Project Resistance revealed as team-based Resident Evil game

Project Resistance has been revealed ahead of the Tokyo Game Show as a “brand-new team-based survival horror experience,” perhaps similar to Resident Evil Outbreak.

The game looks like a four-player cooperative game using online multiplayer and features a variety of characters going against a robot man who seems to be in control. The robot man looks similar to Mr. X from Resident Evil 2, but we can’t be sure if it’s him or not.

Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Remastered Edition launching Jan. 23

Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Remastered Edition is dropping on Jan. 23, 2020 with a plethora of new features, as well as cross-platform play between consoles.

The new version will come with updated graphics and sounds, new character voice-overs, and a new online multiplayer mode. The original GameCube game was a hassle to play with your friends, as it required a Game Boy Advance link cable and system per player, but now players will be able to play together, even across systems.

Shenmue 3 gets a trial edition, refunds begin in September

Shenmue 3’s makers have outlined exactly how they will handle making refunds to crowdfunding donors upset that the game is an Epic Games Store exclusive. It does not sound like it will be a smooth or timely process.

In a note on Thursday, Ys Net told donors that an email survey will go out in mid-September to remind them of their platform choice and give them an opportunity to change that selection. This is just the beginning though. Refunds will begin for PC backers, but only after this survey runs its course. Moreover, PC players have only two weeks, the window in which the email survey is live, to ask for their money back.

Nintendo files weird patent for new Joy-Cons

A strange patent application Nintendo filed in Japan has fans guessing at its purpose, even before the necessary speculation of whether it’ll actually become a peripheral people can buy for the Switch. But there it is, a pair of Joy-Cons with a hinge.

The hinge flips the upper portion of each Joy-Con (left thumbstick on the left; face buttons on the right) downward, or away from the user, at about a 20 to 30 degree angle (eyeballing here). Shown against the natural posture of a hand with its thumb in the stick, this seems to be an ergonomic improvement.

Cube World developer says it’s finally launching — six years after alpha

Cube World, which began life with a paid alpha in 2013, is finally launching. Developer Picroma announced it will launch on Steam “hopefully around the end of September/October 2019.”

For those who can’t recall — and six years is geological time in this industry — Cube World was (well, is) a voxel-based, procedurally generated action-RPG that gathered some anticipation back when those concepts were a lot more buzzy. It was seen as a kind of Minecraft-meets-World-of-Warcraft riff and designer Wolfram von Funck published an alpha in July 2013, which let early players in for $15.

Death Stranding’s ‘very easy mode’ is for movie fans

Death Stranding will have a “very easy” mode, and it’s specifically for folks who have heard all the fuss about the game, its story, and perhaps the big stars attached to it, but rarely play video games.

Director Hideo Kojima tweeted news of this yesterday, with a gentle poke at someone who isn’t very skilled on the sticks. “We added Very Easy mode for movie fans,” Kojima said, in light of the fact big stars like Norman Reedus (The Walking Dead), Mads Mikkelsen (Casino Royale, Rogue One) and Léa Seydoux (Inglorious Basterds, Spectre) have been cast in the story’s three main roles. Kojima’s very good friend Guillermo del Toro (writer and director, lots of cool stuff) is also attached to this picture.

Gears 5 runs great on every Xbox, but Xbox One X performance is a stunner

The good news is that Gears 5 is going to look great no matter which version of the Xbox One you play it on, but the game also takes full advantage of the extra power of the Xbox One X. The folks over at Digital Foundry have taken a look at the game running on an Xbox One S and Xbox One X, so you can see exactly what the differences are.

On Xbox One X, players can apparently expect the game to run at a pretty consistent 60 frames per second throughout the campaign, a console first for the franchise. It maintains this frame rate through most of the action but, it seems, it can dip slightly early on in the game and when things are especially hectic.

In Monster Hunter’s Iceborne expansion, even the frozen terrain is out to get you

In Monster Hunter’s Iceborne expansion, even the frozen terrain is out to get you

Knee-deep snow and miles of unforgiving terrain stretch as far as the eye can see. While every part of this winter wilderness will slowly chip away at myyour health with it’s low temperatures, nothing in Monster Hunter World: Iceborne is more dangerous than the creatures that prowl around every corner.

Hoarfrost Reach is the biggest map of all the locales in Monster Hunter: World, it’s part of the games one and only expansion, Iceborne. The expansion, which is equivalent to the Ultimate (“G” in Japan) games that have come after most regular series entries, picks up at the end of Monster Hunter: World, with a steep difficulty to boot.
