Pokémon Go’s next special event is changing so players can do it solo

While Pokémon Go special events, like a planned Safari Zone and the Abra Community Day, have been postponed or canceled, developer Niantic is going ahead with this weekend’s Special Research story event based on the mythical Pokémon Genesect. In response to the spread of the novel coronavirus known as COVID-19, however, Niantic is making changes to that event so players can complete the required research tasks on their own — and likely from the comfort of their own homes.

Niantic has made a series of changes to the Genesect event that will let Pokémon Go players complete the required Special Research tasks solo. Those new tasks will include the following challenges:

As the novel coronavirus pandemic unfolds and non-essential stores begin to close, some employees feel GameStop is taking a business-as-usual approach that is causing anger and grave concern.

Multiple store managers and sales staff have contacted Polygon — requesting anonymity for fear of retaliation — to describe the company’s response to the spread of COVID-19. A Reddit thread is also collecting anecdotes about how GameStop senior management has failed to support its employees during the crisis.

Steam is having another ‘Game Festival’ to highlight indies who couldn’t go to GDC

With conventions like GDC, and associated indie game gatherings like the Indie Megabooth and Day of the Devs, canceled due to COVID-19 concerns, many indie devs are looking for an arena to showcase their games. So Valve is stepping in with a spring edition of its Steam Game Festival.

The Steam Game Festival is offering a digital space for indies to spotlight their games, and over 40 games will be featured through during the event. The Steam Game Festival Spring Edition begins Wednesday, March 18, kicking off a celebration of new and upcoming games. The debut Steam Games Festival, a 48-hour online event that featured 14 games, was held in December in tandem with The Game Awards founder and host Geoff Keighley.

Call of Duty: Warzone adds solos mode

You can now play Call of Duty: Warzone in a solos-only mode. Developer Infinity Ward unlocked the solos mode on Tuesday. Call of Duty: Warzone was released for free on March 10 with three-person squads.

If you wanted to play solo, you could disable squad filling — but you’d have to play alone, at a disadvantage to other teams with three players. Now, that’s unnecessary: Unless you want to play at that disadvantage, you can queue up for solos by selecting Battle Royale Solos from the Call of Duty: Warzone menu screen.
