Halo co-creator teases new sci-fi shooter Disintegration

Disintegration is a new sci-fi, first-person shooter from V1 Interactive, the independent development studio co-founded by Marcus Lehto, former creative director at Bungie and co-creator of the Halo universe. A teaser for the game, revealed on Thursday, promises more details on the upcoming title at Gamescom in August.

The teaser doesn’t offer much to go on, other than some moody music and some peeks at what appears to be a heavily armed spaceship or personal spacecraft.

Codemasters’ Grid races again in October

With Grid coming back in October (just Grid, no sequel number or subtitle) it’ll be a hat trick for Codemasters, launching all three of its major racing series in the same year for the first time since 2013. It’ll be the Grid/TOCA series’ debut on this console generation, too.

Grid is Codies’ touring car franchise, alongside the Dirt (rally) and F1 (self explanatory) series. We last saw it in 2014 with Grid Autosport. This Grid reboot will put players in muscle cars like the Pontiac Firebird Modified and the Chevrolet Camaro SSX Concept. From the gameplay trailer put out today, the game takes drivers to locales such as Havana, San Francisco, and Shaoxing, China’s Zhejiang International Circuit.

Judgment localizers want catcalling scene to feel ‘gross’ for players

Scott Strichart, senior localization producer at Sega of America, still remembers watching that viral YouTube video where a woman chronicles 10 hours of walking around in New York. While the clip is less than two minutes long, her trek across the city consists of nonstop, wall-to-wall verbal harassment. The men have no idea who the woman is, but they feel entitled to make comments on her appearance left and right. When he was watching it, Strichart had no idea that he’d later have to bring a similar scene to life in a video game.

Strichart’s job requires him to adapt Japanese video games for Western audiences. It’s not enough to simply translate dialogue word for word: Strichart has to consider the meaning, spirit, and cultural context of a scene. The wrong word choice can change the entire nature of a sentence, if not the game as a whole. It’s not a light job, especially as video game audiences bring more scrutiny than ever before to how video games differ across markets.

Bans coming for Rainbow Six Siege chat cheaters

Bans coming for Rainbow Six Siege chat cheaters

If you cheated in Rainbow Six Siege by spamming the shooter’s chat window with garbage, you’re in deep crap. Bans are coming for that today.

The recently discovered exploit could either crash the game or make opposing players’ games severely lag, to the point they’d be forced to quit matches. This was, obviously, very disruptive to the game’s ranked competition. It became a serious enough problem to warrant a patch (deployed on Tuesday) and now the wave of bans as Ubisoft Montreal sorts out who used it and how severely they should be punished.

New Super Monkey Ball title leaks via rating board

Sega is bringing the Super Monkey Ball franchise back with a new title for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Windows PC, according to a listing from Taiwan’s Digital Game Rating Committee. Sega has not officially announced the new Super Monkey Ball game and a Sega of America spokesperson said the company does not comment on rumors and speculation.

The unannounced game is titled Tabegoro! Super Monkey Ball in Japanese. Tabegoro means “ripe” or “ready to eat,” which would clearly tie into the banana-collecting themes of the Monkey Ball franchise. Sega reportedly registered a trademark in Japan for Tabegoro! Super Monkey Ball back in May.

What happened when a Fallout 76 fan pretended to be a beggar

Andreslamantis, a 36-year-old from Argentina, knew that Fallout 76 players were known for being helpful, as many take it upon themselves to be the NPCs of the wasteland. But how far would a player go to help a fellow comrade out? Andreslamantis tested this out with a special build where he could not meaningfully craft, mod, or scavenge — all he could do was rely on other players.

He was, in short, role-playing as a beggar, tattered clothes and all. Andreslamantis set up shop in Flatwoods, where both low-level players and veterans like to congregate. Here, he lies down on an empty mattress and waits for people to come by. He has put up a “Free Hugs” sign by his humble abode, in the hopes of drawing attention to his self-imposed situation.

Mario Maker 2 master makes upside-down kaizo level, and it’s horrifying

Kaizo levels are famed for being the most grueling courses that Mario fans can play — and that’s with a normal perspective. With the release of Super Mario Maker 2, which gives players unusual tools to craft levels, expert fans are trying out things that we’ve never seen before. Take, for instance, this Kaizo level that is played entirely upside down.

I made an upside-down Kaizo level. Please don't play this.
