Oh no, Fortnite is memorializing players’ biggest mistakes

There was a time, before the rise of social media and share buttons, when you could screw up in a game without having to worry that someone might post your blunder online — or worse, that it might go viral. You could mess up, feel embarrassed, and then move on with your life. Nobody would have to know.

Now, though? Even the video games you play might haunt you with your embarrassments.

Fallout 76 buyers entitled to refunds, Australia rules

Fallout 76 buyers in Australia are entitled to a refund, under a ruling from that country’s Competition and Consumer Commission published earlier today. In a statement, the ACCC said that ZeniMax Media, the parent company of Fallout maker Bethesda Softworks, “accepted that their actions were likely to have contravened the Australian Consumer Law.”

Consumers who bought Fallout 76 from its Nov. 24, 2018 launch until June 1, 2019 can request the refund. If they accept a refund, they will no longer be able to access and play the game. Fallout 76 is an always-online multiplayer game that requires a check-in to Bethesda Softworks’ servers on startup.

Finally we get to meet baby Pikachu, before he met Ash

Soon, Pokémon fans will know the history behind Ash’s Pikachu, thanks to the Pokémon anime.

The first episode of the new season of Pokémon will be called “Pikachu is Born!” and will show what Ash’s Pikachu was like before his life at Professor Oak’s office. Of course, Pikachu was a baby at some point, meaning we’re going to get to see a bunch of cute Pichu antics.

Ash’s relationship with Pikachu started off rocky at first. Pikachu refused to get in its ball, electrocuted Ash constantly, and even laughed at him when he failed to catch a Pidgey. Pikachu’s heart softened as he realized how much Ash cared about him. Hopefully this new episode gives some insight into how Pikachu ended up so sassy.

Red Dead Redemption 2 on PC is exactly what you think it is

Just over a year after its release on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, Red Dead Redemption 2 will arrive on Windows PC. The PC version, which Rockstar Games developed itself, debuts Nov. 5 on a variety of digital storefronts — including the new Rockstar Launcher — although it will not be available on Steam until December.

After spending an hour playing the PC port earlier this week at Rockstar’s headquarters in New York City, I can report that it’s exactly what you probably expect: a gussied-up version of a game that already wowed everyone last year with its gorgeous rendition of the Old West. In fairness, Rockstar isn’t pitching it as anything more than that. But there is one entirely new feature that doesn’t exist on consoles — a proper photo mode, one that’s not limited by the player character’s turn-of-the-century camera.

Mario Kart Tour is getting multiplayer, in beta form, this December

Nintendo’s Mario Kart for mobile phones, Mario Kart Tour, will get its first taste of real-time multiplayer this December. Nintendo will run a beta test before the end of the year, the company said on Twitter, but that multiplayer test will be restricted to players who subscribe to Mario Kart Tour’s Gold Pass.

Mario Kart Tour’s Gold Pass costs $4.99 per month and grants subscribers access to the mobile karting game’s fastest speed class, 200cc, and other cosmetic rewards. Early access to multiplayer is another perk, and a way for Nintendo to keep the multiplayer pool limited for now.

Destiny 2’s latest hotfix will make getting rare gear easier than ever

Destiny 2’s latest hotfix will make getting rare gear easier than ever

Destiny 2’s pinnacle Power drops are supposed to give players a source of loot to chase even after they hit the soft-cap of 950. This system has been working out, but Bungie decided that progress was a little too slow. To help fix this problem, Bungie is making pinnacle Power items a little bit stronger and adding some new loot to certain activities, the developer announced in the most recent This Week at Bungie post.

The pinnacle system relied on giving players gear that was exactly one point more powerful than their old gear. Unfortunately, since pinnacle drops were rare, this meant you had to do some serious grinding just to get your character from 950 to 951 — including getting an upgraded piece of gear in every single armor slot. Now Bungie has upped pinnacle gear to give players a two Power upgrades instead of one. This means that you’ll only need four pieces of pinnacle armor to go from 950 to 951 on your overall Power.

Remnant: From the Ashes now has a Hardcore mode, in case the game was somehow too easy for you

One of the hardest games of the year, Remnant: From the Ashes, just got a little bit more difficult. Developer Gunfire Games added a Hardcore mode to the third-person action game as part of its latest patch.

Much like Hardcore modes in other games, Remnant’s new mode gives players just one life to get as far as they can in the game. You can only activate the mode when you’re creating a new character. And if your Hardcore character dies, they’re dead for good. To make things just a little bit scarier, people playing Hardcore characters can only join games of other Hardcore characters.

Cobalion joins Pokémon Go raids as first Unovan Legendary Pokémon

Cobalion is the first Unovan Legendary to join Pokémon Go, starting on Nov. 4 at 4 p.m. ET.

The steel- and fighting-type Legendary Pokémon will join tier five raids, with the rest of the Swords of Justice trio, Virizion and Terrakion, likely not far behind it. To take it on successfully, use fire-, ground-, and fighting-type Pokémon, like Moltres or Machamp.
