Super Mega Baseball 2 comes to Nintendo Switch next week

Super Mega Baseball 2 is launching on Nintendo Switch on July 25 as Super Mega Baseball 2: Ultimate Edition, developer Metalhead Software announced Thursday. The arcade-ish, unlicensed but very entertaining sports series has been a favorite of Polygon’s sports writers since the first game debuted in 2014.

Super Mega Baseball 2: Ultimate Edition, which bundles two more ballparks and five post-launch cosmetic packs, will also launch for PlayStation 4, Windows PC (via Steam), and Xbox One for the same price, $29.99. (The original game will see a price cut, as will its à la carte DLC.)

Classic indie platformer Limbo is free at the Epic Games Store this week

The latest free game hitting the Epic Game Store is Limbo, the indie platformer best known for its eerie ambiance and an ending as polarizing as The Sopranos.

The black-and-white 2D side-scroller utilizes classic platformer mechanics, but the visuals and sounds are haunting, and deaths (which come often) are gruesome. Limbo follows a young boy searching for his sister in a mysterious forest full of traps and monsters, including the creepiest spider I’ve ever seen in a video game.

Fallout 76’s next big event is all about getting that meat

Bethesda is introducing a new summer event to Fallout 76 that’s all about collecting meat for one of the game’s few non-robot NPCs and helping him grill it up. It sounds like some lighthearted fun, even though the excitement to hang out with a Super Mutant and cook meat is tempered by a series of bugs introduced by the most recent patch. Bethesda’s latest Inside the Vault announcement goes into both of these issues, and gives some details on how players can earn cookout-themed cosmetics.

Patch 11 was one of the regular content rollouts that have started since Wild Appalachia, the first Fallout 76 content update. However, this new patch ended up causing issues, including power armor bugs and a lack of legendary drops. A hotfix is being released that prevents the lack of legendary drops, and a further fix will be instituted to ensure that the correct creatures are marked as legendary.

EA announces Plants vs. Zombies 3

The popular Plants vs. Zombies series is coming back with Plants vs. Zombies 3, publisher Electronic Arts announced this week. The announcement didn’t reveal many details on the game, so no news yet on whether our lawn defense in this version will be pollinator-friendly or not. All we know is that the pre-alpha version of Plants vs. Zombies 3 launched this week on the Google Play store. EA hasn’t given a final release date yet.

Per PopCap, the pre-alpha is free-to-play with no microtransactions. The official release will also be free-to-play. EA didn’t comment on whether the final game will include microtransactions, but the Google Play store entry lists in-app purchases.

The upcoming Wanderlust is a chill way to travel without leaving your desk

The upcoming Wanderlust is a chill way to travel without leaving your desk

It’s only within the last few years that I started traveling for work, and I’ve never had the chance to go backpacking across Europe or spend days bussing around Thailand. Wanderlust: Travel Stories, a narrative game coming to Windows PC (via Steam) and iOS on Aug. 28 for $19.99, is likely the closest thing I’ll have to that experience without spending a few thousand dollars and booking time off.

My time with the game’s demo chapter was both relaxing and a little stressful, as Wanderlust captures more than just the tourist experience of traveling on a ferry or floating on a hotel pool. It also highlights some of the little stresses and friction that come from traveling to a new place with a purpose in mind.

Overwatch comics are getting a mobile makeover, coming to Snapchat

Snapchat is best known for selfie filters and group messages, but its developers are partnering with Blizzard for a new content initiative. Overwatch will be coming to Snapchat via a new weekly feature called “Overwatch Comics.”

These Overwatch comics will draw from the existing archive of comics created and published, but will use Madefire’s animation technology to be a little more dynamic and action-oriented. These comics will premiere on July 18 on Snapchat’s Discover page.
