Super Mario Galaxy on Switch won’t require motion controls

Nintendo announced the Super Mario 3D All-Stars collection on Thursday, confirming long-standing rumors that Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine, and Super Mario Galaxy will be re-released on Nintendo Switch. The third game on that list, released for the motion-control-powered Wii in 2007, will utilize motion controls for some aspects of the game. But it doesn’t sound like Joy-Con motion control will be required to play Super Mario Galaxy on Switch.

That’s not immediately clear, though, based on the Super Mario 3D All-Stars page on Nintendo.com, which notes that players can “Gently shake a Joy-Con controller to activate Mario’s Spin ability or pass a Joy-Con controller to a friend for some extra help in Co-Star Mode.” An asterisk for that sentence specifies further: “If playing on Nintendo Switch Lite, detached Joy-Con controllers are required and sold separately.”

The new World of Warcraft short shows Thrall’s dead mom at her new job

The second World of Warcraft: Afterlives short released on Thursday, part of a flight of animated segments designed to tease the upcoming expansion World of Warcraft: Shadowlands. The series premiered on Aug. 27 with Bastion.

This short is all about Maldraxxus, a military ward of the larger Shadowlands plane. Souls that pass on can be assigned there as part of its fighting force, where they must be dedicated, prepared to serve, and trained to provide the undead military with its strength. In the cinematic, we hear that if Maldraxxus falls, the rest of the Shadowlands goes with it — and that’s presumably really bad, especially since the maximum-security version of Hell known as the Maw is led by the evil Jailer, who is conspiring to take over the Shadowlands.

The Batman pauses filming after Robert Pattinson tests positive for COVID-19

Production on Matt Reeves’ The Batman is “temporarily paused” after Batman actor Robert Pattinson tested positive for COVID-19, according to a report from Vanity Fair. Warner Bros. Pictures had only just restarted production on the film after shutting down when the COVID-19 lockdown began.

Warner Bros. confirmed to Vanity Fair that The Batman’s production is on hold, but did not name Pattinson. “A member of The Batman production has tested positive for Covid-19, and is isolating in accordance with established protocols,” a spokesperson said in the statement and confirmed that filming is “temporarily paused.”

Riot has disabled Omen in Valorant thanks to a teleportation bug

Omen Valorant’s shadowy, hooded, teleporting Agent — has been disabled by Riot. Riot’s decision comes after players discovered a bug with the character in the game’s latest patch, and the problem proved too big for Riot to fix with just a small tweak.

This new bug first cropped up shortly after Valorant’s latest patch on Tuesday. Players noticed that Omen could now teleport outside of the barriers that are up at the beginning of rounds on the map Bind. This meant he could get into neutral areas far faster than the enemy team should expect him, letting him pick up cheap kills thanks to an exploit that was never supposed to be possible.

Warcraft’s cast gets re-introduced through Hearthstone’s Book of Heroes

The Warcraft lore is long and complicated, spread across three real-time strategy games, multiple novels and comics, and nine installments of the massively multiplayer game. Now, players are going to get a chance to catch up on some of the most important cast members through Hearthstone — the digital collectible card game.

The free Book of Heroes campaign comes with origin stories for each hero class, who happen to be part of the World of Warcraft MMO’s main cast of heroes and villains. The first one will cover Jaina Proudmoore, and will launch during the second week of the Forbidden Library event, which begins on Sept. 8.

Destiny 2: Beyond Light’s new Titan subclass revealed

On Tuesday, Bungie issued a news release to preview the three new Stasis classes coming to Destiny 2 in Beyond Light — one each for the Hunter, Titan, and the Warlock. The series of blog posts started with new details on the Warlock Shadebinder, but Bungie just previewed the best-named new subclass of the three: the Titan’s Behemoth.

Both news releases also give us a better look at how the new subclass tree works, as Stasis uses its own unique form of customization.
