Star Wars: The Old Republic is finally available on Steam

Star Wars: The Old Republic, Bioware’s long-running Star Wars-themed MMO, has finally made it to Steam.

Players who want to check out the MMO can jump into a galaxy far far away for free and start playing a slightly limited version of the game. Playing for free will grant you access to the game’s original story campaigns and a couple of the recent expansions, but some of the game’s more premium features, such as the full level-75 level cap, and the most recent expansion content, including last year’s Onslaught expansion, are still locked behind the $14.99 a month subscription price.

Sega’s new Yakuza RPG arrives this November with an English dub

Yakuza: Like A Dragon will be released this November in North America, Sega confirmed on Wednesday. The action-packed, turn-based role-playing game will feature a full English-language dub, similar to last year’s Yakuza spinoff Judgment, and will star veteran actor George Takei.

Takei will voice Masumi Arakawa, “a powerful patriarch whose dissolution of the Tojo Clan’s yakuza empire sets into motion the conflict at the heart” of Yakuza: Like A Dragon.

Hands-on with Star Wars: Squadrons’ Fleet Battles

Hands-on with Star Wars: Squadrons’ Fleet Battles

I’m three and a half hours into a marathon demo of Star Wars: Squadrons, the new combat spaceflight simulator from Electronic Arts. A back-and-forth Fleet Battle has been raging for the better part of 30 minutes inside the Nadiri Dockyards, as a New Republic MC75 Star Cruiser and the Imperial Star Destroyer I rode in on play a high-stakes game of chicken. Now it’s time for the Empire to make its final push.

Inside my TIE bomber, I’ve put all power to my weapons systems. I’m slowly building up a charge on a ridiculous and powerful beam laser. If I can close with the 75 without getting shot out of the sky, I have a decent chance of ending the match. Even with a partial charge, the beam laser is a monster that can do serious damage to even the largest capital ships.

Final Fantasy 14’s latest trailer teases upcoming story updates, Nier raid

The trailer for Final Fantasy 14’s next patch, 5.3, was shown Wednesday morning during a live stream by Square Enix. The trailer reveals many of the highly anticipated features of the upcoming patch, including a grim look at the main story quests.

The game’s story continues as Ardbert, the original Warrior of Light from The First, has his corpse taken over by Elidibus, one of the game’s central antagonists. The Crystal Exarch, everyone’s favorite cat boy, also seems like he’s in serious danger as he says things that certainly sound like a final request. Square Enix loves to bait us, though, so this could all be a set-up to get fans worrying over the wrong character.

Lovestruck’s mobile game writers on strike over pay, workplace complaints

Twenty-one writers for Lovestruck, a mobile app that publishes visual romance novels, are on strike after asking owner Voltage Entertainment USA to recognize their demands as a collective, called Voltage Organized Workers. These Lovestruck writers, all of whom are contracted workers, have united to demand “better working conditions, greater transparency, and increased protections” for the staff. On July 15, Voltage Organized Workers posted on Twitter and Tumblr that they were going on strike after management refused to recognize the workers’ demands.

“Not only are we paid less than half the industry standard rate, we are asked to meet extremely tight deadlines and produce enormous amounts of content without protections or benefits,” the workers said in a statement. “We want to see our hard work and commitment to authentic storytelling given the value it deserves.”

League of Legends announces more anime-inspired skins, including a kitsune Kindred

Four more skins are coming to League of Legends as part of the anime-inspired Spirit Blossom skin line. This batch includes skins for Riven, Ahri, Cassiopeia, and Kindred, who hasn’t received a new skin in years.

Just like how Thresh was the star in the last batch of skins, Kindred is the highlight in this set. Lamb’s elegant form, masked with thick hair, along with Wolf’s Japanese kitsune-based appearance, fit the line perfectly. It’s like everything a Kindred main could want in a very good skin.

Some of Deadly Premonition 2’s transphobic content patched out, but problems remain

Some of Deadly Premonition 2: A Blessing in Disguise’s transphobic content has been patched out of the game following director Hidetaka Suehiro’s — also known as Swery — apology last week.

Suehiro previously said the scene, in which a character is repeatedly misgendered and deadnamed, would be rewritten. On Tuesday, he said the scene has been fixed. “I didn’t change the important point of the story of this work, and I was able to make changes only where I wanted to make corrections,” Suehiro said. “Therefore, I am confident that fans who were worried that ‘this fix may change the essence of the game’ will be reassured.’”

Valorant’s latest patch might finally make Viper worth playing

Valorant’s latest patch might finally make Viper worth playing

Valorant’s latest patch is here and Riot’s still on a quest to make Viper a viable character. Along with Viper’s fresh new buffs, this patch also brings small nerfs to Raze and Brimstone, as well as a nerf and slight rework to the Classic default pistol.

Viper’s change is the biggest adjustment this patch, and the biggest change Riot has brought to the character so far. Viper’s Ultimate ability creates a massive cloud of toxic smoke that occupies a large area and obscures the vision of every player that enters. It’s also the ability that got the most attention this patch.
