Redemption.

Player shops are officially coming to Fallout 76

Fallout 76 is getting a long promised feature in May 7’s Patch Nine: player vending. Players will be able to set up official vending machines in their CAMPs, which work just like any NPC vendor. While player trading has always been in the game since launch, it currently works through an awkward UI that requires both players to stand next to each other and fiddle with prices and offers. The upcoming player vending system will allow for a much more organic way to trade and get new gear. Not only is this a better way to accumulate gear and caps, but it also opens up fun roleplay opportunities in Appalachia.

Once the patch releases, Players can build a vending machine at their CAMP, then assign items to it and choose the cap price for each one of their wares. Those items will remain in their stash with a vending icon next to them, and players will receive a notification when the item is purchased. Players will receive 90% of each sale, with 10% disappearing into the ether.

F1 2019 adds F2 to career mode, launches two months earlier

Two pieces of legitimately great news for motorsports video gamers: Not only is Codemasters’ next F1 game launching two months earlier than usual, it’s adding the Formula 2 Championship, which by itself should add plenty of depth to the game’s time vortex of a career mode.

F2, not F1, got to share the good news on Monday, noting that this will be the 10th anniversary of the video game series under Codemasters. F2’s chief executive confirmed that series’ drivers and teams will be a part of the game, and that players will be able to race alongside them (in the 2018 season) before climbing the ladder to Formula One.

Next week’s Destiny 2 patch fixes bugs, changes up an Exotic

In its weekly blog, Bungie revealed an upcoming patch for Destiny 2. Set for May 7, the new patch will solve several of the game’s major bugs, including one that impedes progress on Xur’s new questline. The Arbalest Exotic will also join the general loot pool for players after The Revelry ends.

Patch 2.2.2 will add no new content to Destiny 2. Instead, it will fix issues like players not earning Dreaming City lore after an Ascendant Challenge. There are also several bugs with the way certain abilities interact with enemies. Combination Blow, Warlock’s Blink, and Chaos Reach abilities will see fixes on May 7.
