Bungie dedicates first 8 minutes of Destiny 2 livestream to George Floyd, BLM

Today’s livestream detailing the next expansion of Destiny 2 began with an eight-minute, 45-second moment of silence in tribute to George Floyd.

Floyd is the black man who died at the hands of Minneapolis police on May 25. Since his death, thousands have taken to the streets around the world to denounce violent policing tactics and to shine a light on the racism and systemic inequality that disadvantages and cuts short black lives in the United States. He will be laid to rest in Houston, Texas Tuesday next to his mother.

Nintendo reports 300,000 customer accounts were illegally accessed in April

Nintendo says as many as 300,000 customer accounts were compromised in April, more than twice as many as originally reported by the company. The statement, issued Tuesday in Japanese, says that the massive breach was likely the result of customers using the same password in multiple places online. The announcement raises the number of accounts effected by 160,000.

This batch of Nintendo customer accounts was a ripe target for criminals. At least one Polygon staffer was impacted, and only noticed the breach after dozens of PayPal transactions for Fortnite currency began posting to their personal credit card. Account nicknames, dates of birth, country/region, email address, and gender information were all exposed in the breach.

Valorant’s latest patch nerfs Sage ... again

Valorant’s first official post-release patch is here and it isn’t the biggest patch in the world. Since Valorant has only been out for about a week, it’s no surprise that it isn’t getting many changes just yet, but there are a few important tweaks like a nerf to Sage and a few Spike Rush changes.

Sage might be Valorant’s most-nerfed character in both beta and release. It isn’t because she’s oppressively strong or over-powered, it’s because she’s always useful. Her heal and slow abilities mean she’s great on defense, but her wall also made her a formidable Agent on attack, as well.

Overwatch’s Hero Pools are being removed from competitive play

Overwatch developer Blizzard Entertainment is removing restrictive Hero Pools from competitive play. Now players are free to use their favorite characters at any time. It’s also changing how Hero Pools work in the Overwatch League. The brief update was issued on Monday.

“We’ve been listening to your feedback and constantly iterating on the feature behind the scenes,” said community manager Molly Fender on the game’s official forums. “We initially implemented Hero Pools to address issues with stagnating metas and to keep match-ups exciting and fresh. However, we’ve found that the introduction of Experimental Card and increased hero balance updates has helped us work towards a healthy, changing meta in Competitive Play without needing to disable heroes.”

Xbox console bundles ditch 25-digit codes for something easier

Setting up a modern video game console has traditionally meant punching in a bunch of lengthy codes. Any games that came packed in, along with any promotional memberships, each have their own string of letters and numbers to sort out. Going forward, Microsoft plans to do away with those codes. A new program called Digital Direct embeds those games, DLC packages, and trial subscriptions directly on the console itself.

The change to all-digital redemption for new consoles was quietly made on the Xbox website in an undated post. In fact, if you purchased a console recently you might have some goodies that you missed.

PlayStation 5 reveal rescheduled for June 11

Sony has rescheduled its PlayStation 5 reveal event for Thursday, June 11 at 4 p.m. ET/1 p.m. PT. The reveal event will include a first look at PS5 games, and will be broadcast on YouTube and Twitch.

The event was originally planned for June 4, but Sony delayed its presentation amid anger, unrest, and protest over the killing of George Floyd, the man who died at the hands of Minneapolis police on May 25. Those protests have continued, and since grown in size, and other companies have paused planned reveals in an effort to not detract from the messages protestors are trying to send.

World of Warcraft’s latest short story has fans swooning over elf smooches

World of Warcraft takes place in a vast universe, and not all of the stories that take place there happen in the game itself. Instead, lore is often released through novels, short stories, comics, or spinoff games like Hearthstone. On May 29, Blizzard released the short story “A Moment In Verse,” by author Madeleine Roux. It’s an utterly indulgent piece where two characters read poetry and smooch, and it’s one of the best parts of the Battle for Azeroth story so far.

“A Moment in Verse” stars two elven side characters in the World of Warcraft universe: First Arcanist Thalyssra and Regent-Lord Lor’themar Theron. We met Thalyssra back in 2016 in the Legion expansion; she leads the Nightborne, an elven faction who became an Allied Race for the Horde with Battle for Azeroth. Lor’themar has been around in-game for 13 years as the leader of the Blood Elves in Silvermoon City. Both of them are fan favorites, even though Lor’themar has mostly hung out in the background and played a supporting role.

How does XCOM 2 run on Nintendo Switch?

The Nintendo Switch sees a steady stream of games that are ported from other, more powerful, platforms like the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Windows PC. But because the Nintendo Switch lacks the graphical horsepower of those other platforms, concessions must frequently be made to get the game running. Because of these concessions, a great game on another platform might be an absolute disaster on the Nintendo Switch. Or, in the best scenarios, the core strengths of the game are able to transfer over, even if it means taking a graphical hit.

In short, how does the game play on Nintendo Switch?
