New Anthem patch finally adds endgame Cataclysm activity

On Tuesday, BioWare updated Anthem to patch 1.3.0. This long awaited update adds a host of new features, including the Cataclysm activity for players.

Alongside a new mission, the Cataclysm is the biggest addition in this update. BioWare describes the activity as a mode that evolves over time and emphasizes teamwork. Players can work together through various modifiers to earn seasonal currency and climb the leaderboards.

Mortal Kombat 11 dev: Hackers have taken over the leaderboards

NetherRealm Studios, long-time developer of several popular fighting games, admits that it’s investigating a string of online attacks against Mortal Kombat 11 customers. It appears that at least one determined hacker is using distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks to manipulate the leaderboards on PlayStation 4. There are also reports of personal threats, including several alleged instances of players whose home addresses have been posted online.

The situation was confirmed by NetherRealm yesterday evening on Twitter.

Fortnite players immediately discover how to build inside Tilted Town

The biggest thing in Fortnite’s latest update has to be the addition of Tilted Town, an old-west take on the most popular spot on the island. The twist is that you can’t build while standing inside of Tilted Town — there can only be shootouts. It’s a good idea that shakes up the Fortnite everyone knows and loves, and it’s typically a game that relies heavily on building. Too bad players have already figured out how to undo the new limitation.

On social media, Fortnite players are sharing a variety of methods that allow you to step into Tilted Town with your building abilities intact. There are two methods that we’re aware of. The first involves building a platform right outside the edge of town, like so:

Fortnite’s latest patch sends Tilted Towers back to the Old West

The first content update for Fortnite season X is sending Tilted Towers back in time. Along with transporting part of the map back to the Old West, this update to patch v10.00 also adds the new Automatic Sniper Rifle to the game as well as adding in a fan favorite game mode from other shooters.

The patch’s biggest addition is turning Neo Tilted into Tilted Town, an Old West styles town complete with a saloon, a gunsmith and a sepia color-filter. The town also includes unvaulted, western-themed weapons like the Double Barrel Shotgun, the Infantry Rifle, the Six Shooter, and the Hunting Rifle. Perhaps the most jarring change about Tilted Town is that you can’t harvest or build inside it.

Fornite has become much more than just a battle royale game

Fornite has become much more than just a battle royale game

Grace was only two when she started fighting leukemia. The blonde-haired toddler was a fighter, to be sure — at six months, she needed to have heart surgery — but even so, nothing could prepare her for the realities of chemotherapy. “It was horrible to witness her on the two strongest drugs and be in such pain,” her dad, Sean Noell, told Polygon. During this period, the two would watch Disney’s Frozen hundreds of times. Noell loved watching Grace light up as Elsa and Anna sang “Do You Want to Build a Snowman?”

For a while, Noell was a battle royale player, much like the millions of people who log into Fortnite every day. But over time, the island started feeling a little too ruthless for Noell. He couldn’t jump in and just casually enjoy the game anymore, it was too hardcore now. But instead of giving up the game outright, he started dabbling in Creative Mode. Something about Creative Mode’s endless possibilities to make and play the game in new ways drew him in. One day, he began playing around with Fortnite’s winter assets, spending hours lining up the columns and archways that made up Elsa’s castle getaway in the movie. It was an approximation of the real building, but when he showed it to Grace, she was over the moon.

Janemba and Gogeta are coming to Dragon Ball FighterZ

Janemba and Gogeta are coming to Dragon Ball FighterZ

Dragon Ball’s ultimate incarnation of evil, Janemba, is on his way to Dragon Ball FighterZ. Janemba’s arrival to the game was announced just after FighterZ’s Grand Finals at Evo 2019. The announcement came in a trailer that showed off some of the demon’s abilities, and let fans know that he would be coming out on Aug. 8. The trailer also teased the arrival of Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan (SSGSS) Gogeta, who’ll arrive at a later date.

Janemba’s fighting style appears to be heavily influenced by his appearance in the Dragon Ball Z: Fusion Reborn movie. While none of his moves were specifically outlined in the trailer, he appears to use his trademark portals to misdirect his opponents and unleash attacks from a variety of different angles. The trailer gives us a brief glimpse of Janemba in his base form, the round yellow monster, but it appears that most, if not all, of his time in fights will be spent in his more recognizable red and purple Super form.

I suck at Fire Emblem’s tea parties, and it’s the best

I suck at Fire Emblem’s tea parties, and it’s the best

Fire Emblem: Three Houses lets you spend quality time with your students: You can cook a meal, join them in choir, or give pupils personalized instruction. But screw all of that. I’ve been using most of my free time in the game to brew tea and speak of the finer things in life with my favorite Three Houses characters.

Three Houses introduces a new mechanic called Tea Time, where players can sit down and have a one-on-one conversation with a student, complete with beverage and snack accompaniments. You can pick the type of tea you’d like to make, which your pal will react to. Then you’re given three opportunities to strike up conversation. Each conversation has three options, ranging from serious to silly and mundane. If you pick good options, your relationship with that student improves, and your charisma stat increases. Also, the game gives you the option to get up close and personal with your students, in case you want to admire the new 3D art.

Smash Bros. player barred from tournament after match fixing admission

Zack “CaptainZack” Lauth, a top Smash Bros. player known for his Bayonetta skills and dancing antics, announced on Twitter that he will not be allowed to compete in the upcoming Smash Con tournament. The news comes in the heels of a larger controversy, where Lauth, 17, claims that he asked a former pro to throw matches at big tournaments.

Elliot “Ally” Carroza-Oyarce, 28, used to be a pro competitor in the Smash Bros. circuit, until he revealed that he had pursued a relationship with Lauth while he was underage. Carroza-Oyarce admitted the relationship and consequently retired from the scene.
