A campaign to make a pizza tray for your board games raised $1M on Kickstarter

Board games are bigger than ever before. Literally. The damn things take up entirely too much room on the table, so the team at Spidermind Games came up with a unique solution. They designed another, smaller table to sit on top of whatever table that you already own. It’s called the Level Up, and it’s earned more than $1 million on Kickstarter. The campaign ends Thursday.

Dearly departed Geek Chic, which went under about three years ago, helped to popularize the modern-day fad of luxury gaming tables. Its designs relied primarily on a sunken play surface, with board games that sat below the rim of the table. It’s the perfect solution if you need to have dinner later in the evening — of if you just want to hide your board gaming addiction from the neighbors. All you need to do is plop some leaves on top to cover up the sprawling bits below and you’re good to go. It’s been copied by dozens of manufacturers since.

PlatinumGames teases new mechs vs. monsters game, Project G.G.

PlatinumGames, the developer behind action games like Nier: Automata and Bayonetta, is working on a brand new original project. The developer released a teaser trailer for what it’s calling Project G.G., but it wasn’t ready to share an actual name.

The teaser starts off in a rain-slicked street with hundreds of people running away in a panic. Suddenly, a massive building collapses, letting us know that whatever the threat is here, it’s very big. The camera zooms in on a very good dog that isn’t shying away from the massive, unseen threat. A nearby building slowly starts to crumble just above the poor dog.

Overwatch’s Experimental Mode introduces terrifying tanks

Overwatch is seeing some changes, thanks to the game’s new Experimental Mode. Blizzard debuted this new Arcade variant with the goal of putting wild balance changes and compositions out for testing. Nothing may result of Experimental Mode, and game director Jeff Kaplan wants to assure everyone with the phrase: “Don’t panic.”

That being said, I’m sweating a little looking at these patch notes. The new metagame experiment allows for three damage heroes, two supports, and one tank. Blizzard is upping the utility and power of the game’s “off-tanks,” and the results are both terrifying and intriguing. Off-tanks are heroes that play a secondary tank role. They lack the defensive tools of an Orisa or a Reinhardt, but they can soak up extra damage and survive scenarios a squishy damage hero cannot.

Path of Exile: Delirium lets players add even more to the game’s ridiculous skill tree

On Tuesday, Grinding Gear Games announced Path of Exile: Delirium, the game’s first expansion in 2020. It’s an expansion about facing one’s inner fears, and makes some of the game’s legendary fights even more difficult. And as a reward, players can add new skills to the end of the game’s already ridiculous skill tree. An update with the expansion will go live in mid-March.

In different areas of Path of Exile, players can encounter the Mirror of Delirium. By interacting with the Mirror, players will shroud the nearby area in mist. The mist makes new monsters spawn and existing monsters more powerful. The mist can increase the difficulty in all kinds of situations, such as act bosses like the Brine King, and old expansion encounters like Ambush Strongboxes, Incursion, Breach, and Betrayal Encounters.

Xbox One Series X will have many of PC gaming’s best features

Monday’s big Xbox Series X announcements not only revealed specifics about the upcoming next-gen console, but also helped to crystallize the Xbox leadership team’s evolving approach to appealing to potential customers. More than any previous generation, this one may prove to bring the console experience more in line with PC gaming. It’s a further blurring of the line between the old and, frankly, hostile divide between the two formats.

Let’s quickly break down what we now know about the Xbox Series X.

Resident Evil 3 remake is getting a demo soon

After the success of a reimagined Resident Evil 2 in 2019, a Resident Evil 3 remake is on the way, this time exploring the story of Jill Valentine and the nefarious Nemesis bioweapon. Jill has to get out of Raccoon City, all the while avoiding an assassination attempt from the biggest, scariest, and most toothy boy around.

Capcom has announced that players will be able to try the Resident Evil 3 remake soon with a demo.

Players can earn rewards by playing games in quick play, competitive, or the arcade modes. Winning three games unlocks player icons, six games unlocks a new spray, and nine games is the key to the new Mardi Gras Ashe skin. A series of streamers will also be participating in the event; watching a participating stream will grant up to five additional sprays.

Pokémon-inspired MMO Temtem will add 50 new monsters in 2020

Temtem may give Pokémon a run for its money in some ways, but one of the biggest drawbacks for the early-access MMO comes down to the monsters themselves. Right now, there just aren’t enough of them, especially compared to Pokémon’s hundreds of options. But soon, that will change.

Crema published a content roadmap today, which outlines what the Temtem developer has in store for the rest of the year. In the immediate future, folks can expect updates to better balance ranked matchmaking, competitive auto-scaling, spectator mode, achievements, and improvements to in-game chat. Temtem will also add Clubs, which are its take on clans, banners and all. Trainers will also gain access to housing, which can be decorated with furniture, and eventually, useful items.

TikTok users keep reinventing Undertale’s ‘Megalovania’

Toby Fox’s “Megalovania” may be known as a five-year-old video game banger, but the meme behemoth actually has a more layered history.

The first iteration of the track, which existed long before Undertale, was released in 2009. Ten years later, the song is still kicking around on Gen Z homebase TikTok, the social media app where music reigns supreme. In fact, the basic tenets of the song’s popularity within video game spaces are perhaps the single best blueprint for understanding TikTok’s humor as a whole.
