World of Warcraft now has its own fake news

World of Warcraft players often have to deal with fighting gods, monsters, and dragons, but observant fans have found a new threat brewing while we wait for the next expansion, Shadowlands. The Scarlet Brotherhood, an enemy faction dating back to the game’s launch, has returned (again) with a whole new strategy: fake news.

Players have fought the Scarlet threat in one form or another for well over a decade. At launch, these crusaders were a religious military force dedicated to killing all of the undead in their kingdom. The problem is that these undead had been freed from the evil Lich King who raised them as an army, and are now sentient beings who just wanted to be left alone. This meant the Scarlet Crusade were committing genocide, and players had to show up and stop them. Because of the Scarlet Crusade, and general human fear of undeath, Sylvanas and her undead Forsaken ended up joining the other in-game faction, the Horde.

New Peaky Blinders video game is all about planning the perfect heist

Peaky Blinders: Mastermind is a brand new puzzle-adventure game headed to Nintendo Switch, PC platforms, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One this summer. The announcement was made at IGN, and includes the first look at the game’s fascinating time-bending mechanics.

The British period crime drama has been a hit with fans since it launched on the BBC in 2013. The series later became a favorite in the United States thanks to a streaming deal with Netflix. This new video game, developed by the team at FuturLab and published by Curve Digital, focuses on a single line of dialogue uttered by one of its central characters.

Halo: Reach fans spent 10 years trying to land an impossible stunt

When a group of Halo: Reach players discovered a Master Chief Easter egg back in 2010, they weren’t happy with just appreciating the statue from afar. All they could think of was: How can I get there? What would it take to stand atop this franchise monument, which resides in the background scenery well beyond the game’s playable area? They wouldn’t get the answer until a decade later, in 2020.

Lone Wolf is the final mission in Halo: Reach, and for “trick jumpers” who bend the game’s physics to launch themselves to and fro, it is a particularly notorious level.

Borderlands 3 endgame Mayhem Mode is getting some big changes

The endgame in Borderlands 3, Mayhem Mode, is getting a big update. On Tuesday developers at Gearbox announced Mayhem Mode 2.0, which includes random modifiers and tweaks to the loot tables. The update that goes live on April 23.

Mayhem Mode automatically unlocks for players who have finished the main campaign, and was previously accessible only from the starship called Sanctuary 3. After this Thursday, players will be able to hop into Mayhem at any time using their in-game ECHO device. Before they launch, however, they’ll be able to customize their Mayhem Level from a scale of 1-10.

Gears Tactics started out as a board game, here’s what it looked like

After previewing the first few missions in Gears Tactics, I’m pleasantly surprised. The new turn-based strategy game from Splash Damage is more than just another XCOM clone. It actually feels like a Gears of War game, with all the fluid movement and high-powered weaponry fans have come to expect. But it also feels a lot like a tabletop game. That’s because Gears Tactics actually started out as an elaborate board game.

Polygon talked with associate creative director Steve Venezia, who cobbled together the paper prototype using the office printer way back in 2017, to learn how that work contributed to the final product due out on April 28. More than anything, he said, the early prototype helped his team experiment and take risks in a fun and flexible way.

Animal Crossing fans reimagine album covers with KK Slider

Everyone’s favorite Jack Russell pup can obviously produce some good bangers, but one of my favorite things to do when I get a new K.K. Slider track in Animal Crossing: New Horizons is to look at the album cover. You’ll see K.K. Slider in all sorts of situations and get-ups, and sometimes he’s even accompanied by other Animal Crossing villagers.

But what if K.K. Slider were behind some of the biggest and well-known albums in real life? That’s a question many artists are answering lately in the form of a “redraw” challenge, where they take actual albums and find ways to include the hippie musician. The results are as amazing as they sound.

Animal Crossing will get wedding event, new mystery island

In late April, Animal Crossing: New Horizons fans finally got confirmation that features like an expanded museum and a garden shop are coming to the life simulator. But Nintendo is already looking beyond that with a series of events and activities that are sure to keep players busy in the months to come.

During May, players will be able to visit a totally new mystery island where it appears that Rover the cat will be waiting. In the past, Rover has appeared near the beginning of games to help the player shape their appearance, so it’s not clear what type of role he might have in New Horizons. It’s worth noting, however, that in Pocket Camp, Rover has his own set of furniture. Crossing my fingers for expanded character customization options, though. The May Day Tour will last from May 1-7. Based on the footage, the island appears maze-like.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons update will add an expanded museum, garden shop, and Redd

Animal Crossing: New Horizons’ next update arrives Thursday, April 23, and will add new merchants and an expanded museum, Nintendo confirmed on Tuesday morning. New additions include Leif, the sloth who Animal Crossing fans will remember from Animal Crossing: New Leaf, who will run a garden stall, and Redd, the fox/art dealer who trades in paintings, sculpture, and furniture of sometimes questionable authenticity.

Leif’s Garden Shop will sell shrubs and flower seeds. He’ll visit the island plaza similar to Kicks, the shoe and bag seller. Redd (aka Jolly Redd) will also occasionally come to the island via players’ “secret beaches” to sell in-game art, as well as unique furniture. Players can donate Redd’s artworks to Blathers’ museum, which will expand to include an art gallery.

Death Stranding PC release delayed to July

Death Stranding’s port to PC has been delayed. The game, previously scheduled to arrive on the Epic Games Store and Steam on June 2, has been pushed to July 14, Kojima Productions announced on Tuesday.

Kojima Productions cites the current work-from-home orders in Japan and the temporary closure of the studio’s office, in an effort to curb the spread of the coronavirus, for Death Stranding’s delay.
