A new Pokémon Rumble game is headed to mobile

There’s a brand new free-to-play Pokémon game coming to mobile devices soon — unless you’re in Australia, in which case it’s out already. Pokémon Rumble Rush features real-time battles where players send their monsters rushing toward enemy Pokémon.

The first Pokémon Rumble game was released in 2009 on WiiWare and since then the series has popped up on a few different Nintendo platforms. This new entry in the series will send players to explore various uncharted islands where Pokémon can be defeated or befriended.

Square Enix says ‘Project Prelude Rune’ is canceled, and the studio behind it shut down

Square Enix has cancelled its upcoming role-playing game, which had the working title “Project Prelude Rune.” In a statement provided to Polygon, the publisher says the team behind it, called Studio Istolia, has been disbanded and its staff reallocated.

Project Prelude Rune and Studio Istolia were both announced in February 2017, along with some early concept art. The game was to tell a story “unfolding across a vast land teeming with life” where “nurtured by the earth, the many peoples of this land dare to dream, fighting for what is just.” Early concept art showed a lush, forested landscape with floating islands and massive skyboxes populated by flying dragons.

Saints Row: The Third on Switch is a disappointment

Saints Row: The Third on Switch is a disappointment

Saints Row: The Third was an unexpected gem in 2011, a comparably progressive and slapstick riff on the Grand Theft Auto formula. Last week, Koch Media released a port for the Nintendo Switch. The result is a disappointment, but that’s not entirely the port’s fault.

The folks at Digital Foundry have done a fantastic job comparing this version to its nearly eight-year-old siblings. The results are a mixed-bag. The team found that the Switch port approaches parity with the original PS3 and Xbox versions of the game, particularly in 720p resolution in handheld mode. It doesn’t fare nearly as well in docked mode, as the 1080p resolution decreases the game’s already poor frame rate.

The Division 2’s newest patch sets the stage for the first raid

The Division 2’s first raid is almost here. After a multi-week delay, Operation Dark Hour will land on live servers May 16. Players don’t know what to expect from a Division raid, but it’s the activity fans have been preparing for for months.

The new raid update also impacts the rest of The Division 2. There is a new vendor for crafters, new commendations to earn, and a host of balance changes. For Year 1 Pass holders, the first wave of Classified Missions also go live in this patch.

World of Warcraft: Classic set to launch on August 27

World of Warcraft fans who remember the original iteration of the game — or are ready to experience it for the first time — can jump in on August 27. World of Warcraft: Classic will be included for all World of Warcraft subscriptions. It’s set to roll out in stages that slowly introduce all of the appropriate raid content to allow for a similar endgame to the original progression of the game.

This version of World of Warcraft is as much an archival project as a game for players. All original stories, assets and models will remain the same. There will be some changes to lighting and bug fixes, but overall this will be the exact same experience as loading up the game up 15 years ago. That means Night Elf Sylvanas, no Blood Elves, and an exclusive class for each faction (Shaman for Horde, Paladin for Alliance).

Red Dead Online to introduce a full role-playing system this summer

Red Dead Online has announced a new surprise update today, and Rockstar also shared future additions that will be in the works throughout the rest of the spring and summer. The largest announcement here is the future addition of ‘roles’, which allow players to pick a specialization and level up that role within the frontier.

It’s an intriguing contrast to Grand Theft Auto Online, where players focus on the acquisition of property and wealth. Here, Rockstar has chosen to make the real progression path centered around player choice and abilities.

Red Dead Online adds more of a co-op campaign, cuts down on griefing

Red Dead Online is still in its beta process. So far most of those upgrades have been incremental, like more cosmetics to unlock or new showdown modes. Today, Rockstar announced the most sweeping update yet, which expands on the co-op campaign, expands free roam, and even adds poker for a little flavor.

This update is intended to “strengthen and stabilize the foundational world of the Red Dead Online experience”, and notes that more updates of this scale will be coming.

We already know some of this patch’s improvements, including Offensive and Defensive playing styles that cut down on griefing and allow for a more tranquil experience. There’s also an overhaul of the Hostility system plus a lot more to cover.

Someone put Undertale’s Sans fight in Fortnite, and it’s amazing

Someone put Undertale’s Sans fight in Fortnite, and it’s amazing

The deathrun community is home to some of the most creative Fortnite players around. Case in point: this new Undertale tribute map that replicates the notorious difficulty of the Sans battle.

As veteran Undertale fans know, the “genocide” route of the RPG pits players against the hoody-wearing skeleton at the end of the game. It’s a memorable fight, not only because it’s Sans — a beloved character — but because the boss battle is epic. Megalovania, the track that plays during the showdown, has gone down as one of the best songs in video game history.

Monster Hunter: World has a free trial for the next week

On May 9, Capcom began a free Monster Hunter: World trial for PlayStation 4 players. Until May 20, players can download a free demo of the game and experience the opening hours.

Players start with character creation and can play through most of the story missions through Hunter Rank 4. Save data will also carry over to the full version of the game, if players decide to buy it after the trial. The trial also doesn’t restrict players from grouping up with friends that have the full version of Monster Hunter: World.
