One man’s quest to find out what’s behind every video game waterfall

When Tristan Cooper started keeping track of whether or not a given game would let you pet its digital dogs, folks wondered why he cared so much about such a small detail. When it comes to video games, Cooper explained, players tend to have certain expectations about what they can do as they come across specific things.

“If you see a car in a video game, you’ll want to drive in it,” Cooper told Polygon in an email. “If you see a pond, you want to jump in (or fish). If you see a dog, you want to pet it. And if you see a waterfall, well, you definitely want to see what’s behind that waterfall.”

Twitch streamer Dr Disrespect renews exclusive streaming contract

Dr Disrespect, one of Twitch’s most popular and recognizable streamers, will be staying with the platform. The streamer, whose real name is Guy Beahm, debuted a fittingly silly, in-character video where he announced an extension to his exclusive streaming deal with Twitch.

Beahm has been streaming on Twitch since 2015. His streaming career exploded after the release of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds and he’s continued to find success as battle royales and shooters remain popular on Twitch. Beahm also recently signed a TV development deal with Skybound Entertainment.

Disney Parks does not have plans to close, but urges safety measures

Disney parks and resorts in the United States remain open amid growing concern over the spread of the novel coronavirus known as COVID-19. Both Disneyland in Anaheim, California and Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida are open and receiving guests as of Thursday.

Reached for comment on its coronavirus response at both parks, a Disney representative directed us to a blog post from Disney Parks chief medical officer, Dr. Pamela Hymel. The post, Disney Parks and Resorts Questions about Coronavirus/COVID-19, details the park’s “preventive measures.”

No Man’s Sky players are filling planets up with tiny homes

“Tiny homes” became such a huge community within The Sims 4 that Maxis turned the trend of building tiny residential locales into an official add-on. Now our favorite dystopian pastime of making the most with fewest resources possible has expanded into space.

In early March, Galactic Hub leader @Galactic_Geo — who oversees the player-created collective within the procedurally generated game — challenged members to fill a colony up with micro builds. Bases within the colony must expand to 2x2x2 cuboid rooms without any added interior space. Everything else was up to the players.

Overwatch’s 2020 Archives event goes live with new challenges, new skins

Overwatch’s annual Archives event is now live in all versions of the game, giving players a chance to revisit the game’s cooperative PvE campaign missions and earn new skins. While there isn’t a new Archives mission for this year’s edition of the seasonal event, there are new weekly variations on the existing missions: Uprising, Retribution, and Storm Rising.

Just as important are eight new skins for Overwatch’s heroes. There are five new legendary skins, including fresh looks for Ana, Junkrat, Pharah, and Zarya, and three epic skins for Mei, Symmetra, and Torbjörn. You can see some of those skins (and new sprays) in the gallery below.

Prince of Persia joins For Honor for three-week crossover

For Honor kicked off a Prince of Persia crossover event that runs until April 2, giving players of the hack-and-slash fighting game new skins, weapons, and bling to collect, as well as a new map to play on, and the Prince himself as an adversary to both sides in a limited-time mode.

Called Blades of Persia, the crossover’s feature event is called Ruler of Time, in which players on both teams in For Honor’s Dominion game type will encounter a formidable Prince, whose supernatural powers will require significant teamwork to overcome. He can rewind time (effectively restoring himself from a kill with half of his health); execute a teleporting melee attack to stun players; slow time surrounding them (effectively slowing their attacks and defenses); and summon ethereal spears as a kind of spike trap beneath their feet.

GTA Online’s most powerful bike is on sale (and people are panicking)

Grand Theft Auto Online gives players an assortment of tools with which they can cause mayhem, ranging from assault rifles to motorbikes with sawblades attached. But one vehicle in particular is notorious for tipping the scales out of balance ... and now it’s on sale.

The Oppressor Mk II is a flying motorcycle. Much like its cousin, the flying car known as the Deluxo, it can fire lock-on missiles that instantly annihilate most vehicles. It can also disrupt other players’ lock-ons, so bringing an Oppressor to a Deluxo fight can prove deadly. The Oppressor has a range of other features, like a rocket boost and the ability to leave obscuring trails of smoke.

The forthcoming TV adaptation of The Last of Us for HBO will be scored by the same composer behind the music for both The Last of Us and The Last of Us Part 2.

Druckmann, the game’s director and writer, is a co-writer and co-executive producer of the TV show. He announced Wednesday that Santaolalla had joined the project.
