Riot must let workers talk to ‘unlawful workplace’ investigators, California says

League of Legends developer Riot Games has been accused by California regulators that the game maker hasn’t properly told its workers’ of their rights to participate in an ongoing investigation and lawsuit against the company. The California Department of Fair Employment and Housing, which also filed suit against Activision Blizzard in July, released a statement Monday (PDF) that said Riot has delayed informing its employees of their rights for two months.

Riot was ordered to send a notice to its employees on June 4 — to issue a memo that “advise[d] workers of their right to speak freely with the government about unlawful workplace practices” without fear of retaliation, regardless of non-disclosure or settlement agreements. DFEH asked the court for Riot to make clear to its employees about their rights after the government body had acquired a number of settlement agreements made in the past.

I’ve seen Tifa with short hair and I can’t go back

It used to be that long locks were the most desired trait of princesses everywhere, but it seems like Tifa Lockhart, Cloud Strife’s beloved friend from Final Fantasy 7, has taken that ideal and punched it into a million pieces.

Over the weekend, the hashtag #TifaShortHair started a trend on Twitter, in which fans of Square Enix’s classic JRPG posted fan art and renders of Tifa with short hair. Usually her hair is long — like really long — hanging well past her hips before it is gathered in a ribbon. Now, these images show her with a variety of haircuts and styles for short-hair, even bobs.

Dead by Daylight Hellraiser DLC teased, Stranger Things content going away

Dead by Daylight Hellraiser DLC teased, Stranger Things content going away

Horror game Dead by Daylight’s next chapter will apparently bring the Hellraiser film franchise into the fold, based on a series of teases from developer Behaviour Interactive. That will likely mean the addition of Pinhead (aka the Hell Priest, aka Xipe Totec), the lead Cenobite of Clive Barker’s sadomasochistic demon gang, as the next Dead by Daylight killer.

Behaviour Interactive’s teases have quickly been deciphered by the Dead by Daylight community. The studio sneaked the letters R-A-I-S-E into a series of tweets and images over the past week, and the letters H-E-L-L into an audio file recently posted to Discord. A video teaser released Friday also subtly hints at Hellraiser, showing staticky, VHS-style footage of flower blossoms that evokes a scene from the original Hellraiser movie from 1987.

Black Panther can summon the god of all panthers in Marvel’s Avengers

Crystal Dynamics and Square Enix dropped a detailed video about Marvel’s Avengers’ War for Wakanda expansion during a livestream on Monday. The new War Table presentation gives players a look at what Black Panther can do in Marvel’s Avengers.

T’Challa will finally become a playable character in Marvel’s Avengers on Aug. 17, bringing the roster of playable heroes to nine. Black Panther is a melee-based character and can double jump to help him traverse the environment quickly. Unlike Kate Bishop and Clint Barton — who shared some baseline gameplay similarities — Black Panther is a completely unique hero.

Call of Duty: Vanguard officially announced, to be revealed in Warzone

Activision released a new teaser trailer for Call of Duty: Vanguard, officially announcing the next game in the series after a series of leaks. Players will get a first look at this year’s Call of Duty game on Aug. 19, during a special event inside Call of Duty: Warzone called the Battle of Verdansk.

The first trailer for Call of Duty: Vanguard opens with a montage of battlefields that centers on World War II. There’s a sniper’s nest that appears to be in or near Russia, a desert battlefield, a German forest, and a beach littered with destroyed aircraft. Each one of these areas features a face somewhere in the landscape, and sometimes a name (Petrova in Cyrillic, Sgt. Kingsley), hinting at characters that will be in the game. It’s also possible that these characters are the same four from the game’s official art at the end of the trailer.

Christopher Judge’s Black Panther was always going to be unique

“My mom’s always right,” Christopher Judge told me in an interview ahead of his starring role as King T’Challa, the Black Panther, in Marvel’s Avengers’ upcoming War for Wakanda expansion.

Crystal Dynamics and Square Enix announced that Judge — known as the voice of Kratos in 2018’s God of War and as Teal’c in Stargate SG-1 — would play Black Panther in an Entertainment Weekly interview in mid-July. In the article, Judge revealed that he initially turned down the opportunity to voice T’Challa, believing that nobody could do the role justice after Chadwick Boseman. But his mother, as well as his children, convinced him otherwise. On the other side of the experience, Judge told me he felt fortunate and blessed to be able to play T’Challa in Crystal Dynamics’ video game adaptation.

Cyberpunk 2077’s next patch makes resetting perks much cheaper

Cyberpunk 2077s next big patch, labeled 1.3, is expected to launch soon. On Monday, developer CD Projekt Red teased a trio of changes which should be exciting for dedicated players. It also includes a fix to an early game quest that has been frustrating players for a while now. The in-fiction announcement was made on social media, and includes a fairly obtuse description of what to expect. Here’s the gist of what’s on the way.

First, the minimap while driving appears to show slightly more of the road ahead of you than it did before. That should make navigating — especially at high speeds — a lot easier.

Guilty Gear Strive kicks off pumpkin spice season with new fighter Jack-O’

Jack-O’ Valentine is coming to Guilty Gear Strive at the end of August, developer Arc System Works announced Sunday. Jack-O’ will be the second playable fighter included as part of the fighting game’s first season pass, following alien-coffin-wielding military man Goldlewis Dickinson’s release in July.

Guilty Gear fans are already quite familiar with Jack-O’. She was added as a playable character in 2016’s Guilty Gear Xrd Revelator, and in Strive, she’ll fight using her jack-o’-lantern-themed ball and chain, and a trio of summonable minions. You can see her in action in the trailer above.
