A new Elder Scrolls miniatures game captures the chaos of Skyrim’s open world

My first experience with The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim found me stepping out of a pastoral village for the first time to inspect a nearby ruin. That’s when I — and everyone else who booted up the game — got jumped by a dragon in a scripted encounter.

But my experience was unique. At that exact moment a giant came wandering by. The ensuing three-way fight, with my pitifully low-level character trying not to be crushed underfoot, was incredible. That’s the same sort of gameplay that the team at Modiphius Entertainment hopes to recreate with The Elder Scrolls: Call to Arms, due out in early 2020 at retail.

Yep, these are Angry Birds sneakers

Angry Birds is coming up on its 10th anniversary — the puzzle game was released on iOS all the way back in December 2009. In the years that have passed, publisher Rovio turned the game into a franchise, with plenty of off-shoot titles released, as well as two movies, a cartoon series, and a theme park. Now, Rovio is licensing out the rights to the next logical thing: sneakers.

The holiday season, the company will release two Angry Birds sneaker designs in collaboration with footwear company K-Swiss. Essentially, these are re-skins of a classic K-Swiss shoe. Two different options are available: one pair that’s red and plastered with, of course, variations on Angry Birds’ red bird, and another that features the green, red, and yellow characters, Red, Chuck, and Bomb. Each of the sneaker pairs has a slingshot charm and features K-Swiss’ signature five stripes.

Netflix’s adaptation of YA fantasy series Shadow and Bone finds its leads

Netflix’s Grishaverse adaptation has found its core cast. Shadow and Bone, a television reimagining of Leigh Bardugo’s best-selling Grisha trilogy and Six of Crows duology, was announced back in January. The YA fantasy series started off with one trilogy, focusing on a war torn fantasy land reminiscent of Imperial Russia populated with magic users known as Grisha, where an entity of darkness known as the Shadowfold splits the nation in two. A spin-off duology, the Six of Crows books, took place in the same world but focused on a gang of thieves in the Amsterdam-inspired city-state of Ketterdam.

Pulling from both series means that a wide assortment of characters makes up this first round of casting news. Considering that the Six of Crows books take place two years after the main Grisha series, in an entirely different country, with entirely different motivations and goals, mashing the two together will be interesting to see.

There’s a new alien in the Star Wars and we love him and will protect him forever

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker hits theaters this December. If you’re in the mood for some Star Wars news, then take this still of new character Babu Frik to hold you over. What’s that you say? How will just a still image hold me over? I hear you, and I understand. But this still is of Babu Frik, who now wins the title for most adorable, non-droid Star Wars character. (Sorry, R2-D2, BB-8, and D-IO are still S-tier in my heart).

Babu was first revealed in toy version during the Triple Force Friday livestream (which, for the record, happened last Thursday in anticipation for this Friday). This, however, marks the first look at his film appearance.

Pokémon Sword and Shield will include autosave, a series first

Pokémon Sword and Shield, arriving on Nov. 15 for Nintendo Switch, will include an autosave feature.

According to an interview with GameInformer, Game Freak director Shigeru Ohmori said autosave will be running in the background all throughout the game. Fans who want a more traditional experience can turn it off, which will require them to pause the game and note their progress in the in-game journal in order to save. But autosave will be turned on by default.

Epic Games extends Fortnite season 10, but doesn’t explain why

Fortnite’s latest patch is here, and it had some surprise info for fans: season 10 isn’t ending when we originally thought. Instead of ending on Oct. 6, the way most people expected, Epic is extending season 10 until Oct. 13.

Epic announced the season extension alongside the launch of patch v10.40.1 on Wednesday morning, but there’s no mention of a reason for the delay in the patch notes themselves. As an added bonus of the season lasting longer, Gotham City and the Batman Caped Crusader pack will stick around for some extra time as well, and won’t disappear until the end of season 10. We’ve reached out to Epic Games to ask why this extension is taking place, and will update the post with any new information.

Streamer creates wearable ‘goose’ suit to play Untitled Goose Game

Dylan “Rudeism” Beck — the Twitch streamer who “plays games wrong” — created a wacky controller to play developer House House’s Untitled Goose Game. In a live stream last night, Rudeism showed off his latest creation: himself, as a goose, wearing a rig that “helps” him play Untitled Goose Game.

Here’s how it works: Movement is tied to flippers on his feet, but he controls direction through a thumb stick. To move, he has to walk in place, hobbling like a goose. A pair of white gloves are rigged to control the goose’s wings — if he wants to flap his goose’s wings, he needs to flap his own wings. Naturally, Rudeism has a white sheet he’s draped over himself to give himself a more goose-like appearance.
