Report: Leaked E3 plans propose fan-focused event with 10,000 more attendees

The Electronic Software Association (ESA) hopes to rebrand E3 as a “fan, media, and influencer festival” in 2020, according to a report by GameDaily.biz. The article also indicates that members of the lobbying organization have approved the sale of an additional 10,000 badges for the public, bringing the total consumer attendance to 25,000. These and other conclusions were drawn from a slide deck allegedly created by the ESA to pitch the proposal to member organizations. Polygon has not independently authenticated the deck.

According to the report, members of the ESA — which include Activision Blizzard, Bethesda, Bungie, Electronic Arts, Epic Games, Microsoft, Sony PlayStation, Ubisoft, and Wizards of the Coast, among others — approved the proposal to add more consumer tickets to the show. That may lead to a bifurcated E3 experience, with an industry-only day followed by several general admission days. The change would bring the event in line with Gamescom, Europe’s largest gaming convention.

Here’s the full list of games coming to Apple Arcade on launch day

Apple Arcade, the company’s subscription gaming service that offers up an all-you-can-eat buffet of iOS, Apple TV and Mac games for $4.99 per month, launches this Thursday. While some of the games coming to the service have been shown at various Apple events over the last few weeks and months, we weren’t entirely sure which games were going to be available on launch day.

MacRumors took the time to cull through the iOS 13 beta, which includes early access to Apple Arcade, pulling out the full list of games that are already live. While it’s possible some of these games may be pulled from the store on launch day, it’s fair to say that the vast majority will make the cut, with other titles coming in the weeks after launch.

Borderlands 3 gets hotfix for cloud save issue — but the problems may still persist

Some Borderlands 3 players are losing game progress after using the cloud save feature, according to posts on social media and reported by IGN. (Polygon faced similar issues while reviewing the game.)

Epic Games — which runs the Epic Games Store, where Borderlands 3 is being sold exclusively for PC — issued a hotfix on Monday afternoon for the cloud save problem that some players say has been deleting save progress. Though the bug may not be fully fixed, publisher 2K Games and developer Gearbox Software are aware of the issue, which was outlined on the Epic website: Players using cloud saves for Borderlands 3 should see a pop-up to resolve any conflicts between the save states, according the help page. The team has reportedly identified a bug that’s keeping the pop-up screen from showing up, which is causing cloud saves to be overwritten.

Co-defendant of deadly Call of Duty swatting sentenced to 15 months, barred from gaming

Casey Viner, who admitted to asking an acquaintance to swat a rival after losing a $1.50 bet in Call of Duty, was sentenced for 15 months in prison on Friday, along with being banned from online games for two years. That swatting resulted in a Kansas man’s death two years ago.

Viner pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy and one count of obstruction of justice in April. A U.S. Department of Justice release announced that Viner, 19, will serve 15 months in an Ohio penitentiary. Viner will pay $2,500 in restitution. Judge Eric. F. Melgren also barred Viner from any kind of online gaming for two years. Tyler Barriss, who was responsible for the swatting, received a 20-year sentence in March for that call, as well as other “fake emergency calls.”

Esports pro tries — and fails — to play in Auto Chess and Hearthstone events at the same time

Hearthstone esports fans noticed something was off this past weekend when Linh “Seiko” Nguyen was consistently looking at something off-camera during his Hearthstone Grandmasters Europe match against Elias “Bozzzton” Sibelius. The German player looked distracted throughout most of the match, which eventually caused him to make a game-losing mistake, leaving an important card vulnerable.

You can see the moment Seiko looks up to his computer and realizes that he’s made a terrible choice, one that’s cost him the game. As it turns out, Seiko was actually simultaneously participating in qualifiers for the $1 million Auto Chess Invitational. “Wasn’t the best idea to play the chess qualifiers this weekend,” Seiko tweeted and then deleted on Sept. 14, as captured by Twitter user hs_Pasca. “But I practiced too much for this already...”

Kickstarter under fire from creators over labor dispute

Crowdfunding platform Kickstarter is receiving pressure from creators and backers for what some perceive as anti-union activity. The company denies accusations it is hostile toward its workers. Meanwhile, dozens of creators have signed a letter of support for the employees at Kickstarter. Their fledgling union, called Kickstarter United, is asking for patience at this time.

“All of us organizing with [Kickstarter United] are committed to the mission of Kickstarter,” the union wrote on Twitter late last week, “We are not calling on creators who rely on Kickstarter to abandon live or planned projects.”
