Good guy Obsidian responds to Outer Worlds fan in the best way

Over twenty years ago, a teen was looking forward to the release of Fallout 2. One problem, however: He couldn’t afford the game, and based on a conversation with his parents, the prospects of getting it for Christmas seemed grim. So, he did what any desperate fan might do. He contacted the developer, Black Isle, directly.

To his surprise, the gambit worked — famed developer Feargus Urquhart himself responded with a free copy of the classic RPG. The twist is that the fan did get Fallout 2 for Christmas, too, so he ended up with two copies of the game. He wasn’t even sure the game could run on his computer, which was hardly top of the line. He ended up giving the extra copy to a neighbor who also played games.

The dragon in Final Fantasy 14’s Nier raid isn’t a Drakengard tease

The dragon appearing at the end of the Nier: Automata alliance raid in Final Fantasy 14 is just a fluke, according to an announcement from Square Enix this morning.

The new raid, The Copied Factory, released on Tuesday morning and a handful of players running it started seeing a bizarre dragon spawn at the final boss fight. While some fans were confused, others noted that this could be a sign that the crossover content might bring more to the story, like content based on the medieval-influenced parent of the Nier series, Drakengard.

The Nintendo Switch Lite is selling incredibly well

The Nintendo Switch Lite sold 1.95 million units in its first 10 days on sale, according to Nintendo’s quarterly earnings report. If you’re wondering how good that is, the Nintendo Switch itself sold 2.74 million units in the first month it was available back in 2017.

Outside estimates at the time pegged the original Switch as selling 1.5 million units in its first 11 days. All of this means that the Switch Lite is moving off shelves as if it’s a new console, not just the different form factor of an existing one. On the whole, the Nintendo Switch line has moved 18 million consoles since launch, the company says.

I have questions about the zombie Peely Fortnite skin

Fortnite’s Halloween celebration is underway, and as a part of the festivities, Epic Games is releasing a series of spooky costumes to mark the occasion. There’s the obligatory Ghoul Trooper skin, which players will cop due to rarity. And then there’s this inexplicable monstrosity, which the battle royale developer revealed earlier today via a new trailer.

PlayStation Plus offers Nioh, Outlast 2 for free in November

PlayStation Plus subscribers will get access to two spooky games this November: Team Ninja’s samurai action role-playing game Nioh and first-person horror adventure Outlast 2. Both PlayStation 4 games will be available as part of PlayStation Plus starting Nov. 5.

Nioh’s arrival on PlayStation Plus comes alongside a beta test for the sequel, Nioh 2. It’s a good chance to catch up on the Sengoku-era adventures of the samurai William, who [checks notes] likes to throw ghost sharks at his enemies. The tough-as-nails action-RPG from Team Ninja was originally released in 2017.

The Lion King is still devastatingly hard, even as an adult

I’ve played the first three levels of The Lion King on Super Nintendo hundreds of times. And that’s not an exaggeration.

My mom bought me the game shortly after it was released in 1994. It was months after The Lion King’s debut in theaters. I had just turned six, and I was still alternating between delight and devastation — The animals sing! But Simba’s dad dies — each time I thought about the movie.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare’s Highway of Death controversy, explained

When Call of Duty: Modern Warfare launched in late October, Russian consumers cried foul in large numbers. Most were reacting to the simple fact that the game portrays their country’s soldiers as little more than faceless henchmen. But alongside that patriotic response came a pointed assertion: The developers at Infinity Ward appear to be papering over a controversial bit of the United States’ military history.

The mission in question is called “Highway of Death,” and it takes place about midway through the game’s second act. In the real world, the Highway of Death is also the name given to a section of road just outside Kuwait City, Kuwait, an open stretch of land that became the site of what some believe to be genuine war crimes committed by the American military.
