Over 50,000 people have been banned from Call of Duty: Warzone

Call of Duty: Warzone is the franchise’s latest take on battle royale, and the fast-paced combat makes it quite enjoyable. However, the game only works if everyone is playing on equal ground, and cheaters are a constant hassle that developers need to deal with. Infinity Ward put out a post today, stating that it has banned over 50,000 cheaters since the launch of Warzone on March 10.

Infinity Ward briefly explained the programs it uses to detect and ban cheaters and cheat providers, but the post notes that it does not always discuss these matters publicly. Developers often keep their anti-cheat methods partially in the dark in order to keep the methods they use to identify and ban cheaters secret, thus preventing an arms race between modders and developers. The post reads:

Gloomhaven sequel Frosthaven hits Kickstarter, quickly earns $3M in funding

The crowdfunding campaign for Frosthaven, the sequel to the hit indie board game Gloomhaven, has earned more than $3 million in its opening three hours. The Kickstarter campaign could soon be the largest of its kind in the platform’s nearly decade-long history.

Gloomhaven is a tabletop role-playing game in a box, and widely regarded as one of the very best modern board games. The original game features card-driven combat mechanics, a nearly 100-mission branching narrative campaign, Legacy-style permanence, and a shipping weight of nearly 20 pounds. Despite the depth and breadth of gameplay on offer, fans of the game have been clamoring for a sequel since the original shipped in 2017. Frosthaven promises to deliver just that, with a unique, stand-alone campaign set to in a frozen region to the north of the original setting.

Later Daters is a dating sim full of sexy seniors

Dating sims are usually full of young, hot singles in your area, but a new take on dating sims from Canadian indie studio Bloom Digital Media is taking a different approach. Later Daters, which is due for a release on Steam and Nintendo Switch on April 16, stars a protagonist who has recently joined a retirement home.

The retirement community is full of residents, and players can flirt with — and date a lucky candidate — from eight different characters. The story is looking to buck the stereotypes about older people falling in love, but there are still some retirement-friendly activities for players to choose from and meet potential lovers at, including morning yoga and playing cards.

Animal Crossing fans are torturing villagers to get them to move out

You get 10 residents on your Animal Crossing: New Horizons island, so chances are pretty good that you won’t jive with all of them. Most of us will suck this up and bide our time until, hopefully, our disliked character leaves. Then there are the players who are, shall we say, getting a little more creative about their hatred.

Before I continue I need to make clear that my hands are not clean in this regard. I have, in the past, tried to move heaven and earth to destroy my mortal Animal Crossing enemy, Gwen the penguin. But my methods pale in comparison to some of what I’ve seen folks do in New Horizons.

Overwatch heroes are wearing googly eyes

Players who load up Blizzard’s hero shooter Overwatch may notice a big surprise. Well, two, to be exact. Each hero is wearing googly eyes, which comically roll around. Now, players can enter their hero gallery to watch the much-improved Play of the Game intros, or load into a game full of eager-eyed enemies.

For instance, logging in, players can see the new Thunder Doomfist skin... along with a pair of perfectly posed googly eyes. Ana and Torbjorn, the two characters with eyepatches, only have one googly eye applied. Winston’s googly eyes are tucked behind his glasses. It’s a series of nice little touches that I appreciate, and it’s surprisingly fun to just watch the new cinematic intros with those comical eyes bobbing and flailing about.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2’s remastered campaign is out now

After a brief leak on Monday morning, the remastered version of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2’s campaign is official. Activision announced the remaster on Tuesday, which will be released first on PlayStation 4.

The remastered campaign features “high-definition visuals – up to 4K resolution and HDR support on console,” Activision said in a news release, and an uncapped frame rate and ultrawide monitor support on PC. The original Modern Warfare 2 had 18 missions, including the infamous — and skippable — “No Russian” mission, which tasked players with moving through an airport as civilians are killed by terrorists — you could participate in the killing or not. The game does not include Modern Warfare 2’s multiplayer or Spec Ops modes.

QuakeCon 25 canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic

QuakeCon, the annual celebration of id Software and Bethesda Softworks’ many video game franchises, has been canceled due to the outbreak of the novel coronavirus known as COVID-19. The fan convention has taken place since 1996, and this would have been its 25th year. The announcement was made Tuesday on Twitter.

“In recent weeks we have spent a lot of time discussion how we might still move forward with QuakeCon this year,” QuakeCon said in a tweet Tuesday morning. “However, with all of the logistical challenges and uncertainties we currently face due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we have made the difficult decision to cancel this year’s QuakeCon.”
