Grounded caters to those with arachnophobia in a very unusual way

Obsidian Entertainment launched a 30-minute demo for Grounded on Tuesday. The game shrinks players down until they’re smaller than a pebble, bringing them face-to-face with all manner of beasts ... including spiders. To make the game palatable for those who suffer from arachnophobia, developers have opted for a unique solution: A slider that dials back how spider-like the game’s spiders actually are. Here’s how it works.

Booting up the game for the first time, players are immediately shown a warning about the game’s eight-legged content.

Two new Kingdom Hearts games will arrive later this year

New Kingdom Hearts content is on the way in 2020, with two brand new titles making their debut. A trailer featuring a full orchestra playing some of the series’ iconic soundtrack announced some of the new content coming later this year.

The first piece of content is an expansion to the mobile game Kingdom Hearts: Union X, featuring Maleficent. The next — a brand new title — is another mobile game in the same art style as Kingdom Hearts: Union X, with what looks like some heavy card-playing action. Titled Kingdom Hearts: Union Dark Road, it appears to take place right after Union X, but before every other game in the series. It will be out on June 22 on Android, Apple, and Amazon devices.

Red Dead Online hackers can’t spawn the KKK anymore, Rockstar says

Red Dead Online, Rockstar’s multiplayer portion of Red Dead Redemption 2, has historically struggled with wrangling hackers who can bend the game to their will. But recently, Rockstar has put a stop to a racist cheat that allowed players to take on the role of the Ku Klux Klan.

The KKK appear as an in-game white supremacist faction within the single-player portion of Red Dead Redemption 2. While they are not included in the MMO portion of the Wild West, players can still make these characters appear through the use of mod menus, cheating programs often used by hackers. These external programs allow players to simply pick models — which the community colloquially refers to as a type of “ped” — to bring into the multiplayer. Potential spawns range from alligators to trains. If it’s in the base game, there’s a good likelihood you can use it via these mod menus. Previously, it was possible for cheaters to select a KKK model through this method.

Madden NFL 21 trailer reveals new gameplay mechanics, release date

Madden NFL 21’s first gameplay trailer showcases the latest efforts from developer EA Tiburon to make the action more realistic on both sides of the football. The game is set for release Aug. 28 on PlayStation 4, Windows PC (via both Origin and Steam), and Xbox One, with PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X versions set to follow later this year and a debut on Google Stadia set for this winter. The release date is later than usual — EA has been launching Madden in early to mid-August for the past couple of years.

The trailer arrived Tuesday morning, more than a month after EA offered a brief glimpse at Madden NFL 21 with “in-engine” footage captured on the Xbox Series X. Mid-June is much later than EA usually lifts the lid on Madden, but the coronavirus pandemic has thrown everything out of whack this year. In addition, EA pushed back the release of this trailer from its originally scheduled debut on June 1, out of respect for the ongoing worldwide protests against police brutality and racial injustice following the killing of George Floyd in late May.

Nintendo reveals the full line of Lego Super Mario sets

Lego and Nintendo finally unveiled the full Lego Super Mario line ahead of its Aug. 1 release date. Though the Starter Course is necessary for kicking things off, Lego will launch the line with 10 expansion sets and four Power-up Packs, which add new outfits and, well, power-ups for Mario.

The two companies announced the collaboration in March, noting that it’s part-game, part brick-building. Lego Super Mario builders will be able to construct levels and actually move their Mario figure through the courses to defeat enemies and collect coins. It’s all centered on this new, interactive Lego Mario figure that tracks a player/builder’s progress. New details have been being released periodically, but this is the time time we’re learning about the full launch line-up.
