Typing is esports, and my arms are very sore

Honestly, for a long time, I thought I was a pretty skilled typist. I love typing games. I usually beat all my friends in words-per-minute (WPM) tests. Usually, I’m the runaway champion. I credit this skill to always being an internet kid. I have been Too Online since I was a teenager. Now, typing is essentially my job.

On Tuesday morning, I noticed that registration for the Ultimate Typing Championship — a reboot of the 2010 tournament — had opened. I will never be an Overwatch or StarCraft 2 pro, but typing? Yeah, I figured this was my chance.

This year’s Call of Duty is being made by Treyarch

This year’s Call of Duty sequel will be developed by Treyarch and Raven Software, confirming a report more than a year old that Treyarch’s turn to make the game was being moved up a year.

Daniel Alegre, Activision’s chief operating officer, confirmed Treyarch’s role in a quarterly earnings call with investors on Tuesday afternoon. Alegre said Raven and Treyarch would handle “the next premium installment for Call of Duty,” meaning a full title; the two studios later tweeted about their work together.

Overwatch’s Summer Games is live, now with Ice Cream Orisa

Overwatch’s annual Summer Games event is here, bringing back Lucioball and introducing a batch of summer-themed skins — including a spectacular ice cream-themed look for Orisa, which can be earned by winning games.

Summer Games 2020 will run from Aug. 4 to Aug. 26 in Overwatch. The Lucioball game mode is back, with a few changes. Lucio’s cooldowns are shorter, his boop and punch range are increased, he moves a little faster, and jump pads launch players higher. In short, it’s a faster, more intense game of Lucioball this year.

Will Fall Guys come to Nintendo Switch and Xbox?

Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout is available now on PlayStation 4 — where it’s free as part of a PlayStation Plus subscription — and Windows PC via Steam. Thanks to Fall Guys’ popularity on Twitch and its availability as a PS Plus freebie, developer Mediatonic’s battle royale-style party game is becoming one of the biggest games of the summer.

But many players have wondered whether Fall Guys will come to Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, or other platforms, like PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X.

Fall Guys is too popular, and its servers are struggling

Friendship ended with Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout is my new best friend — and, apparently, a lot of other people’s, too. The wacky party multiplayer game launched on PlayStation 4 and Windows PC via Steam on Aug. 4, and players have been overloading the servers.

More than 120,000 players connected to the game when it launched Tuesday morning, the developer said on Twitter. It caused some connection issues that pulled servers offline for a while while servers were beefed up. Servers are back online as of 11:42 a.m. EDT, but Mediatonic had to disable account creation for PlayStation 4 users to cope with the influx of players. At 12:40 p.m. EDT, the Fall Guys Twitter account posted that the team is “still hard at work on improving things,” with servers slowly coming back online.

Frog Fractions 3 discovered inside tiny, adorable hat

On Monday, we reported that Frog Fractions — the bizarre game that masquerades as an old-school educational game — was available for the first time on Steam. Titled Frog Fractions: Game of the Decade Edition, you can still get it for free and play it in 4K resolution. But, if you pick up the optional downloadable content, you’ll also get the next game in the series.

That’s right: Frog Fractions on Steam is a Trojan horse, serving as the vehicle for Frog Fractions 3 to assault your PC. Or it might actually be Frog Fractions 4. Not even the developer is sure at this point.

Call of Duty Warzone will live on in future sequels, Infinity Ward says

Call of Duty Warzone, which embarks upon its fifth season at 11 p.m. PT tonight, will continue beyond 2020 and will “become tied to other games in the Call of Duty universe,” according to Infinity Ward’s design director.

In an interview with GamesRadar, Geoff Smith reiterated that Warzone “was designed from the beginning as its own game.” Call of Duty’s core multiplayer community has often shifted from game to game as newer entries are released. It seems the plan for Warzone is that it will continue to exist alongside these newer entries, maintaining its own community over the years, while also incorporating new elements and characters from those newer games.

Valorant’s Act 2 patch adds Killjoy and her many robots

Valorant’s Act 2 patch has finally arrived and while we already knew some of the highlights, there are a couple smaller changes worth looking at in this patch as well.

The standout in this patch for most players will be the addition of Killjoy, Valorant’s newest Agent. She joins the game with her small army of robots, including a turret that can help watch her back, a robot built to detect enemies, and a grenade full of nanobots ready to do damage for her. The patch’s other big change is the addition of Deathmatch mode, which should make for a great warm up once it’s out on Aug. 5.

Call of Duty: Warzone season 5 blows open the stadium, adds a train

On Monday, Infinity Ward and Activision revealed the new trailer for Call of Duty: Warzone and Modern Warfare season 5, which reveals some major changes coming to the Verdansk map.

In Warzone, players can adventure through the newly opened stadium — the roof of which gets blown off in the season 5 trailer. The new season also brings a train to Verdansk, which players can seemingly loot, land on, and get crushed by. These two additions are some of the most significant changes to Verdansk since Warzone’s arrival earlier this year.
