Animal Crossing fans are using the game for Tinder dates

When Sam stepped off the seaplane, she was struck by the luxury of her island destination. “It was HUGE,” she says. That’s when she saw Animal Crossing: New Horizons in-game clock was a little off. “I noticed his time was about twelve hours ahead of mine, and a week into the future.”

Sam, who was totally new to the life sim franchise, was on a date with a boy she had met on Tinder. Speaking to Polygon over email, she says she could “totally” tell that her date was “cheating” at the game through a practice commonly called time traveling, but she didn’t mind. He was too nice to bring it up, she says.

F1 2020 brings team management to career mode

F1 2020 will, for the first time, let players create and manage their own team in the career mode. Codemasters teased the feature in an announcement trailer this morning, giving a jolt of excitement to race fans who have gone without the sport since the global coronavirus spread.

The game, launching in July for Google Stadia, PlayStation 4, Windows PC, and Xbox One, promises players may “be the 11th team,” meaning that this is at least a custom-team creator. It’s unclear whether team management will extend to taking over Alpha Tauri, Renault, Williams. or any of the 10 real-life teams, also.

What the heck is going on with Cooking Mama: Cookstar?

Cooking Mama: Cookstar was slated to be the first Cooking Mama franchise game on the Nintendo Switch. And I guess it still is, despite some ... troubles.

Cooking Mama: Cookstar is reportedly an “unauthorized version” that was never intended for sale, according to intellectual property holder Office Create Corp. Despite that, it was released in North America, Europe, and Australia. Physical copies are available online, but it was available only briefly on the Nintendo Switch eShop. Planet Entertainment was also reportedly promoting a PlayStation 4 version that was never officially licensed.

Why Valorant’s anti-cheat system has to launch when your computer starts

Valorant’s closed beta has been out for about a week, and players are starting to discover more about the game and how it works. Among the most recent discoveries is the fact that part of the game’s anti-cheat system, called Vanguard, launches as soon as you start your computer to help prevent more the sneaky forms of cheating.

This issue first came to light when a Reddit user posted a thread on the Valorant subreddit wondering if the start up was intentional. While many of the responses to the thread were skeptical, this is actually something that Riot announced several months ago, before we even knew the game was called Valorant.

Pokémon Go adds remote raids and other changes to let people play from home

Pokémon Go players will soon be able to take part in raids from the comfort of their own homes, as developer Niantic updates the mobile game to adapt to the coronavirus pandemic and social distancing. A new item, the Remote Raid Pass, is coming to Pokémon Go’s in-game shop, which will let players battle in raids that are visible in the Nearby screen.

Niantic explained that Remote Raid Passes will initially act similar to the game’s standard Raid Pass. Up to 20 players can join the same raid battle, but the number of players who can join with a Remote Raid Pass will be limited (to a number that Niantic did not specify). At some point, Pokémon Go players using a Remote Raid Pass will see their attack power decreased, as Niantic explained:

Call of Duty: Warzone’s Trios mode is now snipers and shotguns only

Call of Duty: Warzone and Modern Warfare both received a multiplayer patch on Tuesday morning that brings with it new modes and playlist restructuring. This includes a new twist on Warzone, altering the trios playlist.

In Warzone, the BR Trios playlist is now “Scopes and Scatter Guns.” This change alters the trios mode, with snipers and shotguns as the only available weapons. It’s unclear how long this new playlist will last, but the regular trios playlist is currently unavailable.

Old World takes a more human look at grand, historical strategy

I spent my Easter weekend in the glorious company of Old World, a turn-based strategy game for PC by Mohawk Games, best known for the widely admired Offworld Trading Company.

Old World (previously known as 10 Crowns) is due to be released in early access via the Epic Games Store some time this summer (you can pre-order today). The build I’ve been playing is certainly not the finished article, but it’s engrossing and fun, and I love its attempt to bring more story elements to grand strategy.
