Warframe gets a new update, along with a speedy new character

A new update is coming to Warframe, the free-to-play third person shooter. The Saint of Altra update includes a new Warframe, Gauss, who generates kinetic energy to blaze through battle and deal damage to enemies. Gauss comes with a series of changes to the game that will help set the scene for larger future updates.

MACH RUSH: Burst into a hyper-sprint to run across water, traverse across large areas faster, bowl over enemies and re-charge his Speed Gauge. Crashing into solid objects generates a powerful shockwave.

Fallout 76’s buggy new raid drags the game down further

Fallout 76 is in a rough spot. The game’s launch was spectacularly messy, and the following months managed to get worse. It’s only recently that Fallout 76 has been able to establish an identity and carve out a lasting niche in a flood of games as a service. Bethesda’s online take on the Fallout franchise thrives when it focuses on player choice, roleplaying, and customization. When the game tries to introduce World of Warcraft-style combat encounters and MMO gearing, that’s when things promptly go to hell.

Vault 94 is the recent “raid” added to the game. Vault 94 isn’t the first piece of endgame combat-focused content — it follows Project Paradise and The Burrows, two previous dungeons.

Watch Dying Light 2’s full E3 demo, plus developer commentary

The full 26-minute E3 demo for Dying Light 2 is now available on YouTube, and fans eager for the next installment of the parkour-focused melee game are in for a treat. It includes a full developer commentary, not unlike what the press were treated to in June.

Dying Light 2 takes place in a fictional amalgam of several European cities. Players must navigate the politics of a city on the brink of vanishing entirely after a global zombie pandemic. First-person platforming is much improved from the original, giving new options that increase the literal depth of the world. The further you fall below the surface, the more dangerous things become, including the risk of losing your own humanity.

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey: The Fate of Atlantis DLC episode 1 is free through Sept. 1

From Aug. 26 through Sept. 1, the first episode of the Assassin’s Creed Odyssey expansion The Fate of Atlantis will be free to anyone who owns the game.

This free story arc is another great excuse to return to Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. Ubisoft’s Ancient Greek epic was one of Polygon’s Game of the Year picks for 2018, and its DLC has continued to expand the game’s vivid, immersive world beyond those Hellenic shores. With ability enhancements, three new maps, and a bunch of mythological beings to meet and defeat, The Fate of Atlantis is practically a whole new game.

Here’s when World of Warcraft Classic launches in every region

World of Warcraft Classic will technically be released on Aug. 27, and will be available at the same time in every region. The game’s release date and time are based on Central European Summer Time, so the official release will happen at 12 a.m. CEST on Aug. 27.

This means American players will have a slightly different date than most other regions. In the Americas, the Classic servers will go up at 6 p.m. ET on Aug. 26. Players who are already subscribed to World of Warcraft can jump into one of the game’s many (mostly full) servers, create their character, and reserve their preferred character name.

Steam review bomb stops game from cutting homophobic content

It’s been a whirlwind month for old school shooter Ion Fury. First, the Voidpoint-developed and 3D Realms-published game made headlines after players discovered that the creators made offensive comments against trans people, “social justice warriors,” and feminism in general. Folks also shared images of an in-game Ion Fury item labeled “OGAY” (apparently a spoof of “Olay”) and a secret area where the words “fag bag” appear. In response, Ion Fury’s publisher apologized, promised to donate to charity, and to edit out the controversial material inside the game.

And now the developer and publisher of Ion Fury have walked it back.

How World of Warcraft Classic devs will right the wrongs of the 2004 launch

How World of Warcraft Classic devs will right the wrongs of the 2004 launch

World of Warcraft will never be the same as its vanilla launch fifteen years ago, despite Blizzard’s careful devotion to bringing every aspect of the original game back.

The character I rolled during my vanilla experience is now the same age I was when I started playing her; she’d be in high school now. It’ll never be possible to recapture the magic of vanilla, but World of Warcraft Classic is set to become its own, fascinating beast. In a world where dozens of MMORPGs have risen up in the wake of vanilla World of Warcraft and then faltered, and World of Warcraft itself is hardly recognizable, what sort of cultural footprint will Classic leave?

Wichita cops start flagging potential swatting addresses

Police in Wichita, Kansas — scene of a deadly swatting hoax in 2017 — will now mark addresses in their 911 system where residents feel they may be targets of that kind of dangerous online harassment.

The Wichita Eagle reported on Friday that police began soliciting these alert notices this week. Residents may request a form if they feel they are or may be a target of a swatting attempt. “Anyone can be the target of swatting, but victims are typically associated with the tech industry, video game industry, or the online broadcasting community,” Wichita Police Department Officer Paul Cruz said in a news release.

The International crowns its first two-time champion

OG is the first two-time — and back-to-back — champion of The International Dota 2 championship, following a 3-1 rout of Team Liquid in Shanghai on Sunday.

OG took a grand prize of $15,609,384 for its triumph, which follows last year’s Cinderella run from open qualification to world champions. This time, OG returned as an invited team, posted the best record in group play and was a top seed for the main event. OG swept through the upper bracket to dispatch Team Liquid — which itself had only lost one game out of the lower bracket — in four.
