The entrance to World of Warcraft’s Eternal Palace raid is an underwater roller coaster

World of Warcraft: Battle for Azeroth’s Rise of Azshara patch is out now, and it offers players an underwater foray into Azeroth’s core. Queen Azshara, one of the series’ oldest villains, is the patch’s big bad, and the final boss in the upcoming Eternal Palace raid.

While the raid isn’t out yet, one of World of Warcraft’s more famous raiders and Twitch streamers, Sloot, found the entrance to the new raid. Getting to the entrance of the Eternal Palace is a bit more interesting than the usual affair of walking into a portal.

Respawn reveals first details on Apex Legends’ ranked mode

Respawn announced the addition of a ranked mode to Apex Legends at EA Play 2019. The idea behind the ranked mode is to create better quality games, by matching together players of similar skill levels. But until today we didn’t have many details on how the mode would actually work. On Monday, the day before season 2 launches, Respawn released a post detailing how Apex Legends’ ranked mode will work.

The mode will have six different Leagues that players will have the chance to climb through. Each rank will have four divisions. Every player will start out in Bronze IV, the lowest rank and the lowest division. From there players will have to earn Ranked Points (RP) to rank up. The ranked Leagues start at Bronze and go to Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond, and end at Apex Predator, which has no divisions.

How The Sims 4’s Island Living team built secret mermaids and better jobs

The first time The Sims 4 team tested out mermaids for the game’s upcoming expansion, things immediately went haywire. The first mermaid, a “crazy fish face dude” according to the producer who created him, summoned a thunderstorm in public. The game world turned into chaotic mayhem, with Sims dying in the water, stripping naked, and descending into complete panic as a result.

In the final product, mermaids aren’t total agents of chaos anymore. Actually, Island Living aims to be a well-balanced machine that introduces a number of features to the game, such as a new world and career, and improved gameplay systems. Sulani, the new neighboorhood, has three distinct islands, a volcano, and tons of ocean-themed collectibles. The expansion pack is a solid addition to the world of The Sims 4, and it manages to achieve this by balancing a fine line between the supernatural and the mundane.

Luigi wins Mario Maker 2 levels by doing absolutely nothing

How many hours have you spent learning how to run and jump through Mario levels? You absolute fool. Let Luigi show you how it’s done.

If you’re confused: It’s become a meme to have Luigi participate in a multiplayer game, stand completely still, and yet come out on top. Luigi has won everything from Mario Party to Smash Bros. without lifting a finger. And now he’s back to do the same in Super Mario Maker 2.

The next Hearthstone expansion is Saviors of Uldum

When players last went through a Hearthstone expansion, they helped the League of EVIL take the magical floating city of Dalaran in Rise of Shadows. The next expansion is a direct sequel to that narrative, and it is called Saviors of Uldum. Saviors of Uldum will launch on Aug. 6.

Saviors of Uldum will include 135 new cards. Uldum was introduced in World of Warcraft: Cataclysm, and is an Egyptian-themed zone that hides Titan constructions beneath its sands. Uldum is under attack by the League of EVIL and the stolen, magical city of Dalaran. Hence, the titular saviors of Uldum are tasked with stopping the League from stealing powerful Titan technology.

Bungie shows off Destiny’s first healing hand cannon

Over the past nine months, Bungie’s added four different Exotic hand cannons to Destiny 2. In a new trailer the studio released today, Bungie showed off the fifth. But this new hand cannon, Lumina, is the series’ first ever support weapon.

Lumina is the first Destiny Exotic to focus mainly on healing allies — although it can deal damage to enemies as well. The trailer shows off gameplay of various teammates using the weapon’s Exotic perk, Noble Rounds.

It’s 2019 and I’m still learning new things about Breath of the Wild

Over the past year, I’ve started following more than a dozen social media accounts dedicated to one thing: finding new Breath of the Wild glitches. Most of these exploits are small, unremarkable: something where it shouldn’t be; or Link doing something odd. But every so often, Breath of the Wild glitch hunters develop incredible finds.

Take this recent beauty, for instance. Twitter user usapanda_G takes a mine cart contraption, and uses it to electrify multiple enemies at once. I had no idea this was possible.

Alan Wake developer Remedy Entertainment regains publishing rights

Publishing rights for the Alan Wake series of games has reverted back to the original developer, Remedy Entertainment. The announcement was made in an official news release for investors, which also notes a one-time, €2.5 million windfall. No word on what this could mean for a remake of the original game or a proper sequel.

The first game in the series, Alan Wake, was released in 2010 as an Xbox 360 exclusive. The supernatural thriller focused on the adventures of a famous novelist in the fictional town of Bright Falls, Washington. It was divided internally into six “episodes,” and featured two additional downloadable expansions referred to as “specials.” There was also a spinoff called Alan Wake’s American Nightmare, published in 2012, also for the Xbox 360. Both titles are now available on Windows PC.

Void Bastards: new challenge modes soon, DLC after that

Void Bastards’ creators have begun talking about post-launch support, Ta month after the game’s well received release on PC and Xbox One. Immediately on deck are some challenge modes, which Blue Manchu promises will be free to everyone.

“We’re still ironing out the details, but expect challenges like: stealthing your way past super tough enemies, being forced to rely on amped-up authorization skills to take over ship systems, and managing a super fast but hard-to-control client,” developers said by way of the game’s Steam page yesterday.

A Link to the Past, Super Metroid can merge into one game — and even share items

A Link to the Past, Super Metroid can merge into one game — and even share items

Summer Games Done Quick closed out yesterday afternoon with quite an unusual mashup: Super Metroid and The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past on Super Nintendo. Randomizers are mods in which all of the items in a game are redistributed to different locations, effectively creating a new puzzle for players to solve. This one does that, but for two games, that then play as one game. Cooperatively, even.

If all that puzzles you, well, you’re not the only one. Just watch and try to follow along the commentary from Andy and Ivan. But yes, that’s Samus and Link carrying around objects from one game in the other’s world. These two are playing the same game cooperatively, with the goal of killing both Ganon and Mother Brain before finishing the story of either original game.
