Retro console maker Analogue is releasing an album on a Genesis cartridge

Retro console maker Analogue, the company behind the Mega Sg, Super Nt, and the upcoming Analogue Pocket handheld, is releasing an album — in cartridge format — in collaboration with London-based electronic music label Hyperdub. That album will feature 11 tracks that Analogue says will be exclusive to the cartridge — those songs won’t be released on streaming platforms or any other format, according to Analogue founder and CEO Christopher Taber.

The album will feature Hyperdub artists such as Burial, Jessy Lanza, Kode9, and DJ Taye. Their music will be playable on the Mega Sg, and Analogue is releasing a special, limited edition Hyperdub-branded model of the Sega Genesis-inspired console as part of the collaboration. Analogue will make 1,000 units of the Analogue Mega Sg Hyperdub limited edition available for $249.99.

Halo: The Master Chief collection already has some extremely cursed mods

Halo: The Master Chief Collection has only been out on PC for a day, and players are already using the modding system for evil. The current mods are pretty basic, but still extremely cursed.

On the modding site Nexus Mods, which hosts mods for hundreds of games, there are currently three mods available for Halo: The Master Chief Collection. Each of the three mods only replaces very basic game files, like the cursor in-game or the background of the menu.

Age of Empires 2 is better than ever, 20 years later

Age of Empires 2 is better than ever, 20 years later

When it first came out in 1999, I played a lot of Age of Empires 2. Its blend of historical real-time strategy, with detailed rock-paper-scissors military unit management made it one of my favorite games of all time. I love the rhythm of having my villagers collect resources while I improve the village’s defenses, build and upgrade its soldiery, and ultimately launch invasions of my enemies.

So when an updated HD version came out in 2013, I gave it a try. I was disappointed. Although it was a decent update, which offered a lot of modding tools and a general visual improvement, it didn’t catch my imagination. It was, in essence, a nostalgia play.

Congressman pleads guilty to spending campaign funds on Steam games

A United States congressman pleaded guilty in federal court Tuesday to stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars in campaign funds. Among the illegal uses of those funds were plane tickets for his pet rabbits and video games from Steam.

Our story begins in 2016, when Duncan D. Hunter (R-CA) was first questioned by investigators about how he managed to afford his family’s lavish lifestyle. The San Diego Union-Tribune reported that among the expenses in question were some $1,302 worth of Steam games. Since that time Hunter’s wife, Margaret E. Hunter, has also been implicated in the scandal.

New Apex Legends patch teases even more Peacekeeper shotgun nerfs

Apex Legends’ Dec. 3 patch is mostly about out-of-game changes, like giving players hundreds of more levels to progress through, and a few quality of life updates. The patch also promises a highly-requested balance change for the near future.

The Peacekeeper is Apex Legends’ most powerful standard shotgun, and one of its best all-around weapons. In fact, the gun is so good that it’s probably one of Apex Legendsbest guns period. Since the game’s release players have complained about the strength of the shotgun and asked for it to be toned down. Respawn has patched the weapon quite a few times, but it’s still stubbornly stuck around as a go-to for most players.

Destiny 2’s Season of Dawn will let players ride Sparrows on Mercury

Destiny 2’s Season of Dawn will let players ride Sparrows on Mercury

Since Destiny 2’s Curse of Osiris expansion back in 2017, players have wanted Sparrows on Mercury (Destiny 2’s smallest location). In the teaser trailer for Destiny 2’s upcoming Season of Dawn, the studio unceremoniously revealed that Guardians could finally drive their hover bikes on Mercury.

When Curse of Osiris released in 2017, Bungie wouldn’t allow players to ride Sparrows on Mercury — likely because it only takes about 45 seconds to run from one side of the area to the other. But with the upcoming Season of Dawn set mostly on the hot planet, fans hoped things would change. In a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moment in the trailer, you can clearly see Guardians driving new Sparrows through the familiar desert sands. Destiny community manager dmg04 confirmed the feature on Twitter.

Firewatch team’s next game ‘on hold’ as it works on other Valve projects

In 2017, Firewatch developer Campo Santo unveiled In the Valley of Gods, a promising-looking first-person adventure set in Egypt. The following year, Valve, the maker of Counter-Strike, Steam, and Dota 2, snapped up Campo Santo. Some Firewatch fans worried that Campo Santo had been swallowed by a company notorious for not shipping games.

Just last month, Firewatch fans freaked out a little bit more when multiple Campo Santo developers who had joined Valve removed any and all mention of In the Valley of Gods from their Twitter bios. It was a worrying sign.
