We reveal a Hearthstone card from Descent of Dragons

Descent of Dragons will conclude a year-long story in Hearthstone, as well as add a host of new cards to the competitive format. The BlizzCon trailer for Descent of Dragons showed us that we’re heading to Northrend, home of Wyrmrest Temple, where dragons congregate among their shrines. We’re revealing the Wyrmrest Purifier, a guardian of the temple with a very interesting battlecry.

In Hearthstone, players can make their decks from a library of cards. Each class has their own unique pool of spells to pull from, and then a neutral set of cards that can be equipped by anyone. Neutral cards tend to be jacks of all trades, while class cards are specialized toward their hero. For instance, mages get lots of spells and secrets to play, while warriors deal with weapons and tanky minions.

Resident Evil 3 remake art appears on the PlayStation Store

Cover art for a remake of Resident Evil 3: Nemesis has appeared on Sony’s PlayStation Store. News of the leaked cover art comes via gamstat, which culls publicly available information from Sony’s API. In western markets the game will be titled Resident Evil 3. Alternate art includes a listing for Biohazard RE:3, likely intended for the Japanese market.

A third piece of art refers to Biohazard RE:3 Z Version, likely an uncensored (or Z-rated in Japan by the Computer Entertainment Rating Organization) version of the game. Last year’s Resident Evil 2 remake also received a “Z Version” in Japan.

Riot Games to pay $10M to female employees in lawsuit settlement

League of Legends developer Riot Games will pay “at least $10 million” to women who’ve worked at Riot Games in the past five years, the Los Angeles Times reported today. The payout is part of a gender discrimination lawsuit filed in November 2018 following a Kotaku investigation into sexist culture at the company.

Two Riot Games employees, one current and one former, filed the lawsuit seeking unpaid wages, damages, and other penalties. The former employees alleged Riot Games of violating the California Equal Pay Act. Riot Games announced the settlement in August, but the proposed settlement — which still needs to be approved by the court — was filed today.

Rockstar apologizes for Red Dead Redemption 2’s rocky PC launch with free stuff

When Red Dead Redemption 2 launched on Nov. 5 for Windows PC, there were some ... problems. Some players couldn’t boot up the Rockstar Games Launcher, which is required to run the game. Others got repeatedly kicked from the game itself. People who could get into the game were experiencing stuttering or other problems.

Most of the problems appear to have since been fixed, but it took a while. Rockstar Games apologized to PC players on Nov. 13 and promised fixes. Those fixes have since rolled out — and players are seeing fewer problems.

YouTube is changing how it moderates violent video game content

YouTube will no longer restrict violent video game content starting today, as announced in a new Google support post.

This means that “future gaming uploads that include scripted or simulated violence may be approved instead of being age-restricted” and that “there will be fewer restrictions for violence in gaming.” Google will continue to protect viewers from real-world violence, though. Likewise, if the video solely centers on gory content, like “dismemberment, decapitations, [or] showing of human corpses with severe injuries,” it’ll still likely get age-restricted.

Pokémon Sword and Shield fan beats final boss with only a Magikarp

The first time you meet Leon in Pokémon Sword and Shield, you are immediately told that the champion of the Galar region is undefeated. Imagine upholding a sterling record like that ... only to get wrecked by a little kid and his useless fish?

YouTuber PokeTips decided to try an experiment in his copy of the latest Pokémon games — what would it take for a player to defeat the toughest trainer in the game with nothing but a Magikarp? Despite being infamously useless, Magikarp does have something going for it this time around, as it can now learn the powerful Hydro Pump move. But one strong move isn’t enough to survive a high-stakes battle.

Playable Link coming in Super Mario Maker 2 update

The Legend of Zelda’s Link is coming to Super Mario Maker 2. Nintendo posted a trailer today, which showcases the exciting update — the Master Sword is coming, and it’ll let players transform Mario into an 8-bit Super Mario Bros. styled Link in Super Mario Maker 2.

There are clear benefits to becoming Link. He has a lot of abilities that Mario doesn’t, like a bow that shoots arrows in three directions, the sword dash, his shield, bombs, and, of course, the Master Sword itself, which can poke stuff. Nintendo showed off all the ways Link can add challenge to Super Mario Maker 2 courses, including a level that’s built specifically around the character himself — a four-player Link adventure.

Of course, he rates a trailer showcasing a bonkers, over-the-top fighting style that is in serious need of anger management counseling.

Atari VCS delayed for Indiegogo backers

The Atari VCS, the crowd-funded, retro-styled-but-modern-console/gaming PC, is delayed for those who donated to the venture on IndieGogo. The VCS’ makers still expect to hit the general ship date of March 2020, but backers will beg getting their units after December, when it was last promised.

Michael Arzt, the Atari chief operating officer, attributed the delay to a hardware upgrade, the same reason for the VCS’ first delay, from a launch originally set for the late spring or early summer of this year. “We were offered the opportunity to incorporate an all-new microprocessor built on a more powerful and more efficient architecture,” Arzt wrote on Medium. “The team is well aware that the delay impacted our backers, but feels strongly that we made the right decision to improve the product’s performance.
