NHL 21 coming in October with long-awaited Be a Pro overhaul

NHL 21, the 30th entry in EA Sports’ annual hockey franchise, will be released Oct. 16 on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, publisher Electronic Arts announced Monday.

Alexander Ovechkin, the surefire future Hall-of-Famer from the Washington Capitals, will be the game’s cover athlete. It is Ovi’s second time gracing the cover of an EA Sports NHL title; he previously appeared on the box for 2006’s NHL 07, ahead of his second year in the league. Ovechkin, who will turn 35 next month and sports salt-and-pepper hair these days, is perhaps the greatest pure scorer in NHL history. He has racked up 706 goals over 16 seasons, and — as a tremendously durable player, having never missed more than 10 games in a season — he has a real chance to eclipse Wayne Gretzky’s all-time record of 894 career goals (a mark Gretzky set over the course of 20 seasons).

First look at the Monster Hunter: World board game coming to Kickstarter

Monster Hunter: World is being turned into a board game by the experienced team at Steamforged Games. The cooperative multiplayer title will feature enormous new plastic models and will be priced in the $100 range. Fans should expect a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter for Monster Hunter: World — The Board Game to launch some time in 2021.

Steamforged Games, a British tabletop developer and publisher, has made a name for itself with a string of board games based on high-profile video game franchises. Steamforged burst onto the scene in 2016, raising more than $5.4 million for Dark Souls: The Board Game. Then it followed that up with Resident Evil 2: The Board Game, Horizon: Zero Dawn — The Board Game and, most recently, Devil May Cry: The Bloody Palace.

Dungeons & Dragons’ next book will offer an alternative way to handle race

Dungeons & Dragons is getting a new book of rules, subclasses, and mechanics this fall, Wizards of the Coast announced on Monday. The book, titled Tasha’s Cauldron of Everything, follows in the tradition of 2017’s Xanathar’s Guide to Everything, adding fresh gameplay options to the existing setting rather than a new setting.

Also like Xanthar’s Guide, Tasha’s Cauldron presents its content with commentary, observations, and snark of a narrator character. This time, instead of a floating crime boss with multiple eyestalks, it’s the creator of Tasha’s Hideous Laughter who serves as the guide.

Finally, Fall Guys players on PS4 can invert their cameras

Another patch is coming for Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout, developer Mediatonic announced on Sunday. It’s expected to drop “in the next week,” according to a tweet on the official Fall Guys Twitter account.

The proposed patch notes list has a bunch of changes, many of which have been heavily requested by Fall Guys players. One of the more exciting changes — for PlayStation 4 players — is controller options: Players will be able to invert the X/Y axis and controller sensitivity, both of which were not originally available. The other small, but hugely requested feature was regarding the Spectator mode; players were sick of scrolling through dozens of players to watch their pals. Once the update hits, party members will be sorted first while spectating.

Everyone’s already figured out the Riddler’s riddle in The Batman trailer

Two Bat-fans, one of them a bonafide puzzle-master, plowed through The Riddler’s cryptogram hours after it was first shown in The Batman’s trailer premiere on Saturday. Spoiler alert: The Riddler has weak riddle game — unless … we were meant to solve it quickly. In which case MAYBE THE RIDDLE’S ON US. Or something.

Anyway, in The Batman, Riddler (Paul Dano) is made out to be some kind of Zodiac-style menace packing his own alphabet. He leaves a greeting card on a murder victim, whose question is “What does a liar do when he’s dead?,” and the answer is a set of 11 symbols.
