Super Mario Maker 2’s course upload limit doubles

Would-be world-builders in Super Mario Maker 2 got a welcome bit of news from Nintendo: the course upload limit has been doubled, to 64. And it’ll go up again later.

Players got the news this week in an in-game notice. Apparently, creating and sharing more than two dozen levels isn’t just a power-user thing. Who knew? The roomier upload library might also be helpful for the brand-extension efforts of certain food-service establishments.

Avengers: Endgame bloopers are the best kind of bloopers

Captain America never complains. Chris Evans ... is not Captain America. And if Cap’s helmet sucks, he’s not afraid to say it.

“I can’t believe I made a whole movie with this thing on,” he grumbles midway through a new snippet of the Avengers: Endgame blooper reel.

Report: Nintendo will fix Joy-Cons for free, offer refunds

Nintendo’s policy toward customer reports of “Joy-Con drift” is to offer a free repair, according to an internal memo obtained and reported by Vice.

The memo, which Vice said it had seen, says customers are not required to provide proof of purchase and support representatives don’t have to check if the product is under warranty. Customers may also request a refund if they paid to repair their controllers, too. “Confirm the prior repair and then issue a refund,” says the memo, according to Vice.

Twitch streamer shuts down trolls and sets boundaries in the best way

Amber “PaladinAmber” Wadham, a 23-year-old variety streamer hailing from Australia, has been making waves for something unexpected: roasting viewers who cross the line. Through the use of multiple cameras and genius overlays, Wadham pretends to go into breaking news segments and infomercials just to tell her viewers to chill out a bit.

If you ever wade into Twitch, then you’ve probably seen exactly what Wadham has to suffer from time to time. Inconsiderate assholes will ask women on Twitch if they can have sex, if they can show more cleavage, or if they can do something risque for the camera. Other times, the requests aren’t as suggestive but still manage to be annoying. Entitled viewers will demand that streamers play a different game, stop talking, or critique the talent of the personality.

New Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark trailer reveals an original monster

As if the monsters from the book weren’t frightening enough, the team behind Scary Stories to Tell In the Dark revealed a new trailer featuring their original monster: The Jangly Man. Executive producer Guillermo del Toro says that Jangly Man is a composite of a few of the Stephen Gammell illustrations from the original Scary Stories books.

“The difficulty with this was to not do a normal decomposing corpse that you’ve seen a million times, but to truly try to give it evil,” del Toro said during a panel at San Diego Comic-Con. As you can see from the truly upsetting trailer, Jangly Man stitches himself together, taking on a unified but twisted final form. The creature was played by contortionist Troy James.

Overwatch artist says Sigma has bare feet due to mental illness

Overwatch’s latest hero, Sigma, was introduced to the world as an astrophysicist who goes mad while studying black holes. One thing that stood out to fans at the time was that Sigma was floating around with bare feet for seemingly unexplained reasons — but recent comments by a Blizzard developer reveal that the two details are actually related.

Over at ArtStation, a website where artists can display their work for fans and recruiters, Blizzard character artist Qiu Fang recently uploaded Sigma’s concept art. “I had an AMAZING time working on this,” they note in the caption for the piece.

Switch hacker makes beautiful custom themes, complete with animations

A hacker called JBGBeats, known within the homebrew scene as NSX, made a series of beautiful home screens for the Nintendo Switch. Unlike the Nintendo 3DS, the Switch has yet to receive customized home screens. As a result, hackers like NSX have filled the void. His themes are inspired from a variety of sources like TV shows and video games; some notable examples include Final Fantasy 7, Star Wars, Neon Genesis Evangelion, and Stranger Things. A video from The Homebrew Crew showed off around a dozen custom home screens in action and the animations look great.

The demos look incredible. These aren’t just wallpapers, but redesigns of the entire home screen. Each digital skin features custom icons, icon animations, dedicated wallpapers for each option screen, and completely reorganized home pages. It is a lot more customization than choosing between a white or a black theme, to say the least.

Dragon Quest Builders 2 players can’t get over how villagers poop

Dragon Quest Builders 2 players can’t get over how villagers poop

As the name implies, Dragon Quest Builders 2 allows players to develop locales through the use of a crafting system. You break resources down, and then use those materials to build other, grander things — for yourself, but also for villagers that you recruit onto your lands.

Villagers will make requests for specific things, and once you make that thing, they’ll use it. This is a great detail, as it means that players will become invested in the livelihoods of their citizens. I’ve definitely spent way too much time making something elaborate for a cute villager. The thing is, just because you put effort into making something doesn’t mean the recipients will make the best use of it.

Mario Maker 2 is the perfect game for the age of YouTube and Twitch

Just this week, there was that footage of a player miraculously avoiding dozens upon dozens of hammers, which has been watched nearly 1.6 million times.

Sigma goes live on Overwatch test servers today — here’s the new tank’s kit

Hero 31, Sigma, has arrived on the Overwatch test realm, meaning that PC players can now test out the new tank. Sigma is a scientist whose experiments gave him both potent gravity-based powers and serious psychological damage. After being locked away, Talon has freed him and now use him as a weapon.

Sigma is a tank who relies on creating shields around the battlefield and thwarting damage heroes. Here’s a breakdown of his kit:
