Jagged Alliance 3 brings PC tactics series back after 23 years

Jagged Alliance, the 25-year-old turn-based tactics series, will finally deliver its second numbered sequel — and first of this century — with Jagged Alliance 3, coming to Windows PC at an unannounced date.

Jagged Alliance 3 will be developed by Haemimont Games and published by THQ Nordic, which acquired the Jagged Alliance IP in 2015. THQ Nordic on Friday also made the original Jagged Alliance: Gold Edition free on Steam, in observance of the publisher’s 10th anniversary. Jagged Alliance: Gold Edition comprises the 1995 game and its 1996 spinoff, Jagged Alliance: Deadly Games.

Outcast 2, the sequel announced 20 years ago, is finally coming out

If your response to the announcement of Outcast 2 - A New Beginning is, “I’m not sure I’ve ever heard of Outcast 1,” that’s quite understandable. The sequel was originally announced two decades ago.

The first Outcast game, an award-winning sci-fi adventure game developed by Appeal and published by Infogrames, was released on PC way back in 1999. The sequel, originally known as Outcast 2: The Lost Paradise, was announced the following year, but it was never completed due to financial issues.

Destroy All Humans! 2 remake probing PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X

THQ Nordic is reviving Destroy All Humans! 2 with a full remake of the 2006 game. Titled Destroy All Humans! 2 - Reprobed — this is the publisher who released Kingdoms of Amalur Re-Reckoning and Darksiders: Warmastered Edition, after all — the remake is being developed for PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X for a 2022 release.

Developer Black Forest Games promises local two-player split-screen co-op, and new and improved features, in its built-from-scratch remake of Destroy All Humans! 2. The Reprobed version, unlike its 2020 predecessor, does not appear to be bound for last-generation consoles.

Halo: The Master Chief Collection’s Season 8 will be its last

Halo: The Master Chief Collection’s eighth season of updates will be the last one for the anthology, 343 Industries told fans on Wednesday. The studio said it is focusing on giving the 2014 collection a successful send-off so that developers may focus on the launch of Halo Infinite, coming in early December.

The final season does not mean no more updates or support, 343 said. “We have more MCC work to do and support will continue,” Tyler Davis, 343’s community manager, wrote on Wednesday. However, “as a studio it’s not ideal to run and continue shipping seasonal updates for two different multiplayer titles concurrently,” alluding to Halo Infinite, whose multiplayer will be free-to-play.

Ikea introduces a new line of furniture and gear for gamers

Getting all of your gamer gear is very important — a comfortable chair, a sturdy desk, and maybe some storage space. With that in mind, Swedish furniture company Ikea has rolled out a new gaming range with over 30 products, both big and small. There are six product families, all of which have delightful names: Uppspel, Lånespelare, Matchspel, Gruppspel, Utespelare and Hudvudspelare. The Uppspel products were designed in collaboration with Republic of Gamers.

The product line includes some obvious pieces, like gaming desks and chairs, and some smaller accessories like a ring light for streamers, or a neck pillow and mug holder to make sitting at the desk a little comfier.

Gran Turismo 7’s campaign is always-online, and fans are not thrilled

Gran Turismo 7 has an always-online campaign mode. While these requirements are increasingly par for the course, particularly in sports and racing games with big career modes, that doesn’t mean the series’ community is particularly happy about it.

The requirement was subtly mentioned in a PlayStation Blog post a day after Sept. 8’s PlayStation Showcase 2021, where the driving simulator’s launch date was finally revealed. The blog post from Polyphony Digital president Kazunori Yamauchi references the return of the Gran Turismo Campaign mode — this is the first numbered GT since 2013 — but asterisked that remark with a fine-print mention that “these features require internet connection.”

Jurassic Park gets the legacy treatment with a board game that spans the entire franchise

Funko Games, known for its excellent licensed board games, is taking big swings with the Jurassic Park franchise. It has teamed up with Universal Studios and Amblin Entertainment to create a legacy-style board game based on the entire cinematic universe. The currently untitled game is due out in 2022.

“The story takes place from before Jurassic Park and continues all the way through until today and beyond,” said marketing manager Adam Minton from the floor of Gen Con. “You are altering the game as you play. You’re unlocking different things. [...] It is a completely original game designed from the ground up for this.”

Warhammer 40K’s first Kill Team expansion includes Sisters of Battle and T’au forces

The first expansion for the latest version of Warhammer 40,000 Kill Team will include new Sisters of Battle and T’au miniatures. Titled Warhammer 40,000 Kill Team: Chalnath, the announcement was made Thursday during the Gen Con tabletop gaming convention. As is customary for publisher Games Workshop, no pricing information or release date was announced.

Kill Team was rebooted in August, and features a completely revamped ruleset. In our review, we noted how it leans into storytelling with colorful units and narrative encounters. That makes the Sisters of Battle, also known as the Adepta Sororitas, an excellent choice to keep the sub-franchise’s newfound momentum rolling. The faction made their triumphant return to the science fiction franchise in 2019 with a lavish new boxed set and recently featured in a Marvel comic. The T’au, on the other hand, are another popular faction. The grey-skinned xenos race is known for their collectivism and big, stompy robots.

Valheim’s new update lets Vikings make beautiful new homes

Valheim, the Viking sandbox game, had an explosively popular launch. Now developer Iron Gate Studio is ready to release the game’s first content update, Hearth & Home. As you might guess from the title, the update largely centers around building nicer bases. But there are other upgrades to combat, crafting, and exploration that are tucked into Hearth & Home, which makes it a nice time to return to Valheim for eager Vikings.

There’s new furniture and food for players to divide, like the Darkwood building pieces, and a new stone throne and hot tub. There are also crystal walls and shelves to showcase all of your treasure, which is a nice touch. Then there are more cooking supplies, a cartography table, an Obliterator to destroy unwanted items, and a new iron cooking station for gourmet recipes.
