How to hit every Houston Astro in MLB The Show 20

It’s been more than 45 years since Dock Ellis perpetrated baseball’s ultimate, unprecedented, and unsurpassed act of frontier justice: taking the mound with the intent of hitting every batter he faced, and doing so. Lots of people — fans and players alike — feel that the Houston Astros should face this kind of a firing squad, for the three-year campaign of dishonest sign-stealing, and smugly delivered lies and obfuscation about it, that gave the franchise two pennants and one world championship.

Whatever self-policed fate awaits Alex Bregman, Jose Altuve, George Springer, and the rest will have to wait a while longer. Major League Baseball on Thursday postponed Opening Day by two weeks, and the team on their schedule with the biggest ax to grind, the New York Yankees, won’t see them until Houston’s last road trip of the season. (The Los Angeles Dodgers, who lost the 2017 World Series to Houston, do not play the Astros this year.)

Twitch beats Breath of the Wild, against all odds

Twitch beats Breath of the Wild, against all odds

They say that if you give monkeys an infinite amount of time, they’ll eventually write Shakespeare by sheer accident. I’m not sure if that’s true, but at the very least I can confirm that hundreds of people all fighting for control at the same time can clear The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

Twitch streamer extraordinaire Pointcrow — who we featured in early March after he cleared Breath of the Wild without walking — is back this time with a different type of feat. The content creator rigged his Twitch stream so that his viewers can input commands via chat, with some actions, like backflipping and parrying, macroed for ease. The catch is that the chat has control only for five minutes at a time, and every so often, Pointcrow takes over.

Ring Fit Adventure is sold out everywhere, Nintendo confirms

Any Nintendo Switch owners looking to buy Ring Fit Adventure so they can exercise indoors are out of luck. The fitness role-playing game has been sold out for more than a month at major retailers throughout North America, pushing aftermarket buyers at sites like eBay to pay well over the $79.99 retail price.

The increasingly rapid spread of the novel coronavirus around the globe, and across the U.S. in particular, has led officials at all levels of government to call for everybody to take steps such as “social distancing” to keep the pandemic from proliferating further. Now more than ever, it helps to have at-home exercise activities.

The best part about Overwatch’s 2020 Archives event is the little things

The best part about Overwatch’s 2020 Archives event is the little things

Blizzard updates Overwatch on a regular schedule throughout the year with events. This month, it was time for the Archives event to take the spotlight. Archives has been one of the most popular in the game’s history, as it offers PvE-based story events, like a Venetian mission by black ops unit Blackwatch, or an Overwatch squad storming a robot-infested London.

This year, we’re not getting any new story missions. Instead, the existing Archives events are getting some new challenges, like exploding robots, or an enrage effect spread across enemies. This is presumably so Blizzard can focus on Overwatch 2, which will be a much more story-heavy game.

Control’s first expansion is called The Foundation and it’s coming out on March 26

Control was one of the best and weirdest games of last year, but Remedy isn’t done exploring the Oldest House just yet. The developer announced on Thursday that game’s first big expansion, The Foundation, will be released on March 26.

Remedy made the announcement via the game’s Twitter account, and included a short video teaser. As usual with Control the video is pretty vague and heavy on the mysteries, but there are a few things we can figure out from the hints. First of all, based on the name, it seems like we’ll be heading down to the Black Rock Quarry, the supposed foundation (see?) of the Oldest House. Based on all the weird stuff that’s constantly happening in the rest of the Federal Bureau of Control’s headquarters its lowest levels are sure to be filled with supernatural energy.

Dev reveals the many ways their tough game secretly helps the player

Celeste is an excellent platformer that can get pretty difficult, depending on the challenges that you take on. Creator Maddy Thorson recently took to Twitter to detail how the protagonist’s movement actually works, and it’s a fantastic look at how developers fudge mechanics to empower the player even as they make mistakes.

Thorson clarified that they did not invent any of these techniques, but having them all together in a single game certainly helped give Celeste a unique feel, even among a sea of other platformers.

Iron Harvest finds drama and beauty in alternative World War I

Iron Harvest is a real-time strategy game that attempts the same clever trick as the movie 1917, which is to disinter the drama of WWI era trenches, and to find entertainment in a muddy world of machine guns, barbed wire, and sandbags.

Based on the fictional world of 1920+, created by Polish artist Jakub Rozalski. It’s the same quasi-central European agrarian-industrial universe that serves as the foundation for the well-loved board game Scythe.

Pokémon Go temporarily won’t make you leave the house due to coronavirus

As the COVID-19 pandemic spreads across the world, entire businesses and industries are shifting to accommodate increased social distancing. In the case of Pokémon Go, a game that typically requires you to go out into the real world and congregate around points of interest, Niantic will temporarily change various mechanics to help increase the safety of its players.

In a statement to Polygon, a Niantic representative said that the studio is currently “prioritizing updates to Pokémon GO features and experiences that can be enjoyed in individual settings.” Notably, the game will be increasing habitats so that trainers can see more monsters nearby while playing closer to home.

NBA’s coronavirus shutdown breaks a mode in NBA 2K20

NBA 2K20’s “NBA Today” option for its MyLeague mode, which lets players begin a Franchise mode play-through from the current day in real life, is being crashed by the real-life league’s decision last night to suspend play because of the COVID-19 outbreak.

A ResetEra user first noted (and we’ve verified) that, lacking any real-life games on the schedule for the near future, the mode’s simulation chugs along endlessly until the game crashes back to the console’s dashboard.
