Travis Strikes Again gets a PS4 and PC launch date

Travis Strikes Again: No More Heroes has a launch date on PlayStation 4 and Windows PC: Oct. 17. The third game in Suda51’s eclectic series launched in January on Nintendo Switch.

The sequel arrives nine years after No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle for the Wii. Travis Strikes Again varies from its predecessors in switching from a third-person to a top-down view, and paired with the lightsaber-like Beam Katana the resulting hack-and-slash gameplay is much more arcadelike.

Nintendo exchanging some Switch consoles to new model with better battery life

Nintendo is giving some Switch owners the option to trade in their recently purchased systems for the latest revision of the console that offers improved battery life. But the offer to upgrade to the latest model of the Nintendo Switch appears to be limited to customers who purchased the original version of the Switch on or after July 17, the same day Nintendo announced the system update.

News of the exchange program originated on Reddit, where user DarthMewtwo said, “Nintendo told me if you bought your Switch after July 17th 2019, they can exchange it for the new upgraded model for free.”

New deleted scene from Super Mario Bros. movie unearthed

The folks at Super Mario Bros. The Movie Archive have taken on the massive task of updating and re-releasing the Super Mario Bros. movie, complete with some newly found deleted scenes. While the site has several of these deleted scenes that it hasn’t shown yet, it did put just one of them on YouTube on Thursday afternoon.

The scene shows Mario and Luigi arriving at a job site at the Riverfront Cafe, only to realize that rival plumbers Doug and Mike are already there. In the original film, Mario and Luigi leave after their discovery, but in this deleted scene they confront the other plumbers, who barely appear later in the movie.

Apex Legends has a new Octane skin available through Twitch Prime

Apex Legends has, once again, partnered with Twitch to give players a new skin. This time around the new skin is for Octane, and it’s available to anyone who has Twitch Prime.

The new Octane skin, called Whiplash, seems to fit into a similar armor style as some of the other skins from the game’s recent Iron Crown event. The skin is red and black, with gold accents and lettering and features all the extra grenades and rockets that Octane wouldn’t be caught dead without.

Beating this Super Mario Maker 2 level is harder than winning the lottery

To upload a level to Super Mario Maker 2, one must be able to beat it. Creator PangaeaPanga did just that, but you have a better chance of winning the lottery. Maybe play that instead? It pays better.

Cyber Security 101: Brute Force is a puzzle level whose object is “guess the number I’m thinking of,” and, by the way, that’s a number between zero and 99,999,999. And there are two of these eight-digit numbers. So on the off-off-off-off-off chance you get the first one right, congratulations, you are halfway there.

Tencent’s new mobile game looks like Overwatch, but even more anime

Overwatch, Blizzard’s team hero shooter, has been trucking along since its launch in 2016. Now, the largest gaming company in the world, China-based Tencent, is taking its own swing at a mobile version of Overwatch. Ace Force is an original IP, with an anime art style and a cast of characters. Fans of Overwatch will recognize quite a lot from the gameplay in this trailer, from unleashing powerful abilities like a barrage of rockets to capturing objectives on a map.

We also get to see the cast of characters interact. The tone of the trailer suggests that these heroes go on missions, battle each other in climatic fights, and there’s some lore connecting these characters together.

An RPG made of beautiful ASCII drawings, and other undiscovered gems

It’s fascinating to unpack what is necessary for a great game, and it’s usually less than you think. Stone Story, an RPG made from punctuation, letters, and numbers, achieves something deep and involving almost entirely with text, rarely using more than two colors.

When the right systems are there, very little else seems to matter. Let’s dive in with this week’s picks.

Evo 2019 attendees may have been exposed to the measles

Getting sick after a convention is nothing new. With thousands of people wandering around the same convention center, it’s no surprise that a few bugs would be passed around. But at Evo 2019, the biggest fighting game tournament of the year, the idea of convention illness was brought to new level: measles.

Late Thursday night, the Southern Nevada Health District released a report that a visitor to the Mandalay Bay and Luxor Hotel, who was there between Aug. 1 and Aug. 6, had a case of the measles. Evo 2019 was held Aug. 1 through Aug. 3 in roughly the same places, with most of the action happening in the Mandalay Bay Convention Center, while meetups and warmups were held in the Luxor Hotel.

Boatload of new Galar battle mechanics revealed for Pokémon Sword and Shield

Pokémon Sword and Shield will not only bring new Pokémon and a new region, but also some pretty tight new battle mechanics.

In the game, coming Nov. 15, Pokémon will have new abilities and items that they can use. Our pal Galarian Wheezing, for instance, has the Neutralizing Gas ability, which nixes the ongoing effects of other Pokémon’s abilities. The trailer above shows how this works on Rotom’s Levitate; poor Rotom plummets to the ground.
